Hi just wanted to post this article to get your views on, it says that Jankovic can finally win a slam to cap her achievements so far, and talks about how Bollettieri stated years ago that she is a girl who can dominate tennis. Is that true - who thinks she has a shot at the Aussie open and can she really be considered a top champion without a slam - read the article and let me have your views please?

Ps I think she can !

Jankovic cannot and will not dominate anything.

She doesn't have the kind of game that dominates. She will play a lot and win some tournaments ensuring that her ranking stays high, but as far as dominating:
- winning several tournaments/slams in a row
- 20+ match win streak
- having the kind of game that strikes fear into your opponent

The answer is no.

See Henin's 2007 and Serena's 2002 for recent examples of domination.

It's not possible for her to dominate tennis as long as Ivanovic and the Williams' are around.

Henin could do it, but Jankovic doesn't have that type of game yet

i was surprised to hear federer's opinion about how a number 1 ranked player should have won a grand slam title. i didn't hear him speak but one of the comentators said federer said when nadal became number 1, he had won 5 grand slam titles. it seems that his comment was directed to jankovic, since she's number 1 without a grand slam title.

Years ago, she may have looked like someone that could dominate tennis--but not now. There is just too much power out there in the likes of Venus and Serena.

For some reason, my feeling is that Venus may take three slams this year.

Yeah but Jelena has a winning record over Venus and is only behind 3-4 against sereena. Sereena as she gets and slower and older and struggles to deal more with the weight she has been handling over the years, will surely start to lose more against Jankovic

Sharapova is really struggling with injury and Ivanovic's confidence is in tatters at the mo - it seems to me that just leaves - Jankovic - as bollettieri predicted below

No he wasn't directing it to Jankovic, it was directed to how people thought Murray was the "favorite" for AO and "the one to beat" and how'd he be a future champion even though he didn't have a Grand Slam title.

I doubt the men give much thought to the WTA in their press conference

Jankovic's game has gotten a lot more consistent. She continuing to improve. I would say she is the favorite but with it comes high expectation.
Mentally, I think she ready for it. She has this happy go lucky mentality but in a positive way. Jelena is the only pro out there that you see smiling during a match. She seems to enjoy her game and fame.

I know its not a given - Jelena will still need to fight thru Ivanovic and the Williams sista to get the notariaty. And she is charging forward to earning her first slam this year..... just don't know which one.

jankovic and zvonareva are two of my favorite wta players to watch not only because they are excellent players but also because they don't grunt.

Jankovic dominating the game would just put an exclamation point on how crappy the WTA currently is. By the way, yes, I could see it happening.

I to enjoy watching them play...they are a nice contrast to many ball bashers on the womens tour. They actually have more of an all around game...to bad neither has won a slam yet.

I see Jelena winning a slam then taking the her racquet and shoving the handle down all these "naysayers" throats who claim she's undeserving of no 1 ranking, not a threat, has no weapons, etc.....

Jelena gets way too much hate from the tennis world (much less this board) and is one of the best spirited, biggest hearted, enjoyable people in professional tennis period.

She may not "dominate" tennis but she WILL win a slam and I enjoy watching her more than the likes of Ivanovic. Shes more overhyped than any other women on these boards.

ROTFL!!! Let her show she can win one frigging slam title before talking about her having a chance to dominate womens tennis.

So we are still debating whether it is her time to win a mere 1 slam yet or not and you are talking of her becoming dominant. Sorry it is insane.

Hey Bollettieri said it something like 8 years ago as stated in the article, rather than me, I was just trying to work out if people thoght he was right or not. It seemed a bold prediction for a girl who was training with bollettieri at the same time as Sharapova and Golovin

Lots of people win slams and never make number 1, so if she wins the Aussie Open nobody will be able to argue. I felt like Clijsters when she was in the same position had public opinion turn round when she finally won a slam. Do you think Jankovic and Clijsters are comparable ?:)

I can see Jankovic winning a Slam, but she's not going to be dominating tennis anytime soon.

so who can stop her apart from herself of course. I just dont see anyone around who can stop her currently. I listed her contenders earlier and their various "issues" maybe Dementieva could do - if she starts to believe it, but currently she is behind Jankovic in the chasing pack.
