Read on here about Solinco strings.....I went to the site today and emailed them about how to get their stuff. Had a rep call me in a matter of hours. After discussing their marketing model a bit, we decided on him sending out a sampler pack so that I can play test their strings.

I will update this thread when they come in and I get to string em up.

The rep reported to me that they plan to launch their distribution early next year. I dunno how, but sounds to me like they will start off with web distribution.

Ok...just recieved my box of strings from Solinco.

I ordered 2 gauges of each of their poly's one 17g and 18g so that I can play test them.

Here is a shot of the packages of string.

I am thinking I will string up the tour bite first and see how it plays. I like the color of the outlast the most (red is my favorite color) but from what I have read the tour bite is a new improved version of ALU rough.

If weather permits, I will get to play test them tomorrow.

I emailed them and they had a sales rep contact me. I ordered them through him after discussing their products for a few minutes. I received the strings in about a week, minus xmas shipping breaks. I just went to their site and emailed them through that.

I would give you the site, but it would get filtered out.

Hopefully tomorrow the weather will permit me to hit for a couple of hours with the tour bite.

Interesting. I've heard the brand name passed around through conversations at the club but no one knew how to get them. Let us know.

It is actually closer to Alu Power (normal version) - as it is a smooth poly, not a textured poly like Alu Power Rough.

I strung up a set of Tour Bite several weeks ago. It looks almost identical to Alu Power. It plays somewhat close to Alu Power. I don't think it had the almost magical crispness that Alu has, but it is still a very good poly.

Well it does have that profile that spirals around......wouldn't that fall under the textured category?

I personally call all the profile strings like blue gear and such textured.

Yeah - You are right... kind of. And I am wrong... kind of. :)

It is technically a non-round poly - probably most similar to Alu Power Spin - which is a pentagon shaped string.

It is smooth though and not textured like Alu Power Rough. Alu Power Rough is a round string - just has textured or "rough" areas.

wow the string packaging looks pretty nice as opposed to msv and genesis ones....im really interested in tour bite, tells us how that goes

What is the price for one set/reel? Also please tell us how the tension maintenance and playability is! I am dying to get a string that is like Luxilon but softer, better tension maintenance, and about ~100$ a reel. That is my dream string :)

Prices are around 11 dollars a set for tour bite 10 for the revolution and 8 dollars for the outlast.

I will let you know how it holds tension after a couple of hitting sessions.

Had a chance to hit with the tour bite 18g today for a couple of hours.

I am really impressed with this string. The spin it generates is off the charts. The power is a bit more than I expected, but it is not so crazy that you can't hit a nice strong stroke!!

Overall the string out performs just about any poly I have hit with. ALU rough, which it is trying to mimic does not hit as nicely as this did.

I know alot of you like an overall review reporting about each type of shot and such, but really the best way to explain this string is that I felt so confident with it that my strokes just seemed to be blazing. I mean every freaking shot felt like a laser and they almost always caught the line when I played it close.

I had a fresh job of Blue gear, and Polyfibre TCS strung up in identical racquets right next to it....and they both were way behind in performance.

The bite on the ball with this string is a monster, and that is what I think inspires so much confidence.....the cuts you can take are sick.


I hope this stuff hits the mainstream at a reasonable price point....cuz it is amazing stuff so far. Luxilon better watch it's back, cuz this stuff by far out hit anything they have in their line up.

I have not hit with any of the new signum hyperion to compare, but I can say that this string is leaps ahead of any poly I have ever hit with.

Lets just hope it stays this way as they promise. Weather permitting I will give it a couple more hours tomorrow.

This just goes to show that strings are so subjective and that all of us have varying opinions of certain strings...

I like Tour Bite, but I would take Alu Power Rough over Tour Bite any day of the week.

Like I just posted in another thread, other polys I've tried recently - which include SOLINCO Tour Bite and Polystar Turbo - play very well, but they all seem to lack the solid crispness that I get with Alu. IMO, there is just something almost magical about freshly strung Alu - something I haven't yet found in other polys.

Now Alu certainly has its downsides... Doesn't maintain tension/playability as long as I'd like, and its price (given its poor tension maintenance) is a little on the high side IMO. Nevertheless, its playability is so outstanding for me and outweighs these downsides.

It is that old adage You say Tomato, you say Tomahto (spelling em phonetically) at work I tell ya.

I agree about how great ALU is when it is fresh, but as you said, that is like being addicted to heroin, cuz that feeling does not last long, and cost a fortune to maintain.

Seems with like such great profits luxilon could address this issue instead of forgoing such a large market share in the average user.

Agreed. I am hoping their new Adrenaline string will address this issue. Early reports I have read on Talk Tennis seem to indicate that it plays similarly to Alu, maintains tension better, and costs less. I guess only time will tell...

I'm always a bit hesitant to describe something as the best, or better. However, the Tour Bite is right now in my opinion superior to anything out there. including all variations of BB. Tension lasts longer, and it's arm friendly. I've been stringing for 37 years, so have seen many come and go. I also string for two top juniors. In both players, (Head Extreme, Babolat Pure Drive), I strung Tour Bite on the mains at 56, crossed with VS 59. Absolutely out of site. Without hesitation I recommend you give this one a try.

Did the sales rep mention anything about the MSRP of the strings? I have heard they are rather high for the strings. I have heard they are Luxilon prices. In that case many would rule out the strings.

IIRC, Solinco had a few multifilaments as well as polyesters. Did they mention anything about their multis? I'm interested in a sample myself.

mr bond what are your thoughts on outlast and revolution? also which tour bite did you prefer...17g or 18g. im looking to buy a reel of one of their polys so any info would help

Outlast is their softest poly. I have Tour Revolution in the crosses of one of my rackets now. I'd compare it with Pacific X Force, although I like the blue color better (if that matters). I have the 18g in, and it's still a little stiffer than I thought it would be. I have a set of Tour Bite also, but haven't tried it yet. If/When I do, I will definitely drop the tension more in the crosses with it, although it plays very well.

Though the Tour Rev. is stiffer, its a little more durable then the Pacific X Force
