Wozniacki switches to Yonex

brad gilbert just said on tv he thought it was a bad idea to switch. he said yonex is for flat ballers and babolat is for spinners, and they also mentioned how long it took djokovic to transition when he did a racquet switch... i agree with gilbert. if youre a successful top player that wants to win, why would you switch? and the ones that win grand slams go as far as to use the racquet they play their best with/most comfortable with regardless of any endorsements, ala connors (t2000), sampras (prostaff), becker, lendl, even mcenroe. can you imagine nadal switching to a different brand for more money? i dont think that would ever happen..
Brad Gilbert doesn't know much about equipment.
He and Cahill are jokers when you talk about equipment and they say nonsense all the time about it.
First Tsonga never used much spin and what racket does He play with?
Gilbert is the one that says that everybody uses Luxilon(in part it is true) by the color but He doesn't know that are 15 different ones, but He thinks they are all the same.
Cahill was the one that said last year that Istomin was using Babolat string(because of the color) while He was using Red Code. Same thing with Tipsarevic, they assumed He was using RPM while He was using Black Code and He never researched about it.
I use the RDS mid and I can generate more spin than with the K90, DNX 10, ... BG is saying BS(like always) and actually demeaning a company with his idiotic comment.
EZONE generates more spin than the Babolat APD, since it's the same head size but Yonex has the Isometric shape and has 16x18.

For the Babolat fans:
Get over Wozniacki will finish her WTA career using Yonex rackets and maybe strings, just like Seles, Dementieva,...
Why don't you guys go buy Yonex rackets and find out what you're missing, lol.

I don't know how anyone could make a claim that Yonex racquets are for flat hitters. I don't play with Yonex now, but I used to play with the RD7 and the 001 Mid for a while, and I would say those produced the spinniest ball I ever had.

Yonex are very good racquets, but I think Dunlop provides the same advantages, with much better feel for the ball.

Could someone update me how Wozniacki is playing with here new Yonex frame compared to how she played with the APD?

In the match I watched it looks like she's made the transition well. Her depth, consistency and shotmaking looked similar to what it was with the Babolat she's be playing.

Ok good to hear. It's nice with players who aren't that gear dependent.

And then there are those who say it killed her game and will blame the racquet in the event she loses.

And there are those who will praise the racquet if she wins.

I think her game is the same.

I was re-reading (read: re-drooling) over the Yonex VCORE ad.

It says the VCORE tech "reduces impact force for greater face stability." Does this sound like it might be a "soft at impact" racquet?!

Nobody can't tell without hitting with it. All manufacturers are saying things like this;) I certainly hope so and am waiting impatiently. Maybeb Jura can answer Your question.

Wozniacki seems to be doing well with the new racket.
Is she using now the new Yonex Poly Tour 1.30 white, because I see(or i think i saw) white strings and she had tried the yellow one before ?
Anybody knows about it?

Q. You're playing with a new racquet. What are you stringing it with?

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: Uhm, I am stringing it right now with the strings that I played with before.

Q. Which was what? Some kind of composite?

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: It's the red string. It's called Revenge and natural gut. But, yeah.

The way Li Na was playing was incredible. She was thumping the ball. I was very impressed with her. Caroline has to keep developing because I think when she gets into semis and finals if majors she will play the best ones and the best ones are better and more aggressive than her and therefore her defensive way is what is killing her.
In her first major playing with Yonex she already reached the semis and lost to a better opponent. Her major may be the french where I think it favors her style.

Nope. It is all the racquets fault. If she had stayed with Babolat she would have beaten Na Li and be into the finals. She would have gotten destroyed by Clijsters but that is of little importance. Yonex = Career Death.

Wozniacki lost the match. She had Li Na on the ropes, Li Na could not hit two shots in the court in a row without making an error. Somehow, Wozniacki lost it when up 5-4, and she was never the same.
I was not impressed with Li Na as much as I thought Wozniacki folded, a bit. Her second serve (Wozniacki's) became tentative, and floated too much. My wife called it a powder puff 2nd serve. When she double faulted to lose the set, the match was clearly over.
The Yonex had nothing to do with it. She played fine with it, and hit solid shots with control.

Agree, Woz was playing great with the new Yonex. If she didn't get tired, i think she would pulled this match out in 3 sets. Woz went up a Break in the 3rd set and did something really weird on the serving game right after.
Woz went up 30-0 and was about to consolidate the break and put a easy Overhead in the bottom of the net. That is due to tired legs.
and played another bad looking 3 points after that to get broken right back.

then Woz was just completely empty in the tank for the rest of the match.

This happens all the time, when you play a really hard game, run a lot, you know you won a game but will lose the next ones until you can recover and catch your breath.
There is so much you can run.

As much as its easy to jump on the racquet change, and I'm sure Babolat is thrilled to have 2 Babolat players in the final, Woz seemed to overall hit well w/ the Yonex. She moved the ball around with good control, retrieved as usual and generally played her game.

Na Li is high risk high reward player. When she's on she hits lots of winners and looks great and unstoppable, when she's off she looks terrible...often in the same match. She's a bit like that Dolgopolov recently. Its funny to hear the announcers during a bad streak saying...oh he/she needs to dial back and stop going for so much...like they did relentlessly early in the Dolgo/Soderling match...only to see Dolgo keep going for it, find his shot, go on a tear and win the match. Actually, Soderling can be that way too. Their style is to keep hitting while making tweaks and adjustments and hope they find their range get hot.

I watched the Na Li/Cjisters finals match at Medibank...same thing was happening. Na Li missing all over the place and goes down 0-5 in the first set, but she kept going for her shots and eventually found her range and went off a a run to win the match.

I do think Woz got a bit tired/drained which is unusual. Na Li was moving her around a lot early...of course you would think she would be used to that since she runs all match every match...but maybe she was just feeling a little extra tired/drained today feeling the pressure and after losing her match point opportunity some energy went out of her. Everyone has those days...Na Li looked a bit tired too near the end but she plays a different game so was able to finish better IMHO. I thought Woz actually moved the ball around well, going down the line to move Li instead of just hitting straight back, but she just doesn't have that piercing flat shot she can call up for winners like someone like a Na Li has...especially on the forehand. Na Li even hit a few nice forcing shots she came in behind. Woz can beat these players but only if they make too many errors before finding their range...just depends on the day IMHO.

Also, to her credit, I've never seen Woz look at her racquet, whack it or do anything during play that indicates she is even thinking about her racquet.

I still find it amazing that a #1 player would change racquets and it does make an interesting story line to her career from here on out.

If/when Woz gets the ability to hit winners, she will become a dominating force. Until then she is just a very very good player who will consistently get to quarters/semis but never win the final imo

It is odd with her size and apparent strength that she doesn't have seem to possess that shot. She can pull off the occasional sharp angle for a winner, mostly from her bh, but rarely through the court.

IMO, that pj is hideous

It kinda looks like the old MG pj.
I can't help but laugh at this.

Woziniaki.

Super Bad outfit - distracted Wozi (she was pissed) especially during serve.
No bite on her second serve.
Great consistent ball basher and plays too safe most of the time. Relied too much on keeping her error % low; long rallies and getting moved side to side to play catch up defense worned her out.
No big weapon to finish off her opponent. logged on 24 winner vs Li Na's 54 winners

Even if she won over Li Na - she won't get pass the lighting fast and heavy canon from Clijster.

Needs better patterns on the court and with the outfits she is wearing this year.

We're still waiting here in N. America. My local shop said Yonex are sending theirs on Feb 15th so they should have them instock about a week after that. Hopefully TW will be about the same.

I just got the march issue of Tennis. I am shocked that they show her on the cover with a Babolat. Wouldn't her management make sure that she had a Yonex in her hand? She made the switch a while ago.

It's the magazine's fault.
They probably had the magazine pretty much ready a while back, but still could have just updated the photo.
