I used to practice origami when I was younger but stopped for a bit. Now I've picked it back up again. There are some pretty cool ones out there that have been created so I'm trying them out now. Anyone else here practice origami?

Yup. I'm a teacher, and I have a whole bulletin board in my classroom covered with origami. Sometimes students will bring in things that they've done, and I'll add it to the board.

That's great. Kids nowadays should consider themselves very lucky. They have access to the internet, so it's much easier to obtain a origami diagram. When I was younger I only had the library at my disposal which only had one book on origami as I lived in a very small town. In fact I saved up money and told the library that I lost it and bought the book that way.

Here's another one that I made.

Now that I've familiarized myself with the folds again I'm going to start to trying more complex ones.

I started by just picking up a book at a bookstore one summer...and got hooked, especially with the variations you get by using different kinds of paper. I did find many online diagrams, but I still go back to that first book. All my pieces are at school...I'll try to take a picture when we go back.

This is really interesting. I would love to get into origami. Is there a special kind of paper one should use?

Also, I read somewhere that origami is good for the brain...especially the developing brains of kids.

Lifted...there is special 'origami/folding' paper you can buy (usually in craft stores or online), but I have fun using different wrapping papers, or even newspaper. Anything that folds well and looks cool to you will work!

Origami is very good for developing spatial skills, in both adults and kids.

I like folding/hands on/craftsy stuff, although I do a lot less of the artsy stuff nowadays, I like to solder and tinker with electronics more.

As far as origami, i loved it when I was younger, but never got to the advanced stuff, as I had the hardest time figuring out WTF they were trying to illustrate with some of their directions.:confused:

(No instructions, just picture flows). Some of the arrows here, "tada" instructions were mind boggling.

I bought my daughter a book on this about 3 years ago. It was pretty comprehensive. She tried the easy stuff and then gave it up.

I used to when i was little. I've been interested
in moneygami lately. costs it bit more...

I've been looking for the instructions on how to make
this one but can find it:

Yeah, I love moneygami. I sometimes leave tips in restaurants using it. Some of these I have never seen before though. I'll have to see if I can find how to make some of them. I know how to make a shirt, a spider, a scorpion, and a horseshoe crab.

Can you do some of the complex stuff? I have one of John Montroll's books. That guy is a guru.

Yeah, I've seen some directions and I'm like what the hell? How did they go from here to here?
