Isospeed Baseline

Anybody ever hit with it? I want a cheap, first-gen type poly that plays well for an hour or two off the stringer that I can throw away after a match, or use it to hit around with (i.e. Monoblast, Super Smash type of string). Does ISB fit that?

This one is awesome. I just got two KPS 88 strung with this string. Spin 17L @ 60lbs. The feeling is really great. I can feel both power and spin are increased compared with full Alpha gut 2000 on LM Prestige Mid@ 60lbs. Meanwhile, it is not as stiff as ALU POWER Rough but rather like some synthetic gut. I really love it. At first I thought it should be some string like Polyfibre Black Venom, but after I searched it on TW, I was shocked by the price!! $39.99 per reel.
Buy it, you won't regret for it.

That doesn't seem like the kind of string I'd like. I want a stiffer string than synthetic gut, and I definitely don't want added power.

FWIW, Jonny S&V on the boards, a stringer and DII player who has tested many different polys, swears by it. Maybe he will chime in soon.

It starts off pretty lively. If you're only going to use it for a couple hours, it's not going to be stiff enough for you. Once it gets broken in and dies I think it feels a lot stiffer and very little power. But if you're looking for a stiff poly, you would probably want to look at the Gosen cheap polys.

A caveat to pizikylin's is the gauge. If you go down to a 16 gauge and string it at high tension, you'll get an even stiffer string bed.

The shortest amount of time Baseline 17L has lasted me is 6 hours of hard hitting (strung as a poly/syn hybrid at 50/54 lbs in a 95si frame). It was for sure dead by that time. At the 2 hour mark the ISB mains were already reluctant to snap back to straight.

I also second bayoozen33's comment that Gosen Polylon ($31.95/reel) is stiffer than ISB.

Try Isospeed Energetic. I am currently playing with that(17g) and really like it. It's also showing good durability for a multi. I tried Alpha Gut 2000 18g before but it was too lively for me. Too soft like a trampoline plus durability was around 6 hours of hitting and I am not a crazy string breaker or anything. The energetic have been great and I am approaching 10 hrs of hitting and it looks they might last another 10. Tension maintenance has been great and they are not too expensive. definitely worth a try.

I've played with Polylon yellow for about an hour before, but I wasn't particularly impressed. It felt very slippery, and it didn't really play very stiff. Is there a difference in colors, and did you guys feel the same way about it?

isospeed baseline is a very soft string and for the first couple of hours you get good control ans spin too, but it also develops some good power. i don't think it fit's your profile.
a stiff string would be luxilon adrenaline - but i don't know if that fits your bill. does not die as the dearer siblings of the house but keeps going until it breaks, which for me is at around 10 hours!

I use a Gosen Natural 17 Polylon. Its pretty much ok. I lowered the tension 10% from my standard in using synthetic. Peformance wise is great...crisp and solid.

In regard to the color, I think its all the same since the manufacturers use dyes to color it.

Yes, this fits your criteria. The differences between Baseline and Polylon, for example, is:

1) The mains don't move.

and

2) There is better feel with Baseline.

I honestly don't know if Baseline IS a 1st generation poly, it feels like a co-poly at the right tension (coming from someone who has used Cyberflash and SPPP extensively).

I don't want it to feel like a co-poly. Co-polys pocket the ball and go through a lot of life cycles over the course of a match, I want the ball to come off my racquet like a board for an hour and a half then cut it out, as opposed to play with it for two hours before it plays how I want it to.

You have an interesting philosophy... Well, I guess you could string it at the 'wrong' tension (since I said it plays like a co-poly at the right tension, for me), EG, tighter.

Try the jaycee method of stringing that is the basis for his stringing technique.

I use ISOSPEED Baseline Control 16 in my Prestige Mids... and it is VERY control oriented. Not sure about stiffness, it's a very comfortable poly. Just try it out, it's only $40 a reel which is a steal IMO.

I use the isb control 16 in all of my racquets and string it at 60#. It never moves, has great control, and depending the racquet great power and pocketing. I can usually paint the lines if I wanted to (+/- 12 inches). I hit very hard with it and haven't broken it yet. At 60# its settled after you finish warming up.

in a k90 it seems really low powered but ridiculously easy to control. almost too much. in my g325's, it's perfect and typical poly. i'm going to hybrid it with gosen sheep 16 in my mg prestige mids.

i just ordered another reel a few days ago.

I own a reel of this string and it is good but it isn't what the OP wants. I also like a stiff, "board like" string bed.

It is just my opinion but I think you want Gosen OG Sheep Micro Synthetic Gut. It is a very stiff syn gut w/o a flexy feel. It'll most certainly last a couple of hours and maybe more while being able to string it more consistent tension wise since it will be easier to work with; not a stiff stringing string. Before I started playing w/ it, I'd never play a syn gut.

If you wanna go a more expensive route, pair it w/ Kevlar mains. If you can handle a board like feel, kevlar won't give you elbow problems. I bought the Ashaway from TW as it is a 720' reel and a 660' reel of white Gosen OG Sheep Micro.

Try the OGSM as you can't go wrong for its price either. Trust me! It is great for a board feeling!

I definitely agree, Gosen OGSM is up my alley in that aspect, but I'd prefer a poly. I'll order a reel of Polylon and if I don't like it, I can put it in the racquets of people I string for, and still turn a profit if I sell it $5 bucks a set. Then I'll look into using OGSM again.

I have Isospeeds too but I only use it for color on the crosses. Not durable at all! Broke in 2 days!

Basically I string these strings for other people for myself I use Solinco Tourbite full or crosses with Solinco Revelation. Silver and Blue combo looks awesome on my racket.

Lol I'm slightly more generous than you xD I helped coached my old high school team and strung their racquets for free (then again I gave them nylon strings and I only had to string like 4-5 racquets all season, but still).

I'll be replacing the strings probably 2-3 times a week, so Polylon will still be extremely cheap, and I have high expectations for Polylon (got the ice color, I hope it plays like ice 8))

Haha well I need to pay for my books and I charge well cheaper than the asian stores.

btw gosen polylon lasts forever. I break tour bites in a month, syn gut in a day, etc. I had gosens on my old racket lasted me 3 months until i switched. They are still on!
