My new shoes - Nike Breathe Free II

Just got these a week ago. Probably the best shoes I've ever owned and I've owned tons - (been playing 30+ years). Light, comfortable, cool, durable, etc... Nike used to have a horribly small toe box in their shoes but not this shoe - my toes love 'em! Also, I played 3 matches this weekend in 97 degree weather and my feet felt great after! Yeah, they are $85/pair but with a 6 month guarantee, no worries.

What's your experience? Anyone ever used the guarantee?

They are fantastic shoes. I'm on my 7th or 8th pair now. Just think, you could have been playing in these for the past 4 years or so...

Well, I just came back to the game last fall after 5 years away so I guess I didn't miss anything!! But I agree, these are great shoes. I never thought I would ever wear Nike's again due to the small toe box.

Thanks, Nike. You have a new customer (again). Just don't screw it up!!

so these would likely work well for a wider foot I assume based on your comments about the wider toe box?

The BFII are a little more generous in the toe box width than most Nike Shoes, but I would have still needed to go up a 1/2 size to be fully comfortable. Yonex are now my shoes of choice because I can play 4 hours in them and my feet feel fine - they are definitely more generous in the toe box.

Nike has just been sending out vouchers on warrantied BF2s in my experience, and they don't have BF2s on their website.

I don't know how wide your foot is but I find there's plenty of room for my toes. I have a medium foot but I have always needed extra room for my toes. These fit the bill.

Wow. I'm travelling through Dallas next week and there's a Nike factory outlet near there in Allen, Tx. I may have to pick up another pair at that price. Thanks!!

Price is a BARGAIN actually. it used to be $110. Price has come down since it is an Old model. I am thinking about buying up about 20 pairs so it will last for me for next 3 years or so.:)

Thanks, I already looked there, but I live in Spain and looked to spanish/european store. After shipping to my country from USA they are quite pricey, almost like the latest vapors.

But thanks anyway for the link.

yeah sorry, I can imagine shipping would be pretty pricey.

Liked them alot until I tried on the Nike Air Trainer 1...not even close. the Nike AT1 is heads above in comfort and stability. The toe box is also roomier. The BF2 is a nice shoe, but the AT1 is just all-around better (IMO). They are very cheap too, so if you can get one at least try it. I purchased 6 more. Unlike Fedace who lies like a rug, these 6 should last me 4-6 years.

The BF2 will be in the Spring 2010 catalog. I believe that they are switching to zoom air in the heel as opposed to the max air. The rest of the shoe should remain the same.

Nope. Breathe Free 2's will be back with zoom air in the heel in place of max air.

white w/ black like the current model. and a white/ grey/ black model.

The only thing I'm unsure of is the release date. I think it will be spring...

I am thinking about switching to this shoe because i have developed a NEW Heel problem in my foot. I usually wear Yonex SHT 305's. What do you guys think ? Do you think this shoe will be better ?

Awesome tennis shoe.

I badly injured my Achilles heel wearing a pair of cheaper Nike tennis shoes then I moved to the Nike Breathe Free 2 over around 4 years ago and haven't looked back....these are so far the best tennis shoes I have ever worn...period.

It offers excellent heel cushion like no other tennis shoe, as well a VERY generous toe box...DO NOT MOVE UP HALF A SIZE, these shoes fit true to size, if you move up half a size it will be way too big.

Another BIG PLUS this shoe offers is that it offers the drag on guard all around the shoe surrounded by Drag On mesh, this is important because the mesh helps ventilate the shoe and keep your feet cool and dry and very light.

This tennis shoe has been Nike's bread and butter tennis shoe and I've had many players move to this shoe from my club once they asked to give it a try and I let them wear them.....they loved it.

I bought a pair of Vapor V's to give them a try but they hurt my heel and I hated the tight toe box. I haven't tried the Vapor VI but I understand the toe box is bigger in that shoe and I may give those a try as well for fun.

I own about 4 pairs of these shoes because they are that good....and I'm very picky with gear. You cannot go wrong whatsoever with the BF II, I highly recommend and I hope Nike never discontinues making this great tenns shoe.

Cheers.

You are correct, it's Spring 2010, but they are changing the name to the Zoom Breathe 2K10. Other than that it looks pretty much the same to the current BFIIs.

I hope they change the tongue on the shoe and make it normal instead of the ortho type fit around the ankle. I don't like the tight fit the ortho fit has...is my only complaint with this shoe.

Cheers.

Sounds great! I don't know about replacing the Max w/ Zoom in the heel, though...

Agreed. Max Air in the heel is what gives the BFII such nice cushioning and much better cushioning than the Vapor series. If they switch to Zoom Air, it would be just like the Vapors, which IMO, don't have enough cushioning.

Thanks for the GREAT advice. I am going to buy 5 pairs from Tennis Warehouse tomorrow. Now ONLY problem is What am i going to do with all these YONEX SHT 305's i stocked up on. I have 4 brand new pair of yonexes.:-?

But as a guy who loves the BFII but thinks they should be lower to the ground, this new model is perfect. I've also felt that the Vapor has become too stiff. This will be the perfect shoe for me (some).

Five pairs of a shoe you've never worn? Maybe you should wear out the shoes you have first?

I first thought the heel may be a bit high but I really like the cushion in the BFII with the Max Air. If you have ever injured your heel, it is extremely painful to the point you cannot walk and it takes weeks to heal properly. I prefer the extra cushion to avoid injury. Another good thing about the slightly higher heel is that it helps with the serve hitting the ball a tad higher. I find more of my first serves go in and many more seconds than with playing with the Vapor V as I don't have reach as high with the BFII, my height is 6 feet. But every little bit helps.

This is subjective of course, but just my opinion.

I got real ankle problems from the shoe. The side is just to high for my foot. It hurt so bad.

Does anyway have the black and red variant of the Breathe Free II? Cause I do, but I've never heard of anyone else having it.

These are great, comfortable shoes. I originally had the navy blue & white ones. I had this defect happen to me. it also happened to my friend with the hunter green & white ones. Gotta look at the tongue for the manufacturing date as nike will not replace if past 2 yrs from manufacturing date for any defects - when I got my shoes, I was 6 months away from 2 yr warranty expiration. Tried to send in to Nike company 7 months later - 1 month after 2 yr warranty expired. They were jack@sses about it - they would not replace & told me I was out of luck but they'd make a note about my situation to their customer satisfaction team - . other than that, great shoes otherwise

Does the BFII and new 2K10 run exactly the same size (i.e. purchase the same size when updating to the 2K10)? Thanks...
