is it me or the 6.0 95

Short story, I play a friend of mine couple times a month on Sunday nights. Usually he beats me pretty comfortably 3 and 4, if I do take a set off him it's a close one.

I usually play with either a pure storm gt or becker london against him. A couple days ago I strung up my old PS 6.0 95 and decided to paly with it against him for gits and shigggles.

I end up beating him 6-0, 6-1. Racquet felt like an extension of my hand. lunge shots were turning defensive shots into offense quickly. All of his power shots were returned back with pace and then some. Was able to place the ball any where in the box and move him around and keep him guessing.

Now I'm perplexed. I usually play with 11 oz racquets close to even balance and now here i'm playing my best I've had for a while with a 12 oz 11 pts headlight 95 in racquet.

Question: 1st off, how awesome is the 6.0 95 and why again did Wilson never expand on this awesome line like it did the 6.1 and 2, can this experience be written to just new honeymoon feel with the racquet or is there something more with this spec I should explore.

Indeed an awesome racquet. Like most manufacturers, they think the tubular construction is better than box which is totally wrong. It's probably more expensive to make the 6.0. Cost is everything these days. The trend (until Donnay) is higher swingweight, thicker, tubular frames with no feel. Terrible.

I always thought Wilson could improve the 6.0 95 by making it 18mm and is touch less flexible in the upper hoop. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing.

It's you + your opponent.
There is no racquet (decent one...not talking about warped woodies, walmart specials and the like) in this world that would make such a difference to go from being always beaten while winning the occasional set to winning a match 6-0, 6-1.
This much variation means it's the people involved...not any change of racquet.
Are you sure he didn't party all night and hardly got any sleep before playing you this time ?? Now THAT might make such a big difference...but not a change of racquet.

I think we have such similiar racquet specs because apparently we think so much alike! ;) Hope you are well Od1n! BHBH

You may just get to see this frame become a reality. There is a rumor afoot that such a frame may be play-tested by RF. :) Just sayin'. ;) BHBH

If he was hungover then he didn't show it. Either way, I feel like I need to play more with this racquet and see where things go, but I can definetly see myself playing with it on a regular basis because it felt so natural to my stroke techniques.

It's possible that the extra weight of the PS gave you a significant amount of extra stability compared to your other shots, and that the ability to return those higher paced shots with pace of your own could have been enough to shake him up.. there were probably shots that he normallly can rely on that failed him, and it's possible he mentally threw in the towel as a result.

That's the strength of the PS95. It's heavy, yet feels like a 10oz frame in hand because it's so HL.

It makes for a very maneuverable stick that allows you to move your opponent around. Unfortunately, it's also a noodle, and when you wan't to just end the point, chances are the ball will come back.

I love my 95 and learned to play on one, but I mainly take it out when semi-coaching of putting around with the GF. So soft and responsive, just no powah!!

The PS 6.0 95 is one of the most awesome racquets ever produced. Why Wilson stopped selling it (or a successor to it) is beyond me as it seems there's plenty of demand for it. I believe some pros and other Wilson sponsored players are still using it under paintjobs so obviously Wilson is still manufacturing it for sponsored players. I think it may also still be available in Japan, so it is still being made, but just not sold elsewhere in the world. :(

BTW, I believe I was the original gung-ho advocate of the PS 6.0 95 Original on this board. :)

Could be a perfect example of finding the right frame for you. As an aside, I'd say that its weight is no coincidence: since force = mass x acceleration, heavier frames let you do more.

Leading up your regular sticks may help get the same result, tho you'll probably need to do some experimentation to see what works for you and your game.

Only thing I can think of that might in theory be comparable to the PS 6.0 95 is the Dunlop 4D Aerogel 200 Tour.

Good luck!

Ha ! You may be right ;).
Thanks for the good wishes...all is great. Hope all is well on your side as well.
I actually bought a used pair of Vantage 95's and am playtesting them currently. They are 350-ish grams with a 320-ish mm balance when ready to play...and with a similar sw to my current racquets. Good racquets...slightly more "oomph" when compared to my Volkls, too bad they are not perfectly matched (slightly different balance) since I bought them used and with slightly different specs.
I'll test some more but they are very good frames...and I might buy 3 new ones with my desired specs as my other frames are growing old by now :).
Tough to live with the costs though...now that they moved the custom business in the US and with the high price and customs taxes + shipping they come out to be quite expensive though...so I need to do some "soul searching" to see if I can justify the price.
Anyway...sorry for the "off-topic message", I've already shared my 2 pence with regards to the topic and I stand by my assumptions. That's not to say that a more extended play test with the new racquet is not a good thing...it might very well be.
Good luck with the search op...

Tears of joy would stream from my face. One can only hope Wilson does the right thing. I need a 4 grip, 20mm or less box beam, 95 inch, stiff racket in my life.

What you need to ask yourself is why in the world will you have this awesome racket sitting in your closet where it don't belong? Why did you gave up on it in the first place? :-?

you're right bp, i do remember you touting it back in the day. and I believe you used it as your main stick til the ncode 90 asian version came out, correct me if i'm wrong.

as far as why i gave up on it in the past....i guess it goes back to the ol' their must be something better out there that's more modern mystique which really is more myth than reality.

OP- just curious, what strings and what tension did you use on the PS 6.0 95? I do agree that the racket is one of the best Wilson has produced. Good luck with it! :)

Yup, that's exactly right. However, every once in a while, I pull out my sole remaining PS 6.0 95 (I used to have 10 of them  ) and take it out to the courts and just about every time, I wonder why I ever switched. That racquet just does everything so well that sometimes I feel I can't miss with it. The spin it produces is also awesome due to its very open string pattern. The feel and control are also incredible and it's actually more powerful than the Asian Tour 90's.

Yup, unfortunately, I know exactly what you mean. :(

I use a hybrid of cyberblue 17 in the mains and Gosen OG sheep micro 17 in the crosses at around 54 lbs. I could probably add a more powerful string in the hybrid but that's the string setup i've been using in my other racquets and it lasts me a good 12 hours of play before the power subsides and it starts to take a toll on my shoulder.

I have played with these for over 18 years!!!! i have tried various other rackets and come back to these as the all round racket

I weighed them againt a KPS88 I have and they were almost the same but the feel is so different

but what you are saying is very true: serious lack of power is the only problem and as age catches up I am now thinking of changing again for this reason not found anything yet though...

never put lead on this racket worth trying, will it give the racket a bit more grunt?

I used to have the "Sampras Autograph" version of this racquet. Had 5 of them. I used to find it superb overall but "vague" at the top of the head so I had a decent chunk of lead at 10&2. I still have one somewhere in the basement... I moved to the PSC6.1 at the time, stayed with that one for 12yrs!

Overall if a new one came out I would be tempted to demo for sure. Pity that they will ruin it with a "BLX" (pun intended!) paintjob!

Everyone who has used and loved the 6.1 95 should check out the pro supex nano energy-it's a clone of the 95, even down to the PWS. I have owned about 5 ps 6.0 95s and about 5 nano energies (down to one of each now) and have never had a problem switching between the two. They go for $120 brand new. Only difference is that the string pattern, while still 16x18, is drilled a bit more open space-wise (it actually matches 6.1 spacing). All other specs are the same.

Gamma also has a few offerings that are nearly identical to the 6.0 95 specs-where Wilson failed to continue the racquet, smaller companies made some excellent sticks in nearly identical veins

After a recent match, I was talking to a Wilson rep' (I cannot say where or who, as he has asked this to not be linked to him), because he was asking me why I am playing with an older racket, and would I be interested in something new from Wilson?

I said sure: "A 6.1 Tour 95, and you'll have me for life".

He told me to "keep my eyes on the horizon". I said "Really!!? For real!!!?"

He said he couldn't say anything more, and said that I could talk about it - but not where or as to who said it.

So...... I don't know, but BHBH's statement lends credibility to the possibility.

It's almost hard to believe Wilson HASN'T done this. I mean, how often have they heard or read this request??

As an aside, I have written Wilson many times - and never ONCE received an answer, on any question. Anyone here ever get an answer?

Start a poll and send them the results?

I don't know.......

The 88 feels and plays nothing like the 95. It's stiffer and a bit of a log to maneuver. I like it but prefer my trusty 95.

As for extra power, Origmarm said it best. The hoop is just too soft and flexible. There's really not much to be done. You can add weight to the hoop but you'll lose maneuverablilty due to increased SW.

If you want something in the same ballpark as the 95, I'd recommend a Prestige Pro. It's whippy like a 95 but has way more power on tap. Also, it's the same head size, it's supposedly a 98 but really it's a 94.

Cheers
