Does anybody know anything about LaserFibre stringing machines? How do you get them?

ha thats a good question. Basically if you call and order u'll get in touch with somebody named Tim. He's very knowledgeable and is pretty good at telling you what you want to hear. As far as im concerned the new quantum does not exist. If you want a laserfibre machine you need to be willing to wait awhile.

I can't believe someone would suggest to go with Alpha and avoid Laserfibre. He must work for Alpha. A friend of mine had an alpha and had a ton of problems with it and had a lot of trouble dealing with the company later on to get replacement parts. It now sits picking up dust in his garage.

Laserfibre has solid built machines and good backup support. Tim Sullivan is the type of person who will spend hours guiding you and helping you with your machine. I purchased an ML100 over 8 years ago and have been really happy with it. I've not talked to Tim in years though but I'd recommend him and Laserfibre machines to anyone.

(Note: please read my later post where I correct that it was an Eagnas and not Alpha machine. Sorry for the error.)

Topspin,
That's a warm recommendation, perhaps the great reputation that Tim had built over the years, with their strings but mostly with their LF super drop weights and a very original spring powered up-rights with a pedal, has been seriously questioned since he stopped selling those excellent Laserfibre machines last year. He has been promising an incredible new concept : the LF Quantum, it was supposed to been presented in the fall 2007, since then it's been postponed regularly, then finally the 1st machine arrived last week. :)

It's strange, I think a lot of us were tired of waiting to see if and when the new machine would be available and I for one have been very troubled by all of the stories being thrown around, it's not been not good for Tim, nor for anyone else who believes in the importance of keeping it straight between suppliers and their (potential) clients.

I've never heard of anything but good reports about ALPHA, Mark G. is one of the most respected gentlemen in the tennis trade, as was Tim S. until last year, so please don't defend LF by dirtying ALPHA, it's not the way to go. Today you may just encourage a whole heap of unhappy LF clients to tell you exactly what they are grieving about.

I think enough has been said already, LF has apparantly sent out their very first new Quantum and the proud owner is overjoyed with his purchase, so all's on track for a brighter future for LF. Let's just hope that Tim can get back some of his repuation, I'm sure he deserves it.

Very well put Tobago and with class.

agreed. unfortunate I didn't get the same experience. Maybe I just ordered a month to early. Hopefully Tim salvages everything. Looks like a good machine glad everything worked out for everybody. Maybe if I see things are going well when my Neos goes away i'll consider putting in another order.

Nothing wrong with the MS series.

I agree. I don't know what the price differences are between the Quantum and the different SW MS series models.

Technically both give you constant pull just the same. But the MS machines has a sensorial system for the tension jaw that locks the arm to prevent extra pumping action as an option. I don't know if the Quantum has something similar or not.

And I still believe that the internal 5 point mounting system of the MS machines is better than the external 6 point mounting system of the Quantum in terms of providing direct support to alleviate stress on the racket.

And finally, the MS machine has an option for a table break while the Quantum doesn't have a table break.

So I'm not sure where the Quantum is superior. Maybe a little cheaper, but not necessarily better than the MS series.

I have to agree with this, it's very logical and it leads me to ask how come there are almost no comments that the old Laserfibre machines are still available under the original brand name S t r i n g w a y (it's censored???) and these machines are being sold by ALPHA.:)

Why are some people out there saying how good the previous LF machines were, yet nobody says hey man, go ask Mark at Alpha if he's got the same sort of machines available. I see that Alpha has them but they don't do much to make it known.:-?

Also, if LF is pushing the new Quantum machine, why no photos on line, and the old machines are still shown on the LF site?

Beats me, I really don't get it, nothing makes sense . . .

Sorry mate, you are not reading all the posts on this subject, I wrote this a few days ago :

Laserfibre still has the same machines as SW on their site, It doesn't make sense. there's more to this than meets the eye, maybe LF got pissed off with him and pulled a few strings.

Don't worry, it looks like this post went unoticed, nobody gives a damn, it's almost as if all the BS about LF is normal.

In fact I couldn't care less what LF are doing, I'm a happy owner of a SW ML.100 and I just can't believe that since LF is not selling them anymore, it's seems that the SW machines have vanished from the market.

They sure as hell aren't openly talked about here on TTW.

Here's something I don't understand. On TW, you are allowed to talk about LF -they used to have machines same as SW. You are allowed to talk about Alpha -which now sells SW machines... So why is it that you are not allowed to talk about SW? :???:

Laserfibre and Alpha are brand names of products that TW sells (strings and grips) - so they allow you to use those names in your posts.

TW does not sell any SW products - so they do not allow people to directly post that name.

It seems things have changed a lot if SW machines are now sold by Alpha and Laserfibre has a new machine. I have some catching up to do.

BTW, I'm not bad-mouthing Alpha or anyone who works there. I am just posting an experience that a friend had with them with his particular model of machine. By now, I would expect that they're totally re-designed their line of machines.

Note: (please read my later post where I correct that it was an Eagnas and not Alpha machine. Sorry for the error.

That's fine with me, as much as I find it a shame, Laserfibre would appear to have more problems than they can handle, but even so I don't understand their silence when you see all the complaints that have been made here since early this year. I was pleased for them that the Quantum finally came good, but now it looks like it may not be true after all.

I don't really appreciate what JB has written, but he has put his finger on something and the answers to his questions are not evident, unless he's right.

I admired LF because of their previous machines, the smart-weight system, the inside 5 point mountings, the floaters, that's a "revolutionary machine" a home stringer can almost string like a "pro".

I am very surprised by the photos of the Quantum, it just looks like an Eagnas except that the tensioner has been replaced by a drop-weight which is inspired by their old system. Nothing very revolutionary here, so why is everything so exagerated? So what, they down grade the system to get a new machine at a more competitive price, lots of people are waiting to buy, but nothing really convincing can be seen. If the machine exists then it could well be a success, if it doesn't, why keep talking about it ?

Why go to all the touble of making up stories, or trying to get people to believe in something that is apparantly not there, I can't believe that Tim or anybody else would be desperate enough to do that, how can it lead to a better situation somewhere down the line ? It's all very strange. :???:

He told me a bunch of stuff that I would rather not post on a public forum. If you have a reasonable relationship with him, I am sure he would tell you his side of the story in an email.

We exchanged emails this past week - absolutely no problem contacting him. He has always been responsive and overly helpful to me anytime that I had any questions or needed some advice. I would have no qualms about doing business with him in the future.

Sorry, I made en error in a previous post. It was an Eagnas (not Alpha) machine that had a lot of problems for a friend of mine. Sorry to Alpha and all Alpha customers.

Thanks for this rectification, it was very surprising to see some bad feedback concerning Alpha.

I am in the UK and considering ordering a machine direct from SW in Holland (M90) In the light of this thread would you advise against this?

Go Back and Correct your previous Post

Sorry, I made en error in a previous post. It was an Eagnas (not Alpha) machine that had a lot of problems for a friend of mine. Sorry to Alpha and all Alpha customers.

Topspin - You are able to go back and EDIT previous posts. The right thing to do would be to go edit the previous post where you incorrectly bashed Alpha and Alpha's Customer support! Some people will not read through to where you corrected yourself, and your earlier comments are still there for others to read and be mislead.

You might want to leave what you had written since other comment on your comments, but just put in Italics that you were mistaken and the machine is actually an Eagnas.

Have you emaild them and aksed about it? What have they said?

only e-mailed them to enquire about prices, nothing specific. Seems funny they have no distributor in the UK now since Tennis-Tech no longer sells their machines. Probably just being paranoid but I don't want to buy a machine off them and then find they go bust.

Not a problem, I'll add something in the previous post. BTW I was not bashing. Bashing would be where I deliberately try to make a machine look bad. I was posting a friends' frustrating experience with his machine. The fact that it was Eagnas and not Alpha in no way means I'm bashing Eagnas. Personal experiences are what they are, no more no less.

Point Taken - Rather the using the word bashing, I should have said something along the lines of posting incorrect facts.

Thanks to making the changes. I no longer have an Alpha machine, but personally, I think Mark G is one of the most honest and upstanding individuals I have ever had the honor of working with during the year I had my Alpha REVO4K. I look forward to meeting him for the first time in about a month at the GSS Symposium.

I don't remember if I spoke to Mark G but I believe I did call him before making my purchase on the ML100 with Tim S. Anyhow all this happened years ago so that's why I got mixed up with Alpha and Eagnas. BTW my friends' Eagnas machine is just sitting in his garage picking up dust. I'm curious if anyone might want to buy it for parts. I'll have to check the model #. He really doesn't use it or even have time to use it (if it worked) so I'm stringing for him.

Yea, one word can cause a big misunderstanding. Thanks for taking the time to fix it.

No, since SW has nothing to do with LF any more, at least in Europe. I live in northern Europe and ordered my SW ML 100 from Holland, too. It was in July this year. Everything went fine, they kept me informed via e-mail during the ordering/shipping process. The shipping took about a week.
