Yonex Buttcaps: Who prefers them?

Hey guys. It's one thing to not have much of a preference or be ok with whatever but is there anyone that actually likes the Yonex buttcaps?

They are notably different. They somewhat have the shape of the prostaff but with less flare making for a smaller end than every other brand.

Personally, I'll probably always switch out my yonex buttcap with a Wilson (non prostaff: aka blade style) buttcap.

It's a very easy swap. A bit of flexible but strong glue and staples but you could get away with just one or the other. The fit really is just right.

A lot of people hate these Yonex caps but I want to know if anyone prefers them and why?

I hate them, but I appreciate their ability to be easily built up to fit properly. I find other brands offer too much flare and I could never find a way to make them comfortable. With yonex, I just wrap on old overgrip around the buttcap twice then cut it and tape it, then wrap a new overgrip normally overtop and it's perfect. Otherwise they give me a terrible blister...

That makes sense.

I love Yonex frames, but HATE the buttcap or lack thereof.
Grip feel is so important for me that I just can't make myself go the Yonex route.
I use the Tourna Power Cap on my other frames, but on the Yonex frames, it just doesn't feel right.
I've tried other ways to build up Yonex buttcaps, but nothing "feels" right to me.

Any suggestions appreciated. :giggle:

I like them as they are. On serve, I hold the racquet basically by the buttcap. This allows me to swing freely. Bulky buttcaps do not allow this.
Also, it is very trivial to build them up. So, if given a choice, I would always go for a Yonex buttcap rather than anything else.
Nice. I build up an area between the beginning and end of the buttcap too change the shape of the flair in such a way it fits into my palm and I think I grab the racket the same way you describe.

Doing this on the Yonex caps really sucks for me. I had to file things down a lot and still wasn't happy.

I really like the blade style cap on the Yonex handle. Other than that, I don't know what else to suggest because that's fixed all my issues with the yonex cap specifically.

I should measure to see if my racket length is longer now... Didn't consider this but it's possible it sticks out further than the Yonex cap did.

It's the same...

I've really not noticed much difference in buttcap between my Yonex and my Wilson? The Yonex would only need very slight building-up, maybe one or two extra wraps of over-grip more than normal when starting?

I mean it's a different shape and size and flare but it's also just a butt cap. Some will really notice and others not as much. Sometimes it's because of how you hold the racket but other times it's just because the person isn't that observant.

I'm very obsessive but also hold it in such a way that my hands really hate the buttcap. So I'm strongly not a fan and a simple build up isn't going to do the trick for me at all.

I just had to switch them. I couldn't work with it and that's not for lack of trying.

Head buttcaps are my favorite as those has quite a bit of flair.
I used to think I can live with the Yonex buttcaps (although it feels a bit strange), until I lost grip on a serve and crack a fairly new 95D.
Arrrrr! from then on, I just hate them.

I prefer Wilson or Pacific. You can really see the difference in flare in these photos:

I think the blade style, which is on the burn and others (I think all but the prostaff) the best.

After that, maybe head. I was happy with it and no modifications or funny buildups.

Hate prostaff. Hate yonex. Don't care for babolat but I can maybe make it work. Not sure.

Wow I never considered pacific. Not a brand that comes to mind but I wonder if you can just get their butt caps very easily?

Curious to try. Anyone have much to say about the difference in how this vs the blade caps feel?

I have a 'butt load' of them lying around, and it just so happened that the Yonex trap door fit into it nicely. What size are you looking for?

Nice! The Yonex fit into the wilson fine but is recessed a little deeply but works fine. I use the royalrackets custom trap doors.

I'm 4 1/4

Butt is fine, but I do use my overgrip to increase flare. Fold the end part of the overgrip in half and start gripping at butt cap with the opening pointing to the racket. Then a full layer of over grip on top of that and then grip the rest.

It’s not just the butt cap that is different. The grip size is also a bit bigger which is even more annoying. L3 feels too big and L2 too small.

That works but for me it's not hard enough. It's still a malleable and structurally unreliable alternative but if it works for you, that's totally valid. I just want it to be exactly the same shape and I like the more clean look but it just feels exactly how I want so it's perfect for me.

Might get me a pure drive plus but I need to know if I can replace that buttcap with a Wilson one. Anyone know? I'll find out soon myself if I don't get a confirm here, I suppose.

I'd take Yonex butt caps from those of you who would just toss them anyways since some of you prefer other ones.... lol. I'm currently playing with Wilson, Prince, and Yonex (like a true racquetaholic)

Jay Sean, I have some very nice Pure Drive Pluses for sale. Message me.

I believe that Yonex, Wilson, Babolat, Dunlop are all standard shape...I'm not sure about all the brands though I know that Head is similar to Tecnifibre and Prince is on the opposite spectrum.

I feel you on that. My solution is to replace the base grip with something bigger and then with overgrip it gets back to a normalish L3 or close enough for me.

I believe this has been addressed in other threads, and it's not that the grip is larger, it's that the pallet (for a lack of a better term) is thicker. Yonex base grips are thin (~ 1.3-1.4mm as compared to 1.8-1.9mm)), so the 'lack of compression' makes it feel larger.

Exactly what I do: Buy 4 3/8 and replace with the Tecnifibre Wax Max (aka X-tra Full), which is 2.1mm. Using a 4 1/2 Pacific butt cap gets me right where I want to be:

Only interested in plus rackets. Is it plus and 4 1/4?

They are Plus and 4 3/8. I find Babolat grips run a bit small.
I already bought one but I need smaller grips to do my mods and the newer babs seem a little bigger than they used to.

What year is this frame? The 2015 looked great but I don't like how it felt, unfortunately. Really wanted to. Not sure I'll like the new pure drive plus but not many to try in the plus world.
