Nadal and Aeropro- How can he?

I have used Aeropro for about 3 years, The Cortex I liked and sold when I bought the Gt. Suddenly I found it stiffer, given to mishits and not so solid, specially compared to the Yonex VCore 100 that I bought.

Nevertheless.I have not yet dismissed the Aeropro, maybe Ill use it with multi and gut and see if I like it. But, the Vcore is very solid and has a huge sweetpsot so its going to be tough for the Aeropro to win my heart again.

So, how can Nadal deal with the Aeropro considering its stiffness, small sweetspot and not so solid frame? I know the Aeropro shape is great for spin but the characteristics I mentioned makes me wonder.

Does he customize it to make it much better?

Two words: Magic Underpants

The undies give him magic powers to play with the APD and the trade-off is he has to pull out wedgies all the time.

He uses the original version which is softer, has a good sweetspot and when you had 12 grams more than stable for a professional player.

i use the apdgt and i love it, to me, it feels really comfortable, just because you dont like a raquet, doesnt mean, everybody else will have the same issues with it

Just a hunch, but maybe Nadal , swings slightly faster, doesn't often miss the sweet spot or have to worry about the racquets stiffness because he has better strokes than some of the posters on this board, therefore he doesn't need a racquet with game improvement characteristics.

I personally don't like the racquet, but Nadal's could hardly be called an APD merely because of the HH balance and high SW (couldn't give you exact numbers, but think of Carlos Moya's set-up and you get the idea).

He's been using it for a long time and got the #1 ranking with it. I think it's working for him. You have to keep in mind that racquet choice is very very personal. As a pro he is very consistent so he hits the sweetspot most of the time. Thus the size of the sweetspot isn't as important as it is for somebody like me who shanks a lot.

If I'm reading this right, the v core 100 has a stiffness of 68, while the APD is at 67.

Yes, almost same stiffness but VCore, in my humble opinion, has bigger sweetspot and feels more stable. Maybe the materials from which the racket is made of and the isometric shape has something to do with it.

Dont get me wrong, I am not implying the Yonex is necessarilly better, I am just referring specifically to how I personally view these two rackets" in terms of feel.

Just throwing the specs out there: I think it pretty much is a gen 1 apd. He has a 33cm balance which works work to be right around 4pts HL so it's def not an HH setup. Static weight is 336g and the SW is 344.

Moya's I believe was actually HH-it supposed to be like a club

Ah, I thought that I read (albeit a long time ago, so memory's apparently a bit off) that Nadal also used a set-up similar to Moya's (light static weight, but 10-12 pts HH). My bad.

I have no problems in saying that any Yonex is a hell lot better than any babloblat.
Nadal would get some extra performance switching to yonex.
Also He is one of the best and He played with the same racket all life long, and 12-15 years ago Babolat had much better rackets than they have now, now it is a bamboolat hollow vibrating stiff rackets.

i've often wondered why babolat doesn't make an aeropro drive nadal with no cortex, different paint job, etc. if roddick can have his own pure drive on the market, rafa can have his own aeropro drive on the market.

He's been the premier player wielding the APD since 2004/05. Babolat's had him on the hang tags since then.

Maybe he thinks having a signature frame is too dooshy.

Maybe it's worth hunting down an APD Original (ie, the 1st black pj APD)?

I certainly thought it was an excellent frame, and one that some ppl say has a slightly better feel to it than later models. That said, the APDC is very similar really, and the issue for me was never which version, rather which mods to settle on. For some reason, I found it devilishly hard to pin down a lead set up with the APD/APDC. If it suits you game though, it's a wicked, highly addictive frame.:wink:
