Babolat RPM Soft

There is another thread on this topic but I have been using it off and on for the last 3 weeks, it feels and plays like Origin and that's been a fairly common observation among the players who are testing it.

Didnt like it... Felt like syn gut while stringing and hitting. Not sure if it can be considered a poly but for a syn gut felt pretty nice though not as durable as Prince Syn gut. Strung it full bed at 53lbs on Pro Staff V13 and also Alu/Rpm hybrid at 50/53lbs.

courts were wet so i hit against the wall. Definitely felt the poly in it. felt the firmness. not a ton of bite. nice, crisp, solid feel. strung at 60lbs in a gravity mp. Going to give it another go tomorrow.

Yep, as they say, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

I already know this. I'm pretty sure I was the person who said it originally.
I have been told otherwise by B that it isn't so will try it either way,

That's what I was told as well. Seems like it is unclear if it "replaces Origin" or "IS rebranded Origin". I agree it seems like it is meant to take Origin's spot in the lineup but the brief time I sampled it, it looked and played like something more Zyex based and even bears some color similarity to the "natural color" of Zyex Monogut from Ashaway.

I can't see how it would be re-branded Origin if the following is to be believed:
You are correct. My mistake. felt much firmer than a normal multi. needed to string it lower. usually don't mind tighter tensions.

Origin was a very powerful polyamide string. I used it a lot with Velocity crosses and I had to string the Origin in the high 50's much like I'd string gut.

Have it strung in my 360 speed pro as Mains at 55# and Bablat Syn Gut as crosses. So far so good, honeymoon stage. Nice plush setup. Nice pop and also control. I wonder how long do I have before everything turns into a pumpkin.

-ive tested side/side b.origin and b.rpm.SOFT
-if these two are not the same string (rebranded), then most people will not be able to tell the difference
-plays the same, feels the same, strings the same, sounds the same
-all indications to me are clear, ITS THE SAME!!
-better color on the new ones, maybe yes
-better newer material feel, yes
-its still feels like a premium synthetic gut string 2me

Curious to see if people are still using this string after their initial impressions - how is the durability as a cross string with polyester mains? Does it notch as a cross string, esp. if shaped poly is in the mains? Would this be a good alternative to a multifilament cross with polyester mains?

Okay, so I tried out the 16 gauge RPM soft as crosses with T1 Black Knight 17 mains at 50/53lbs. I can see some small powdery residue against the black main strings in some areas which is interesting, possibly the coating. Performance wise, it is excellent if you really like the crispness/pop from hitting the ball and there is good enough power coming from it without the ball launching. Great hybrid for anyone who likes polyester for its performance but prefer to get that extra zip on the ball, or if you want to enhance the feel of a muted main string. Notching was not as bad as I anticipated and the crosses broke in about 7 hours which is probably about how long I would want to go with full bed of poly before cutting it out anyway. Could probably push a bit more durability with a slicker round poly in the mains. It's softer than a typical synthetic gut so maybe in the future if I felt the extra cost was worth it for the slight upgrade in comfort I may go back to it, but in my opinion, just your preferred good old brand of synthetic gut will probably do just fine for the kind of performance and playability you get with RPM soft as a cross string.
