Mary C says Adreev's Frame is "light"

during the vs. Joke-avic match, the knowlegeable Mary says that
Andreev's forehand is great because he waits until the last minute
to disguise the direction. This is true. But she goes on to say that
this is possible because of the light weight frame (which looks like
a PD to my untrained eyes) he uses.

PD, in stock form, yes, it is light - but does anyone know of the
actual Andreev spec?

He brought in four or five sticks at last years Australian Open to have matched. If I remember this correctly, the frames were pretty much right off the shelf, requiring just minimal weight. Not sure if he's changed specs since, but his swingweight was nearly that of a stock PD.

No SW2 there. I am amazed people think you cannot hit a big ball with a stock or nearly so Pure Drive.

Actually, I have his specs at 13.08" balance (5.5 points HL - it's 27.5" length) and 11.93 oz. This is converted to strung specs from Jura's 2005 French Open specs.

This means that he has plenty of lead on the hoop.

I saw a picture in tennis magazine from 2 years ago, where he clearly had lead tape on the lower half of the hoop, from 2 to 5 and from 10 to 7. This is an atypical place to put lead. In order to get a 13.08" balance at 11.93 oz., (assuming he starts with a stock PD+, he would probably need additional lead under bumper). Taking these lead placements into account, I estimate his swingweight to be in the low 360s. My guess is that his specs haven't changed much in the past two years, but he's now using silicone instead of exposed lead tape like he was 2 years ago.

11.93 oz. is still very light by pro standards. But (perhaps not coincidentally) his specs are almost identical to Nadal's.

Edit: I looked for old pics, but I couldn't find any with the lead placement described above. I did find a couple with 4 inches at 6 o'clock. My guess is that the Tennis Mag pic was with a practice frame with his normal specs, while his tournament frames in general have the weight concealed.

I'm not sure I agree with your estimated swingweight. Back then his swingweight was under 310 unstrung.

It's not physically possible for his swingweight to be under 310 unstrung if the specs posted by Jura are correct.

Well,as great as Jura is and as helpful as he is.Apparently his specs can be off by close to 10g (was off on 9g on a stick where the guy who sets them up for the player confirmed.) Bear in mind jura RELAY's alot of his specs and hasn't measured them himself

i hope your joking, atleast 40pts difference in SW and your saying that's just a change in surface tweat . that's comedy genius.!

Frankly (sorry trav.) I believe the guy who's had em with 4 feet of him and who's MATCHED sticks for the guy.

Why doesn't he or any other pros just use the Andy Roddick-one… and save themselves putting 1 oz. of lead tape on every racket?

I don't think the massive discrepancies in swingweight are all that odd.

Andreev has been known to tweak his setup quite severely and go anywhere from a pretty much stock weight and swingweight to much heavier, for certain tournaments in the past he has used large amounts of lead inside the frame across 12 oclock but it has been sporadic and was never made a permanent change to his racket, I suppose he is still looking for his best setup.

I'm not sure it is meant to be harmful to your health. Actually lead is dense enough to contain radiations.

If one can refrain from eating it, I think lead is ok.
