Is F1 a disaester now

Honestly I find these last few years F1 has turned into a complete disaester. Obviously the blow of the retirement of the sports all time greatest driver Michael Schumacher was inevitable at some point and the sport had to move on from that. However it seems to have collapsed in a number of unforseen ways since. Michael's apparent heir apparent a few years ago, Fernando Alonso, after winning 2 World titles at a young age, has turned into a sulkish self righteous crybaby who no longer even wins that often (atleast not the last couple years), and has made it clear he is not a team player or someone who feels compeled to any loyalties other than himself and his exact convenience at all times. Lewis Hamilton the latest next big thing after nearly winning the World title in his first year out, and doing it on his second, comes across as aloof, a bit arrogant, and still all around quiet dull at the same time. His reputation has also been tainted by various scandals involving his team of McLaren. Kimi Raikonnen a long time star in waiting of the sport, after a long awaited but slightly flukish in nature World title, has regressed and is now often being outclassed by his lightly regarded teammate at Ferrari. None of Hamilton, Raikkonen, or Alonso are personalities to sell the sport either. None of them are particularly charismatic or interesting, none of them are controversial in an engaging way (though Alonso and Hamilton imparticular can be in less appealing ways). Oh yeah I have even forgotten Jenson Button, the lamest excuse of a World Champion driver in the sports history should he (as I expect he will) stumble his way to hold on for the title, and one of the most boring as well. Worse than all this are the various scandals and reveltations of many of the top cars of late. The race fixing scandal of Renault which was leaked by a jaded ex driver. The various McLaren spygate scandals which also involved Ferrari. The last few World drivers Championships were a mess in nature in many respects. Hamilton and Alonso feuding and choking away the title to a not all that impressive Raikkonen. Massa choking in a series of silly crashes, before Hamilton almost choked away the title at the end again anyway. Button crawling to win this years World drivers title with something like 1 top 4 finish in his last 8 races. F1 has never been so pathetic and I used to be a big fan.

I will agree with most of that, however, the biggest thing that F'd everything up was the new regulations on the cars. Thats when F1 started going downhill and it hasn't looked back since.

Main 2 problems with F1 at the moment:

1. Scandals, poor image, cheating, etc.

2. Insistence on new street circuits that are dull to watch and have zero overtaking.

I'm still loving this season though. It's just F1 doesn't do itself any favours sometimes.

i think that it is uncomparable to the 2004 and 2006 seasons and more, but i dont think schumacher leave has been that much of an impact, to make the sport trash, and i think that all its drivers are top notch, and raikoknen and alonso will surely be remembered, hamilton though is not that much of a good image everyone hates him, the regulations have hurt the sport, and since 2007 which was by the way a compeling good year the sport has gone down, jenson button though is a good driver but i do agree that the 2009 season has been a mess raikkonen has been going down but if he moves to mclaren mercedes hell go up alonso has gone down because of the sht car and this sudden surgence of brawn gp has made the sport less competitive, personally i cant wait for the 2010 season, mosley is out regulation might change it might be hamilton vs raikkonen in mclaren vs alonso and massa in ferrari and button and barrichello and vettel maybe still putting a charge, i think 2008 and 2009 seasons will be lost in time, for their shtness, especially 2009 well its still very good but kind of bad compared to previous seasons, f1 has now where to go but up.

F1 is truly a disaster right now. I've stopped watching. The lack of talent is disturbing outside of Alonso and Button. Call me when Robert Kubica and that Italian kid Rossi who is on the MotoGP circuit sign for Ferrari and Ferrari builds a competitive car, then I'll start watching again. Kubica is quality, but outside of him there aren't many drivers I can stand. Hamilton is a twat and I think Massa is vastly overrated (Ferrari put all their work into his car and he still can't get anything done!). Outside of McLearen, Ferrari and Williams (to an extent) that there's not really anyone to support because all the other teams can't build a decent car for the life of them.

And that's without mentioning all the restrictions Mosley put on the cars, and how Briatore has absolutely wrecked the remaining bit of credibility the sport had left.

Maybe I'll watch next season to see how Alonso does for Ferrari. God hope they build him a good car to pilot.

F1 has been better the last 2 seasons than for years!

The only people to disagree are Ferrari fans:)

The rules news have certainly altered the previous status quo. I don't think anyone at the start of the season would have predicted that a new, upstart team like Brawn or that Red Bull Renault, who previously was not more than an also-ran, would leading Ferrari in the Contructor's Standings. While I agree that no one has stepped up to fill Michael Schumacher's shoes I certainly do not think F1 in it's current state is a 'disaster' by any means.

It's only a disaster if you are a Ferrari fan:)

(I used to be a Ferrari fan, like Bernie, but it was getting a bit boring when they won every year)

no wait your saying that ur all expecting another schumacher somone to win 8 world titles and stuff, people if it took 50 years to catch fangio why would it take this little for schumacher, fill in schumachers shoes? that of being a dominant guy who obliterated everyone and make everyone look like trash, no i like this a little better where hamilton raikonen alonso massa and vettel fight for championship dont want to see anyone endlessly win

I miss the days of Hill and Hakkinen.

It's good to have Brits doing well again in the sport though. Adrian Newey's finally got a decent car going with Red Bull as well, the man is pretty much responsible for the success of Williams and McLaren in the '90s.
