I have a Gamma ST 2 crank, and they last few string jobs I have noticed that on the first pull I seem to always encounter the stringing slipping from the clamp. Is this an indicator that the clamps need to be cleaned ?

Rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush. Don't be shy. Also, use a grease board marker to mark the strings in the clamps. Make little hashes on the string right in front of or behind the teeth. When you pull the next main, you can see if your clamp is slipping. The ink wipes right off. Very, very helpful.

Now, get to it!

Is it the same string? If you are using a thinner gauge, you'll need to tighten the clamps. If not, a good cleaning should fix your problems. Good luck.

I sometimes make the clamps tighter for the first few mains and then I loosen them up a little once I get going. That first pull is always going to be the hardest. You can also use a starting clamp on the outside of the frame as a backup for the first anchored main.

Just got a starting clamp, and that definitely makes that first pull a lot easier.
Thanks

Use that starting clamp behind the clamp on the first pull. It'll keep it secure until you get the second pull. Works like a charm. I use this technique every time. Also, make sure your clamps aren't too tight. Just enough to secure the string but not enough to damage them.

Good luck!!
