so who will end up with the better 2010? everyone wrote off federer in 2009 yet he made every grand slam final including two wins. talk about an off year. so people here doubt that rafa nadal will be elite in2010 saying he has slowed in speed and is injury prone. nadal stays aggressive he wins all of the time. the doubters can say what they want but there are only two top players running the ATP

And this is where you are very wrong.
Wouldn't at all be surprised if 2010 will be the year of Djokovic, Del Potro and/or Murray, with perhaps a few newcomers joining in in the elite ranks as well. Nothing stays forever and Fedal have been ruling tennis for five years already, a decline happening to both of them might not be so unimaginable as you think it is.

The more time passes, the more likely it will become.
But of course, we don't know at all. Being a fan of both, I ensure you that I'm hoping that I am entirely wrong, but not counting on it. Also, I'd rather finish 2010 being pleasantly surprised than very much disappointed, another reason not to set my expectations all too high.

ignorance on their part i guess you can say motivated federer and nadal--if the media does this year in and year out it could be deja vu again. but i can assure you federer and nadal aint going anywhere

Rafa Nadal will win the US open next year and that is it, While Federer will win the French open. Wimby is Roddick. Aussie is either Davy or Soderling. Federer might have the better year with winning more varied titles than Nadal and still keep his number one ranking.

Wow, that's some wild GS predictions. You never know...but I don't think there's a good chance of any of those happening.

I think Nadal will reclaim RG next year. Federer...either Wimbledon or USO, not sure about Australia.

All in all, though, I think Fed will finish the year #1, to answer the OP.

Hard choices..i'd rather choose del potro..federer getting old.nadal getting injured. I chose federer, maybe the blx might help him win with its elemental powers? :)

Its tough to say, but I go with youth.
I predict a 2 slam year for Rafa, retaking the no 1 spot

Youth is on Rafa's side b/c of the age factor. However that doesn't mean Rafa's knees is nearly 5 years younger than Roger, but more like 5 years older!

Unfortunately I think it will be Federer. I have a strange feeling we are in for another 2 slam/2 Masters titles like year from Federer and that will probably be enough to be #1. I just hope Nadal wins the French next year, if he wins that it will be nice for him as it doesnt seem as much a lock as previous years, and if he wins anything else it will be a bonus.

Probably Nadal, but I think Federer will win a slam. I don't think either will finish as #1, though.

I think the only other one who could end #1 is Del Potro. I dont believe Djokovic or Murray will do it. Djokovic could except he cant seem to put it all together mentally. Murray I have a feeling could get left behind next year.

Fed is just too consistent in slams. I predict a slam or two next year for him ( Wim/USO), few MS titles ( 1 or 2) and a standard ATP title, most probably ending the year as #1 for the sixth time. As for Rafa, i think he would dominate the clay season as always, regain the RG title and probably Wimbledon too, and that's it. Watch for Delpo too! He is always a major threat anywhere ( including grass).

and why unfortunately? Whoever ends number one IS number one.

Nadal has yet to prove he can stay healthy after Wimbledon, so I don't think he will reach #1. Plus there are now too many people that can beat Nadal on anything but clay, and even on clay he isn't as dangerous because his knees are degrading so rapidly now. Two years ago his knees degraded after Wimbledon, this year before RG, and it will only get worse. Especially now that he has to worry not only about Fed, but also DelPotro, Murray, Soderling, and Davydenko on any surface.

Federer will decline even further and will have a tough time beating the top guys. Nadal will improve as the season progresses, so I think Nadal will win more slams than Fed and overall will have a better season, and naturally so, Federer will be 29 next year, no?

Decline even further? Honestly, his level of play was better this year than last. He had some bad matches this year, true, but some truly horrific ones last year (vs Mardy Fish..omg)

I think/hope Rafa,
He will win AO, FO and Wimby.
Fed will win UO I think.
And the masters final in London will also be Rafa - Fed.
Oh, and Rafa will win against Fed in the Davis cup. :p

If this all come true, it will be a great RAFA year.

I don't think either Nadal or Federer will dominate in 2010. I think they will both be contenders for different grand slams but other players like del potro and djokovic could be just as dominant in 2010.

Ideally, a typical player at 23 should do better than at 28. But rafa is not as good as Federer(except clay), so more likely Roger will do better. There's more challenge ahead for Rafa since he has more matchup issues with the top ten players.

I think Delpo will be the best :).

Seriously, both Nads and Feds are going downhill it seems.

Fed has won it all, so it will be difficult to keep on finding motivation. For Nadal, there was a huge loss of confidence and also the many physical problems this year, so it remains to be seen if he can bounce back.

Pressure is all on Rafa since he's only 23, Roger is 28 and he doesn't have anymore to prove after what he accomplished in 2009. Tlus, rafa has all the motivation, not Roger. If Roger continue to stay ahead of Rafa in the future, more testament of how better he is despite pasting his prime.

They will both have a bad year I think and del Potro and Djokovic will seize the opportunity as Murray "pushes" it away
