Slazenger Panther Pro Ceramic

I just acquired a Slazenger Panther Pro Ceramic today off of craigslist

This thing is brand new, still has plastic wrap on the handle, came with original case, and not a scratch on the bumperguard.

I'll have to build up the grip since it is only an L2 (i use an L5). but i can't wait to go out and hit with this thing. It is too cold to use today though.

It has good heft, dense pattern in the middle (16X19 but more dense in the middle), same headsize as my KPS88 +or- 2 sq inches. My balance board has it 3 pts HL. Stay tuned for the review

It is great playing racquet. I still have a Panther Pro Ceramic. Mine is a early Made In West Germany production.

Dang, wish I could get one in that grip size. I've seen a few go by on the big auction site but they all have bigger grips that I can use. In fact, there's a 4 1/2 on sale right now. In any case, great find (and bargain)!

How can you discern which factory/year it was made? I',m curious about mine now.

Saw the one on the bay and it looks like a got a great deal.:)
L5's are tough to find as well as L2's but at least I can build up to L5. L2 is is a bit tougher. Maybe if you find a 9/10 L5 we could trade or something. There is also a nice thread on home handle remolding. http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=256084

Mine says Made In West Germany while yours says Made In England. I have had the racquet since 1987. Production started in West Germany.



On the grip issue. You can't remold the handle. It is one piece racquet. The handle is made of graphite like the rest of the racquet. It is not a PU molded handle or on a interchangeable pallet system

I vaguely recall seeing both white and grey versions of this frame. Was I dreaming or are there two versions?

The grey was the original. When Slazenger signed Jimmy Connors it changed to White. Mine is a white Made in West Germany.

So West Germany came before England. But I guess there is no serial # or whatever to determine an exact year.

The grip issue shouldn't be a big problem, I guess i can mold something around the existing handle since I want to make it larger. It would take too many overgrips to get an L2 to an L5., I like sharp bevels.

BTW, I have 2, both were made in Germany. One has the Jim Connors signature while the other does not. Both have soft muted dampened feel.

Heat shrink sleeves. how it did not come to mind I have no idea. I must be really of my rocker today. thanks for bringing me back to reality. They sell them at the ********* only 15min away, they have been right under my nose.

Doesn't this racquet have the same mold as the Dunlop Max Competition? Or is it the Competition Plus?

man, that racket is so cool.
i had a Slazenger aluminum racket in the early 1970's when they first came out. it had so much power, but would vibrate your arm off, but i could the ball at over 100 mph and it was great!!

I managed to get some practice time in with the Panther Pro and it did not quite have the feel i was hoping for, I am going to build up the grip, add some silicone in the handle, and maybe some lead. I'll see what happens then.

What kind of feel are you looking for? It has a very muted (buttery feel) to me and also a little more powerful than my PS85 and PC600.

I like a buttery type of feel. Could be more flexible. I just felt that with the small grip it didn't feel stable enough. Then the silicone to increase weight and further enhance the feel.

Let us know the improvement in feel, if any, with increased weight and silicon injected into the handle.

I couldn't play because of the snow but i practiced a bit on the indoor racquetball court at my school and it hit great. It is pretty darn heavy with the grip built up but it is quite HL so it helps.

Rocket Science is the movie. It was no blockbuster. It went staight to DVD. I think it was an awesome film but many would not like it because the ended doesn't provide all that much closure. I like unexpected endings myself.

As i remember Jimbo played with it from 1987 and this period racquets were made in different weights - SL, L, LM, M. It was marketed with the sticker (along with grip size) outside the throat.
