The bumper could indeed be removed, and individual grommets fitted in its place. On one of my Secret 04’s, I inadvertently removed the neomilitary rough matte grey finish, down to bare carbon finish. Not sure how many mg’s of weight that removed, but certainly it’s worth something, but short of that, what else could one remove?

Or snip off the guard bits of the bumper leaving the grommet bit intact?

Like a nuclear bomb going off in your hand. I think I said it before but it’s about as powerful as two pure drives glued together.

Basically a bazooka...somebody with no fragile parts in the arm or shoulder could use it perhaps.

That is possible; but the frame material doesn't hold up to abrasion very well. IF you are very careful or playing on soft courts only, might not be a problem.

The 04 is an interesting frame to sample. I don’t often play mine, but I concluded that it plays best (in my humble opinion) with a string that’s as inherently “soft” and “dead” as possible. I arrived at Leoina 66 15-ga at 55 pounds tension.

Play on clay in the summer and indoors in the winter, no outdoor hard courts.

That’s not a massive amount to shave, as you know the Secret 04 is built like a tank. If you have one where the rubberised finish is starting to remove itself (i.e. one that is not in pristine condition), I think you could easily sand 10g off the whole racquet above the grip without detriment to the frames integrity. @teachingprotx has done some great work in this area, much of it documented on these boards, he seems to be a genuine lovely fellow so I’m sure he would happily consult on how far you could go.

Not sure I’m technically equipped for such an attempt. Maybe shaving down the grip a bit?
I should have saved pics of mine where I removed the old grey puffy paint with aircraft stripper. You have to be careful and have denatured alcohol on hand to remove the stripper as soon it starts working. Once done, you’ll see how well these frames were made by the straight directional weaves of the carbon fiber.
yamaha should have just clear coated the Finish. Weight savings, no idea. The RF97 plays very close, and it’s slightly lighter strung.
