They are about a million miles away. All you see is >>>>>>>>>NOTHING!

This is true, but aces that bounce twice inside the service box don't count. What do you think that serve was clocked at?? 4? 5? mph??? I don't even think Flash would have returned that serve. We need to let oscar know drop shots don't count for aces. :)

hahhahahhahaha:):) oh god

But atleast he took plenty of upclose pics of his shoes, bag, racquets, hair product and his moisturizing cream

Oh yeah. Forgot about all of those. He took so many of those, my battery ran out when I was deleting them.

blackfrido looks suspiciously like Javier Sergio. Long lost twin?

Hi guys - just saw this thread - thought you may be able to help - I will be in Miami Beach from the 13th to the 16th. A couple of questions - are there any public courts in Miami Beach to play at? I was going to play with a friend who is coming down with me. Is there any public transportation from Miami Beach to Key Biscayne to play at the courts there?

That's right. You need to make sure Zap hasn't taken over. LOL

Off topic, but is it true that in Florida, the USTA rating is bit lower like USTA 5.0 guy in Florida would be rated USTA 4.5 or even 4.0 in Illinois or in Southern Cal. I met this guy from Boca Raton and he told me that he plays 4.5 or 5.0 leagues in florida and got to hit with him a bit and he would be rated a good 4.0 or low level 4.5 in Illinois or California.:???:

If anything, I would think it's the other way around

My limited experience of the Florida scene is that the 4.5's are a little weaker than the better 4.5's in the mid-atlantic.

But my experience is limited to one tournament where I played the 1, 2 and 5 ranked players in the Florida 4.5 2007 year end rankings.

Maybe league play is different.

Hey everyone long time! How is the SF chapter holding up?

I tried reaching you to meet up with us this weekend. Hope everything is well. We are going to set up another meet in the next few weeks.

It really depends who you talk to from around the country. Moz states the mid atlantic has stronger 4.5's than Florida. Sup states the opposite. As for this guy you hit with who is a 5.0... I could tell you there ain't many, if any 5.0 leagues around. So he could have been stretching the truth.

A quick look at the USTA rankings right now revealed the following:

In the 30’s age group:

Florida has 5 in the top 20, and 23 in the top 100.

California has 1 in the top 20, and 14 in the top 100.

Illinois has zero in the top 20 and zero in the top 100.

In the 35’s age group:

Florida has 3 in the top 20, and 12 in the top 100.

California has 4 in the top 20, and 15 in the top 100.

Illinois has zero in the top 20 and two in the top 100.

In the 40's age group:

Florida has 4 in the top 20, and 14 in the top 100.

California has 9 in the top 20, and 36 in the top 100.

Illinois has zero in the top 20 and zero in the top 100.

The weakest of the 3 is without doubt Illinois. Florida is better in the 30's and 35's age group. California has a strangle hold on the 40's age group.

Interesting stats Drak - they are perhaps distorted by the location of the cat 1 and 2 tournaments? Also by the fact that highly ranked players will often be located around other high ranking players. This is certainly less of a factor as 4.5's aren't good enough to consider changing location for tennis.

A comparison of league performance in sectionals and nationals may be more accurate - although that may just identify where all the cheats live!!!

I would be interested to hear Sup's reasoning behind that.

I think Moz brings up a good point...you guys have tournaments coming out of your ears down there. The last tournament I signed up for, in women's 30s, I was the only one who signed up! I checked that same month in Region 8 in Florida, and found multiple tournaments that I would have been eligble to play...er, get my butt kicked in.

Personally, I think that would be remedied in our section if the MAS stopped giving the tournaments to the same little club in the hood of Baltimore and moved some of them down to NOVA, but then again, I'm *really* biased!

The real question is...how are your 3.5s?!? :)

It isn't easy to get to...go under leagues and see if they have any links to nationals. Sectionals would take even longer to track down. I'll see if I can find the national stuff...brb!

My opinion is no matter what level of play, one should fear players from Florida or California in the draw. They had more months in the year playing and better players for practice partners.

Granted Mid-Atlantic doe have high quality middle tier players. If you stacked the average against Florida, Florida would win. They just have more resources. If I lived in Drak's community. I would be hitting with Carlos constantly, year long, and get better.

Just a matter of nature vs. nuture. Florida nutures better players, Mid-Atlantic just has better middle tier players by nature. We have to survive with little to no practice.

Look at the constant champions. Oren, Carlos, Andy.. etc. All from warmer climates.

*shakes fist*.

Sup - I agree intellectually with that, it just wasn't my experience.

Then again, I don't even know what the average NTRP tournament player would be like in the mid-atlantic because there are never enough entrants to the draws!

Moz, thanks for the link. Topaz, thanks for the explanation. It is so effen hard to navigate thru the USTA's website.

Sup, nice breakdown. One thing I want to point out is there are **A LOT** of players in Florida that don't even play leagues or tourneys anymore. They just hit with friends once a week, etc. I'm sure the same holds true everywhere else, however, I would estimate there are far more of these players in places like Cali, Florida, and Texas, than in other parts of the country.

In my lcub alone there are around a dozen of these players who were top juniors/college/satellite players.

BTW, sup, have you completed the specs on the MG Mid????
