Murray World #2 by Wimbledon?

Murray is now pretty much level with Djokovic on points, and both guys are about 1000 points behind Fed.

In the run up to Wimbledon, Fed has about 2800 pts to defend, Djok about 2700 and Murray only 370.

If Murray can continue his promising start to the Clay court season and go fairly deep at Roland Garros, I see no reason he can't be World #2 by Wimbledon.

What do people think?

i think he will be #2 if he Wins Wimbledon but not before that. but there is no doubt that Murray is the best player ever to come out of England in history. Maybe they may have done something right in their Junior develpment. Maybe it was Brad Gilbert's influence.

the thing is it isn't up to him completely. if Fed/Djoko defend their points then Murray HAS to improve his clay results from last year. I expect him to, but don't assume Fed and Novak's points will just disappear.

He's Scottish. You mean best to come out of Britain? The LTA takes care of junior development for the whole of the UK.

It is pretty much up to him. He can definitely pick up 1000 points in the clay season even if Fed and Djoko are able to defend their points. Improving on his clay results will be very easy, and there is nothing Fed and Djoko can do to stop him because he can do it without going past the semis of any event.

I am hoping to se Fed. turn things around... I'd like to say that I have seen two of the greatest people play in person. Of course, that isn't to say that if Fed. doesn't get the French that he isn't one of the greatest...

I know what you're saying, but it does mean that Djokovic has to outperform Murray by over 2000 points and Roger by around 1300 points over the next couple of months to stay ahead of Murray, and on current form, I just don't see that happening.

Hanging onto the #2 spot could be a different matter however, as Murray had a great summer last year, and has a lot of points to defend in the 2nd half of the season.

Oops - I didn't notice this thread. I've just started a thread about Murray being number 2 by RG if he beats Roger in the next 2 Masters 1000 events.

A). Murray is not english
B). Ever heard of Fred Perry?

I didn't do the math but Federer would get seeded #2 even if he's ranked #4 before Wimbledon because of the special seeding system put in place there.

If Federer survives Winbledon, then it's his turn to charge because he's got so little to defend until USO.

Cesc has been talking a lot more sense since yesterday.

I don't know how to feel about it. It makes me feel...uneasy.

LOL :)
It's knocked me a bit sideways too. But I'm giving credit to the guy - it takes a bit of character to do what he's done over the last 24 hours.

Cesc, what has gotten into you? You're being far too positive about Murray. I demand that you start berating him again.

Lol it was sort of a complement but his competition isn't that strong Henman, Rudseski (If he counts he has a canadian accent) and Roger Taylor.
