Price match policy: Must racquet grip size match?

Hello. This morning I called TW to try to buy two nCode Tour 90s in 4 3/4 grip using a price match from another site that only had the 4 5/8 grip in stock. The CSR denied me the chance to make the purchase, stating that the grip sizes must match for a price match. I hate to challenge the CSR, but a couple times in the past I’ve spoken to TW CSRs who seemed to be mis-informed.

I apologize if the answer is on the site somewhere, but through my searching on the topic, I was only able to find this (old) post where someone asked if TW price matches:

Absolutely! There are a few caveats here... If matching shoes, it must be a match on the same size, color, etc. With racquets, it must be same head size. However, we'll meet or beat any authorized retailer in the US. Don/Tennis Warehouse

This would seem to indicate only head-size needs to match. This would make more sense to me because I’ve never seen racquet prices vary among grip sizes. So I have two questions. (1) Is there a price match policy on this site somewhere I can refer to for such information in the future? And specifically, (2) Does the exact grip size need to be in stock at the other retailer to get TW to match the price?

sounds like good'ol tw trying to get out of honoring a price match. hate to say it but retailers use any trick/technicality in the book to get out of doing this.

Please keep in mind that many retailers will discount a racquet/shoe because they only have limited sizing (and won't be getting in anymore stock of that item), most often times being "unpopular" sizing.

And no, we are not trying to get out of a price match.

TW's policy seems fair and justified. Think about it. No one or very few people buy 4 1/8 sized frames. That's why you often see them on sale. Racquets sized 4 1/4, 4 1/2, and especially 4 3/8 sell out the quickest.

at the end of the day it's TW's call as to whether they honor the price match or not. that said, you'd think TW would jump at the chance to gain goodwill with a customer, and potentially earn repeat business. but sometimes they just can't seem to see this aspect of price matching and are only thinking of the few $ they might lose on that one sale

$159 and even $144 is WAY too much to pay for that basically "clearance" model.

TW should have jumped at the chance to sell it to you! :shock:

But prices are set by supply and demand and how much the item cost the retailer to buy, not just by if it's discontinued or not.

For example, TW could easily sell brand new St. Vincent PS 6.0 85's for over $500 each although that racquet was last made 17 years ago. Why? Supply (very low) and demand (very high).

the only thing possibly special is the 3/4 gripsize which might make these N90s more desirable to those with that gripsize.

other than that, the auction site or local retailers will be discounting these much further.

Fair enough. I think the policy is justified given Spencer's argument. I am disappointed, though.

I guess TW gets to keep the $15 and I'll seek deals elsewhere without TW as my first choice.

I understand your feelings but I just want to say the while I have purchased my tennis equipment from several other places from time to time and never been disappointed, TW is by far the best place to purchase your equipment from.
Their customer service is top notch and selection is first rate plus you never have to worry about the quality of the item you purchased because it is first rate every time.
From time to time there are deals I can get elsewhere that TW just cannot match but I always weigh the tradeoffs before making the purchase because sometimes price isnt the deciding factor.

No doubt. I agree that TW has great service, and quality. Their site and this board are fantastic resources. That is the reason I would always hit up TW first when I need tennis gear. I think I've spent $600+ here in the past couple years alone. To have them fight over $15 when I just want to give them more business saddens me. Like I really shouldn't have that retailer preference.

But that does not mean I won't shop here again. I'll just consider my wallet a little more than my heart. TW is still the best online retailer I do business with.
