Luxilon String and Tension???

Hi everyone,

im kinda new to talk tennis so please don't call me a noob for asking this question.

I've been playing with my Dunlop 200 Aerogel 18x20 for awhile now and am really happy with it. I think the control is awesome, weight is just right, easy to customize, and very stable. but switching from the lighter, and more open string pattern Dunlop 400 mfil 16x19, I am starting to miss the extra power and easier access to spin.

I have been recommended by some people to try the luxilon strings. i checked them out on tennis warehouse and these are the ones im interested in that are available at my local pro shop.

Luxilon Big Banger Original 16
Luxilon Big Banger Ace 18
Luxilon Timo Banger 17/18
Luxilon Alu Power 16L

here are my specs:
-14 years old, 5'8 1/5, 130lbs
-3.5-4.0 player (given by club coach/pro)
-primarily baseline player, with deep topspin forehand and backhand, decent backhand slice
-decent flat serve, so-so topspin second serve
-decent net player

what string would you recommend for me to put on my aerogel 200 18x20 and at what tension. ive heard for the luxilon strings are at a lower tension then most.

Thanks

I am wondering the same thing.

The Big Banger Original and ALU Power feel pretty dead, IMO. You better bring your own power with those. For a 3.5-4.0 player, I'd recommend the Big Banger Ace, it's a little more forgiving and gives some extra pop.

Dude, you're 14 years old, you do not need Luxilon. If you're missing easy access to power, lux is not the way to go, trust me. If I were in your position, I'd try a nice multi, like NRG2, which is my personal favorite.

Vbranis thanks for the recommendation. what would you recommend the tension at. can you explain each string and what its good for?

btw: the strings i have on right now are Technifibre NRG2 16. power isnt much of a concern, i just want more spin (ive switched to a full western grip and its starting to take its toll) and better depth. like i had before.

to people who said i dont need it: maybe your right? but since its summer i want to try and find a set of strings for my new racket that i will consistently go back and get.

^It's true that it might not be the best for you, but IMO it's worth a try. I'd recommend mid 50s for the BB Ace, anything higher and it will detract from the spin potential and power. Also, your racquet has a dense pattern, so the 18 gauge will have decent durability.

Thanks, im thinking about getting BB Ace @ 54-56lbs. btw i might have lowered my rating unintentionally. Im a solid 4.0 player to weak 4.5 player (due to serve and volleys). but lately ive been questioning my rating after joining the Stanly Park Open in vancouver and being humbled very quickly in the 4.0 div. (juniors must play 4.0+).
