The USO 2004 final and the RG 2008 final were not close, but you were watching greatness from one player.

This match was just plain bad. Worst than Federer/Soderling.

Djokovic was very average and did a lot of UE, lost his serve when he was in control.

But Murray was truely awful. 47 UE for 21 winners. That's unbelievable bad for someone like him who hit not a lot of errors usually.

He choked big time once again.

I was very excited before the match up. Now I hardly want the two to be matched up again in the future. And I am not sure I want Murray to be in another GS final.

Yeah hopefully Murray never makes another slam final. If he does make another slam final though I will always put alot of money on him losing, and if he playing anyone in the top 5 put a fortune on it. Easy money.

Djokovic wasn't required to take risks, he just did enough against a very poor opponent. However is in the opposite side of draw to Murray is blessed because if you make the Final you know you got the trophy.

This was an absolute debacle. Murray is abysmal. FEDAL please. Now this idiot Brad Gilbert is on the Nole bandwagon....ugghhh...what a joke.

Murray's performance was bad indeed but it's not like he played some lights out tennis before the finals.

Djokovic just got the job done. The real "match" for him was the one against Federer.

Despite the scoreline, even Berdych gave him much more to fight against.

Completely horrible though it was a joy seeing Murray being crushed. The real final was the Fed-Djokovic match. Even though it was straight sets, it was a longer, more competitive match. Fed played decently (bad serving, though) and Djokovic played out of this world. In this match, Djokovic played his B game but Murray was just worthless. Even the Djokovic-Berdych match was higher quality.

This was worse than anything last year as far as grand slam finals, and those weren't spectacular. We really got spoiled with the 2009 season — the amazing Fed-Nadal match at the AO; the most competitive match in years at a final with the Wimbledon matchup between Fed and (should have won) Roddick; another epic at the U.S. Open with Fed and Del Potro. Even the F.O., the most boring of the four, was significant for Federer completing the career Grand Slam.

I think the message this sends is that Federer needs to get into another damn final.

My favorite matches at the A.O.:

1. Nalbandian-Hewitt (1st round — goes to show you the best tennis may come early.)
2. Federer-Simon (2nd round — Fed finally beats this key nemesis; his performance in the first two sets dazzles.)
3. Djokovic-Federer (Best I've seen Novak play; Fed should have won second set).

WOMEN
1. Schiavone-Kuznetsova (an epic on the women's side).
2. Clijsters-Li Na (Better than the men's final!)
3. Venus injured (Amazing feat to come back and win a set 6-0 with a horrible injury, even with a retirement the next round.)

I really think Murray played one of his worst match since his breakthrough in 2008.

And it has to happen in the final of the AO, where he had his best opportunity ever to win a slam?

It was unforced errors after unforced errors. It never ended. His backhand was amateurish in that match, he totally missed his match.

Even Djokovic started to lose his focus.

Up to 4-4 in the first set, it had so much potential. Once Muz got broken, it was all down hill from there in terms of the quality of the match.

I will go one step further and call it in terms of quality of play the worst major tournament in years.

The slower court and colder weather made for pressing tennis from nearly everyone the entire tournament.

Very few matches with players hitting more winners than unforced errors.

Disappointing, not what we usually see at the AO, it favored defensive play far too much, usually it is close to 50/50 and shotmakers can still hit winners, not this year.

They made a mistake slowing it even more this year, hopefully they learn and bring the speed back to neutral next season.

Had he served better then maybe the match would have opened up.

Djokovic had some lousy service games, Murray couldn't back the breaks with Djokovic pressuring him in almost all his games.

Nole did his part. All of you who think the final was bad should talk to Andy. Dodig played better and took a set off Novak. Andy played so bad and showed no will and effort to win the title...
I voted for "It was great"...

I seriously don't know what eye problems have the people who voted "decent"

I voted 'decent' with my brain, not my eye.
I thought they had some interesting rallies, not a complete borefest but 'decent' since novak got what he deserved with style and grace..

Djokovic played great but because Murray's level was once again so poor it brought the overall quality down.

Before the match, Brilbert gave Murray 14 checkmarks and Djoker 13 checkmarks

There were some great rallies and a few good shots, particularly by Djokovic, but there wasn't the same tension and fluctuation as there would have been in a Fedal final.

After a while, it was actually quite frustrating when they were tussling at deuce for a hold or a break because there was always the inevitability of a Djokovic victory. It just seemed tedious at those points, especially towards the end of the second set.

The thing that really irked me about this final despite some good hitting was the lack of imagination in the play from both.

These courts/balls make for an odd sort of high-energy retrieving tennis with agressive counter-punching as the only practical way to win. - there is a huge bias against all-court play and serve-volley would be almost unfathomable as a match-long strategy.

I much prefer matches where someone who has the courage and ability to go for winners is rewarded but at the AO they basically aren't.

An extremely boring final to watch.

I totally agree, and had courtside tickets for the event... the most uninspiring and boring GS final I have ever seen, I was going to walk out halfway through, but they kept showing shots of Ivanovic so I stayed.

The womens final however was the best womens final I had seen for a long time.

I think it was half decent half bad (second set was bed, first set fine, third set so-so).

Extremely bad finals were Nadal-Fed FO '08 and Nadal-Berdych W '10..

The game was not a monstruous display of awsomeness but then again, Murray's defeated attitude is to blame.

even thou he probably did not want to act or look like that, fact is he did!

Better get used to watching bassline bashing, error drawing tennis for the next few years cause Federer is on the decline and Nadal....well he wont have Rogi to make it more fun. Batman is getting old.

Murray disappointed in a Slam final once again. But how can someone who watched the match say that Djokovic didn't play so well? Djokovic was really scary from the beginning. The first set was very good (until Murray had to serve to stay in the set, of course), but the pressure from Djokovic was terrible. You knew that he was not going to lose that match.

My thoughts exactly...I picked up the match near the end of the 2nd Set and Djokovic was on fire. That was some of the best tennis I've seen. His worst points from that point on were when he tried drop shots.

Djokovic played extremely well, he hit the ball beautifully and his athleticism was just unreal. The first 8 games suggested a slugfest to end all slugfests.

Murray's 1st serve % was too low, and he wasn't able to break through. By the time he was going for his shots, he was doing it a break down, or on his own serve to get back into the game, and neither of these are the best times to try and turn yourself into the aggressor.

But the quality of tennis from Djokovic was excellent, he demoralised his opponent with superior athleticism and ball-striking, so he played a great match, making things hard for Murray, making for a decent final.

I've said it before and I'll say it again I've yet to watch a match where I literally get out of my chair in amazement from the quality of tennis being played. The last real epic match was probably federer vs roddick wimbledon 2009. The match I saw today was a joke and if this is whats in-store in the years to come when federer and nadal aren't in finals of slams then I think I'll take a break from watching tennis.

i agree, it was a terrible final, really need a great final in a slam to light things up again, havn't had a great final since USO 09 really, AO 10 had some great hitting and everything and it was fantastic to watch roger's amazing shotmaking in that match but there was no real drama and the winner was a foregone conclusion, french open was just another demolition with no competition, wimbledon was boring after the first set it was obvious rafa was just going to steamroll, USO final had some really great hitting but after the 3rd set that was it, and today's final was the worst of them all, we really needed a roger-rafa final at this years AO to start things off i think.

Are you biased against Nadal?

The Nadal-Federer RG 2008 final was extremely one sided but Nadal played the best tournament of his carreer, destroying everyone. He was unbeatable that day. It was greatness.

The Nadal-Berdych final was worse than this match? Totally wrong.

Nadal had 29 winners and 21 unforced errors
Berdych had 27 winners and 17 unforced errors

56 winners, 38 unforced errors

Today we had

Djokovic 26 winners and 33 unforced errors
Murray 21 winners and 46 unforced errors

47 winners, 79 unforced errors

The quality of play was much higher in Nadal-Berdych last year.
