tandayu, I was just about to do a search when I saw your new thread on old Head racquets. What do you know about a "Head Composite Professional?" thanks!
Beautiful racquets, by the way!
this is historic. Pls send this to 80's tennis. Also pls show close up the insert ad for the new graphite edge and edge 2. I would love to be able to read the edge and edge 2 labels, thanks for this beautiful post. I played with the xrc as a young kid in Tel Aviv.
I can't really tell you how it feels now to see so many XRC's, also a 5.5 semi westrern and 5.5 continetal used to battle it out next to me every day on the center court at Macabiah stadium, back when my hearty falafells were just tiny olives.
One guy used a graphite edge.
What year did the edge come out?
Head XRC
thanks for the pictures ... I'm actually still missing this, Competition Edge and TXP.
BTW, what does XRC stand for?
Head Tournament Edge, Comp Edge, Edgewood (Taiwan), and Edgewood
I seem to recall the name XRC was borrowed from a concurrent high-end Head ski.
I don't think Head had too much forethought or meaning behind its abbreviation model names. The only ones I know of that are of any meaning were TXE, TXD, TXM, and TXP, where the E, D, M, and P stood for Edge, Director, Master, and Professional (or Pro), respectively. The TX probably was there because it sounded cool and high performancey.
WOW Tandayu!!!
Superb Racquets
Am so jealous about that Edgewood (Taiwan), the one with Edgewood in middle of throat, that's the one I've been looking for:twisted:
If you know where I can get one of these, please let me know, as been looking for it for ages. It doesn't need to be in perfect condition, and will pay top price
Could it be the "t" for "twaron"? Just guessing
No, Enka BV did not introduce Twaron fiber until late 1985, so the TXE and TXD did not have it and couldn't have been named for it. The TXE and TXD were introduced for 1984 and were graphite-fiberglass composites. The TXP, introduced for 1986, did contain Twaron - it was one of the first applications of this fiber, in fact. The TXM was also a 1986 frame (IIRC) and unfortunately I can't remember if it had Twaron or not. By 1988, almost every Head composite contained Twaron.
Thank you retrowagen,
IF my memory serves correctly "TXm" and "Prestige Master" has twaron, pictures will be posted later tonight
Does Elite pro and elektra pro contains twaron? I try to group the twaron frames in oen picture
Thanks for these great pics tandayu. Those mint XRC's are just beautiful. My favourite racquet ever. To see them in such beautiful condition is very special. My original XRC was stolen in the 80's. I have since picked up two but neither are as well preserved as the ones you have posted. All these great pics of classic Heads are much appreciated.

I grew up with the Head TXE. My dad went to the local pro shop one day and they told him that they were no longer making the TXE and that they only had 6 more of these rackets. My dad bought them all up. I played with them until after I graduated high school in 1992. I actually just got them out of storage a month ago (I only have 4 of them left) but the grommets are all basically gone. Man, those were great rackets.
TXM...one of the best ever...except for that pesky tendency to go soft in the head(no pun intended).
tandayu...no mention of the Composite Director...or have I got one on you? Quite a collection BTW!
tandayu,
What a fabulous collection. Looks like you've corralled the market on Edges.
Since there are obviously a lot of Head racquet lovers on this thread, could anyone tell me how these old guys fit in? I'm not an expert by any means, but the Graphite Tour seems very much like the Edge, and the Comp Pro seems to be about the same vintage and have similar specs to your Graphite Pro 600 -- it has the Twaron Fiber and the Power Wedge, too. Are mine just variations on those models? I have a hard time trying to keep track of all these Head racquets.
Thanks.
