Racquet Selection= Braincramp!

Hi guys,

I play with a Head microgel radical mp with about 15 or so grms of LT in the handle, and only 5 grms in the head. I feel like I cant swing my hardest with my racquet and feel like the ball will go in. Ive tried messin with the tension of string, gauge, you name it, but nothin.

Im probably going to demo a racquet or two over the weekend to try out. I play with heavy, HEAVY topspin off both sides, 2 handed bh. i am mostly a baseliner, but i come into net when I need to. I would rather go with pinpoint accuracy rather than exploding power. I use Kirschbaum P2 for the mains, and Kirschbaum Touch multifibre for the crosses.

I went onto TW and looked into a few racquets:
Tecnifibre T-fight 320 16x20, 18x20
Babolat AeroPro Drive w/ Cortex
Babolat AeroPro Control
Head MicroGel Extreme, Extreme Pro
Head MicroGel Prestige Midplus, Prestige Pro
Head MicroGel Radical Pro

Im somewhat brand loyal to head (as you probably guessed), but im open to any opinions. feel free to add a suggestion to a different racquet that isnt mentioned.

I highly appreciate you opinion and input

before you try getting a new racquet, why not string a poly tight.. say 68 lbs

I'm using the pure storm tour instead of my APDC for the reasons you mentioned above. It makes a big difference to have the control in a stick so that you can really swing away. I hit with the prestige pro last weekend and really liked it. Plus, you'd stay in the head family and not have to get used to another grip. Also try going with syn gut instead of the multi cross, you'd lose a bit of feel but maybe gain more control. I tried mulit crosses through out the spring and couldn't get them to work: too much pop for me.

Perhaps (very big perhaps), go with one of the prestige mids? They're generally pretty darn good for pinpoint accuracy.

i might try kirschbaum's syn gut, its $12, but hopefully it'll be worth the price.

question: does the extreme have more or less power than the radical mp or less, in terms of a full, clay court swing? cause ive heard it both.

Try using the K90. It does take some time getting used to, but theres nothing like it. But since your looking for some midplus frames, go for the fischer No.1 Rackets. Most unique feeling. You'll love it.

More. It packs a good deal more punch (at least, compared to both the LM Radical MP, and Flexpoint Radical Mp- and considering the microgel is very similar in terms of power with the flexpoint, the extreme packs more punch)

I would say the Extreme has more power than the radical but the control is pretty decent. Still, the Extreme is quite stiff.

Try the Prestige Pro-not the Mid. since you play with heavy top, the mid would not be a very good fit for you, but the open 16 X 19 pattern of the pro would be a good setup for your style. The open pattern would give you more options on string selection as well.

Plus the balance of the Pro with it's headlight setup would be similar to what you had with your Rad after you mod'ed it with the lead in the head and handle. All in all, I think you would like the Pro. I've never been able to get on with the mid either, but alot of people swear by it.

One last point, I had a Rad Pro on extended demo last summer and loved it. I'm not sure how different it will hit from your regular Rad's but it's a great stick and is a real weapon from the baseline.

If you want a racket in the same weight class as the Microgel Radical MP, you might want to try the Microgel Instinct. It has good topspin capability and is very comfortable.

I demoed the Microgel Radical MP. I thought it was a good racket, but it definitely performed better on flat shots with somewhat compact strokes than on topspin shots with long, loopy strokes.

You should try demoing the Babolat Aeropro Drive, it has awesome spin and power, but doesn't sacrifice control. Also, it is pretty light according to how much power it has and it's great for serving, volleying, and especially baselining.
