I would highly recommend against stiff poly for really anyone who isn't chasing ATP points, but if you're gonna do it, the gold standard is.... Luxilon Alu power. Might want to give Yonex Poly Tour Pro a shot.
Other round control poly:
Luxilon Big Banger Original
Kirschbaum Max Power
Tecnifibre Pro Red Code
Prince Tour XC
String it as low as you can go, maybe 40-45 lbs, and restring often.
Thanks! Excuse my ignorance but is Alu Power considered stiff? I think it felt fairly lively.
Mayami Tour Hex
I've been playing with the Extreme Tour with Solinco HyperG at 48lbs (16L gauge). It took about 1 hour to bed nicely. IMHO, plays similar to my Head Speed Pro (Graphene 2018 version) as it is similar in specs. The Extreme has more spin and tiny bit more pop, but you can flatten your strokes with it. I do find that I get better pace and depth on off-center shots, too. Mine is in stock form with a dampener.
-when i had extremes.PROs (neon yellow ones), i remember not liking too stiff a poly,
-fb poly did not work for me
-this racquet was abit finiqui about tension and strings, 2ME
-i went with a hybrid, poly/syn.gut combo
-that gave me control and comfort
-the tension was also tricky with this frame, but i went with 55lbs.mains/56lbs.crosses
-the h.lynx would be a good string choice at the right tension
-.h.lynx.tour would also be good, but again i think its all player preference at the end
I playtested with Alu Power 1.25 at 21kg, which was nice. Lacked at bit of control though. When I purchased the racquet it came pre strung with Head Lynx, I believe. Didn’t like it, too soft. Looking for a more controlled setup, preferably a round and “dead” poly. Any suggestions?
-i had to go back on my stringing records for thisThanks for the advice! What exactly did you use in the poly/syn gut combo if I may ask. Polys mains?
Can you compare black knight to alu power? It’s stiff and lively, luxilon magic !
If you want a jack of all trades string, Tier1 black knight is very good.
Also it’s very comfortable
