It's so frustrating to watch the AO2009 final

It was an excellent match.

But I just get so frustrated to see the break points and stuff Federer lost. Especially when some of them were taken by IMPOSSIBLE shots from nadal.

Absolutely perfect volley (I think) for Federer that should have put him at 40-15 to hold serve and go up 5-2 in the set (which is a lot different than 4-3). But Nadal hits a ridiculous passing shot. And I mean ridiculous.

Fed played so well but lost. Spanked winners all over the palce and his backhand was SOLID (up until the 5th set). That frustrates me

Federer played well, but his selection of shots at times was downright bad.

Federer cracked mentally at the end of the first set, in the third set tiebreak, and especially in the fifth, where his serve and return of serve were ridiculously bad. Nadal is a fantastic player, but Fed would have won if he didn't persistently choke on critical points. Some were taken away by nadal's great shots but many were simply thrown away by fed. I would say that Nadal beat fed in wimby 08, but at aussie 09 fed beat himself.

I agree totally, if Federer can sort himself out mentally, then he can get back to where he was a couple of years ago. Physically it's all still there for him:)

There will then still be times when Nadal will beat him (like at Wimbledon last year), but they will be much rarer than they are at the moment!!!

Nadal hardly played his absolute BEST in this match either. He was pretty much just doing enough to win when he needed too. Good match though. Not as good as W'08 though.

The AO2009 was amazing. I still can't believe with all Nadal had going against him that he was able to pull that off. One of the most amazing feats in recent tennis history.

Yes, this is what made fed's performance so frustrating. Nadal was tired from the verdasco epic. He CAN play better. And so can fed. But on that day, with nadal less than 100%, fed played well enough to give himself a chance to win and than proceeded to choke at the most important moments.

I can't believe people couldn't just sit back and appreciate the shotmaking in that clip. That was just about 10 minutes of pure tennis heaven.

Nadal seemed so much more confident than he does now. It's been down hill since Miami 2009. I'm speaking about his potential on other surfaces is. He has much more potential on clay and even in altitude. Maybe the grind is catching up to him. He needs a month off imo.

Yeah, he let himself down. He let a golden opportunity to slip away. It's not easy winning slam as you get older and that one in AO09 was well withing his grasp but he collapsed mentally in the 1st, 3rd and 5th set. Fed was well ahead in the 1st set, then lost it in TB. In 3rd set, he had what seemed like million opportunities to break. Even on 2nd serve, Fed would dump the ball into the net. Why didn't he just ran around the BH and crank the forehand. Even though that might produced errors. Hell, that would be much better than bunting that BH to the net or short so Nadal could put away for a winner. What a mental let down.

I don't watch the AO09 match anymore. It's just too frustrating. Every time I see the W08 final on TC, that just pissed me off. Fed's mental collapse really hurt him there. Fed would have a fighting chance had he held serve and won the 2nd set. How can you expect to win again a player like Nadal when you are down 2 sets to love? Fed should never put himself in that position. I am not saying Fed would win W08, but I am saying Fed would have a fighting chance.

it's disappointing to see Federer play this well and lose. But both played well so hat's off to Nadal. I just don't understand why Federer insisted on playing so many long points... he should've been more aggressive -- especially on his return games.
