What's with the Fed hate?

Okay I get it, you think Fed's a prissy pretty boy. But honestly, is there anything wrong with that? So he matches his clothes and fixes his hair; that's his prerogative. He's on international television and he has a lot of sponsors backing him and he has an image to uphold for both himself and those sponsors.

Also, some guys just like looking good. In fact, the way he acts reminds me of myself in a lot of ways, so I can understand where he's coming from. It's not to annoy you or be arrogant, it's just who he is. I think we should all leave Federer alone about his "girly" habits.

Trust me dude some people have no idea who they are critizing. They have nothing better to do other than pick on those small things pro players do and turn them in to huge news. Ironically these same people cant even hit a decent forehand and say Federer is a wuss...that just says it all. Lets move on over these boring threads...

Fed Hate.

Maybe the OP has been to busy crying to notice, but in the last few weeks everyone has been making threads on Federer. We've got JennyS wasting her life digging up pointless stats about Federer, we have other posters trying out Federer's forehand and we've got hundreds of threads and posts kissing Federer's ass and singing his praises/and fishing for compliments.

Look at all he **** the likes of Rios, Hewitt, Roddick, Safin and Murray get. Then come back and tell me that Federer gets it tough in the world of TW!

It's just jealousy because Fed surpassed everybody else playing beautiful tennis with class like nobody had done before.

At the FO? Perhaps, otherwise no.

But I seriously doubt he will ever be the same player he was in 08'.

Nadal doesn't need 08 form to beat Federer at Roland Garros. Nadal has handed out beatdowns year after year. Hell, prime Federer stuggled with 'teen' Nadal.

I acknowledged that Nadal would probably beat Federer at the FO again... IMHO Nadal would probably have more trouble with other players such as Djokovic, Del Po, Soderling, Davy in earlier rounds than he would with Fed in the finals.

What are you talking about? How many of those matches were on clay?

People over here are acting as if not winning titles for a few months and getting hardcourt beatdowns is something NEW for Nadal.

It is NOT.

After winning Roland Garros in 2006, Nadal didn't win a single title for the rest of the year. He was getting "pounded" by top 10'ers as well. Berdych and Youzhny to name some. Even worse, he lost to 642-ranked freakin' Joachim Johanson! Lost to Blake in Shanghai and then Federer.

What happened after that? The following clay court season in 2007 - He won almost everything.

Next year, After 2007 Wimbledon, Nadal won in Stuttgart and doesn't win a title for the next 9 months and people go crazy over the drought. What happened after that once the clay court seasons started? He won everything.

And then last year (in 2009) , he wasn't playing nearly as well as he was in 2008 during the clay season, yet he still dominated until the French Open.

People act like the fact that Nadal being beaten by "inferior" players means he's going to lose his confidence for good. I'm sorry, but Nadal has always had his fair share of losses on hard courts to players ranked below him. That's hardly anything new.

Was Nadal in the 2008 form last years when he won MC, Rome, Barca? From past experience, Nadal's B game on clay is still enough to beat most players in the world on clay.

Now will it be enough against Fed, Djokovic or Del Potro? (the only men with realistic chances to beat him on clay). That remains to be seen,. but if history taught us anything, it's that Nadal is always able to pick up his game on clay, similar to the way Fed is able to do it at Wimbledon or the US Open. He just feels at home on that surface and can play himself into form with relative ease.

If it's Federer vs Nadal at the F.O, then the big edge goes to Nadal based on their 4 previous RG meetings. Federer couldn't even beat him at RG in 2005, when Nadal had just turned 19, a few weeks after Fed beat him at Miami. They had no history then, and Rafa still handled him.

If you're talking about Madrid '09 being a turning point, the same thing happened at Hamburg '07, and we know what happened next. Federer has as much hold over Nadal on clay as Davydenko does over Federer in general. Davy beat Federer two times before A.O. But what happened after that? Federer still took care of him in the slam.

Now I do realize that mentally, it's a bit tougher for Nadal this year, as the tour is deeper. Rafa is also coming off injuries and there's more pressure on him. But again, the last thing I would question with Nadal is his mental fortitude. I think he'll bounce back fine, provided he stays healthy.

With all due respect, they've done something to earn some disrespect. Roger Federer is disrespected based on the fact that he keeps up his appearance is the point I'm trying to make. When he does something worth criticizing, like his outburst a while back, that's one thing, but it's different when he really didn't do anything to anyone.

Tennisfan- the truth is, Nadal still hasnt beaten anyone ranked in the top ten since...god, has it been since Madrid?

Until he reverses that , its a worrisome thing for his game.

The next few tournaments will be very interesting to see.

That said, he played very well agaisnt Davydenko in Doha and Murray, so I dont think his level is far off.

Roger, did not "look good" at Wimbledon. He came out looking like some kind of Sgt. Pepper reject/Bill Tilden.

I don't think Roger, has actually been stylish for several years.

And he will occasionally, snipe at other touring players but even with that said, I still like Roger Federer.

You totally misunderstood me. I wasn't talking about competing on clay, but every surfaces throughout the entire year. Someone said "Nadal coming back = No Fed owning!", which is ludicrous. Nadal haven't won a title since April of last year, and he has shown no sign of coming back strong. Every losses are coming from an excuses of being tired or injury. He's been losing to every top ten players except one player - Verdasco. It's pointless for some people keep on predicting he'll be back. He had many chances to prove himself, but only to get knocked out again and again. Talk is cheap, until he proved to us with his racquet on court, then we can take him seriously. His current condition and playing level right now is not convincing. Also, don't expect Nadal to dominate the clay like he did in the past years. Those golden days for him are all gone. He may still be the best, but the players today are not afraid or intimidate by him anymore. These guys are confident and believe they can beat him on clay.

Uhm, I agree with you that Rafa is going through a harsh period in his career right now, but wait a minute... hasn't he had those 'worse' results about every year so far during the post-Wimbledon part of the season? 'worse' between parentheses, as I don't think that reaching a couple of semis (including the USO) and even finals on HC is 'bad' at all... :?

So far, he has done exactly what you claim he won't be able to do this year (apart from 2008-beginning of 2009, when his WHOLE season was fantastic): bounce back as soon as the clay season starts off. You are claiming he won't be able to do so this year, but if he manages to regain his fitness (and why should he not, he's been out for quite a while now?), we'll probably see him do exactly the same thing yet again. Maybe not with the same level of dominance like in 2008/other previous years, but if there's one big mistake to make here, it's writing him off prematurely. At least imho.

Let's just wait and see what will happen.

As for the original question at stake, it's quite easy - some petty folks just aren't able to give credits where they are due. With success comes some level of 'hatred', if it is indeed anything like that. I don't think so, it's more a sad state of mind due to disappointment about other players around, not being able to live up to expectations.

He is a bit of a pretty boy, but so are a lot of european guys its just different over there. Looking at Roger then at American players like Fish and Roddick its almost funny. But I do feel at times Rog over plays his hand a little like with the cardigan and matching hand bag, that was a little weird.

The 2008 cardigan was classy and nice, imho. The combining 'man-purse' was NOT . And his 2009 attire was utterly horrid. :help:

exactly i think we should just see what will happen. and i do agree when you do succeed some level of "hate" does arise. i can say i dislike federer off the court just cause some things he do BUT i can not deny he is a great tennis player. i'm pretty sure a lot of people can't deny that federer is a great tennis player and i think that they only thing that matters.

WHat's with the Fed hate??? Well for me I just flat out don't like him. I don't like the way he plays. I don't like watching him on TV, or live. He just generally rubs me the wrong way and I don't like him. I pull for whomever is playing against him and hope he loses.

I enjoy watching Federer play and he seems like a classy fellow, but what pisses me off about him is that he is too... aristocratic. Just too full of himself. He has his own hologram and he plays tennis with a rolex. On the other hand, Sampras looks much more working-class to me that's why I like him

Pete was a great champion with a bigger heart. And Pete waaaaaaayyyyyyy more humble than Federer ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Xg8l5hQhRQ ). He'll always be missed . For those that followed him, know how truly great he was.

The merits of being humble are grossly exaggerated, IMO

True. People can say what they want in public and still go home and say to themselves "I freakin' rock". We assume these world-class athletes are humble and modest, but if you were revered by the public and internationally famous, you can't say that wouldn't go to your head at least a little.

If I recall, he beat Federer at '09 AO. He doesn't need his 08 form, he needs to keep up his CC FH and DTLBH and he can beat Federer because Nadal has a much better BH than Federer and keep mixing up his serve because his serve is too predictable. Lastly he needs to just get healthy for once. If he can do these 3 things I think he'll be more than fine.

Well i don't think Nadal would beat Federer on the rebound ace court, but this new acrylic court (plexicusion) seems slower than the rebound ace. Nadal 07 would have a shot.
