Amateur USTA 5.0 male VS WTA 300

OK, here is the match video. The 5.0 guy has no chance. He is more of a double's player instead of singles. Not a typical 5.0 guy that has college or high school varsity tennis backgroud.

Added another video that the female pro playing against a bunch of other 3.5~5.0 tennis players.

I started a poll at Pro session about an incoming match bettween 5.0 male and WTA 300 pro. What do you think the best stategies/tips for the guy to get more games?

Depends on his game. maybe try to slice if he has aa good slice, they don't slice much in women tennis. And go to the net after good slices. Other than that run on every ball and make her run.

I don't think it will be enough but it should be fun :D

His only chance is a lot of net play and a ton of spin. Women generally hit a very flat ball compared to high level male players. But basically I don't think he has a chance 5.0 man vs. 7.0 woman.. That's too big of gap - kinda like a 3.0 man vs. a 5.0 woman.

Yes. I think he will try S&V really hard...

How good is the 5.0 man? I've seen 5.0 men with UTRs anywhere from 8 to 12. If he's closer to 8, she's probably gonna bagel him. If he's closer to 12 (ringers gonna ringer), she should still win, but it could be fairly close.

We started a singles league out here. Began with 20 players 4.0-5.0 the first time around. We begin our next league in a week, expanded to 24 players. This time around we lost some 4.0 and gained some 4.5 and 5.0 players. We also added a women. One year out of college, played 2nd singles and was all-conference. She is going to feast on the guys in the league. Going to be an awesome experience :)

The majority of boys high school varsity tennis players are 4.0-4.5. Only the ones in the top ~100-400 in the state might be 5.0s. Blue chip and 5 star recruits are >5.0. The BC and 5 star recruits are generally 5.5 and higher.

Alexa didn’t even put it into 2nd gear. She just left the gearbox in low crawler gear. Lol.

I'm not even sure she took it out of neutral to be honest. That was no contest.

Thank for posting the video. That guy didn’t really look like a 5.0 player. It did look that if they had kept playing it would have taken him until August to win a game.
That’s what it looks like when a real WTA touring pro plays a 5.0 rec player. Pros are so good, they can make very good rec players look like flailing idiots and Eric is most certainly a very good rec player but the gap between pros and recs is HUGE.

Another analogy: she looked like a cat playing with a mouse. Mouse had zero chance.

Edit. Oops on the posting error.

Playing against pro or good D1 for an amateur is A good eye-opening experience. As a 4.0+, I have recently got a D1 hitting partner and I was happy to just A points Below is a video have I got crushed.

Her utr is about 11.5. So, a high-level 5.5 can hang with her and maybe beat her as his utr would be about the same. But, top 5.0s top out at about 10.5 and this guy doesn’t look like a top 5.0. I would guess that his utr would probably be closer to 9 and so, it is not surprising that it was so one-sided.

I understand. Just from watching the video it looked like he missed some shots a 5.0 would make.

Looks like his UTR is 7 based on his name
and location. But the guy in the video doesn’t look like a UTR 9.

Well, pros can make weak 5.0s look completely silly. And Alexa wasn’t even trying hard. She pretty much started slicing all her return of serves after the score was 3-0.

Yes, his UTR is only 7 and not reflect his level correctly. He is USTA 5.0C for many years now.

This D1 wouldn’t be able to beat Alexa either.

If his UTR is 7, it matches what we saw in the video in terms of his level. Then, he is a 4.5 currently and not a 5.0. I was being generous about thinking he might be around UTR 9 on the assumption that he has a 5.0 computer rating.

If he is a S/Vr as seemed evident in his first service game, it is possible that his USTA rating is based mostly on doubles matches and he is a weaker singles player. I can’t imagine him ever having a 5.0 computer rating based on singles results, but it might be possible based on doubles when he was in his prime.

I agree with you. I believe OP said Eric is mostly a doubles player. All of his recent match results on UTR were dubs matches.

IMHO the male player is much more representative of 4.5 level, not 5.0 - at least in my area. Regardless, he was completely outmatched.

A good message to guys who claimed here that a high level male rec player has a chance against WTA players.
Now imagine a top 20 WTA player against a male rec player at 5.0-5.5 level.

100%. 3 times I’ve been on court with current or former WTA players. I’m no slouch, but all of those experiences were very humbling, if not outright humiliating (for me). :)

The gap between rec players and pro players is massive. The only people who can win against the wta pros are the top d1 players and higher (ITF, ATP guys), but they are basically challenger level players fwiw. Guys like axel geller, daniel cuckierman, brandon holt etc. My money will always be on the pros in WTA vs rec males.

I think UTR is full of crap.

When I was an ITN 3 I had the good fortune to hit casually with a couple of top 200 WTA players. Even accounting for the fact they were trying not to humiliate me, they were miles better than any male rec player I ever faced. Like, night and day, no comparison. And I got my ass kicked by a lot of very good rec players.

What does a WTA woman mean ? Someone who has 1 WTA point ? Then yes, 5.5s and strong 5.0s probably have their chances. top 300 is an entirely different beast lol. I expected a bagel too or 1 or 2 games max.
