Severe pain in ball of foot...Bone Spur???

Got a nagging pain on the inside side of the ball of my foot. A buddy said it might be a bone spur. Even though I run upright, with proper form, I believe I got it from running too much.On a scale of 1 to ten the pain is about a constant 7 and is aggravated by heavy contact...ouch. What diagnostics or treatments are recommended? Thanks.

You might need the Plasma treatment. See the Podiatrist. good chance it is plantar fascitis. Cortisone shot maybe needed on top of Foot orthotics.
if it is bone spur, there are many new treatments, i hear. Many type of minor surgeries can be done to cut it out of there or break it down.

Plantars Fasciitis?

Plasma- Sure does sound like PF, but there are other possibilities. I had similar symptoms as you 3 months ago and self-diagnosed it as PF. I started the usual self-administered treaments but it wouldn't resolve itself so I went to a podiatrist. Turns out it wasn't PF, but a pinched nerve. Had custom insoles made and it resolved itself within 3 weeks.

Strongly suggest you get an experienced professional to look at it. They can properly diagnose it and get you on the road to recovery more quickly than trying to resolve it yourself.

While you are waiting for your podiatrist's appointment, try some insoles with good shock absorbtion for under the ball of the foot, and good overall arch support so your weight is supported along the entire bottom surface of the foot instead of just on the ball of the foot and the heel. You might want to try something like the Sof Sole Men's Stability Insoles: http://www.runningwarehouse.com/catpage-insoles.html

Also if it dosn't improve after 2 weeks, see the doctor and X-ray is a good idea to rule out stress fracture.

Different brands of running shoes provide different levels of overall and forefoot cushioning. Also, the internal cushioning in running shoes breaks down after a certain number of miles, even without visible wear on the outside. Especially true if you have balanced form and a light foot contact.

I use a highly cushioned high mileage training shoe and I throw them out after 3 months or 400 miles even if they look relatively new.

damn, you guys are nearly experts, thanks for your time; I called the podiatrist and have an appointment in 2 weeks. A foot expert reccomended 3/4 motion control sofsole for my flat feet.
On a tennis court you'd never guess I have flat feet, I get everything. In a boxing ring you see it clearly though, it's why I dished out so much bloodshed and took so many near crippling beatings, just too dumb to move out of the way.
A friend said that by defenition PF cannot occur in the ball of the foot. Just got the new Nike's, the softest ones available, pain is still excruciating.

STOP NOW and see the doctor. cause it might be Stress Fracture in the Heel bone. and that is BAD. and put ice on it 3 times a day for 10 minutes. and see if it helps.

I must have misread your post. If the pain is in the "ball" of your foot, meaning the area between your toes and start of your arch, then I doubt it's PF. PF typically presents itself on the heel or front part of the heel.

Regardless, my advice remains the same, and it appears as if you've already acted on this....
