Multifilament Question

I read Mikeler's thread and reviews about his playtests, but I'm wondering about comparing a couple multis in particular:
1. X-one BiPhase
2. NRG2
3. Iso-speed Control 16
4. Head Intellitour 16
The biggest thing is tension maintenance and control, and I will be using a full bed. Any pointers? (I hope Mikeler sees this, he seems to be the multi-guru)

NRG2 will probably be the best if you aren't a string breaker. Technifibre x one is a verrry nice string for about 5 hours then it becomes a rocket launcher.

The best way to tell is to try them yourself.

I'm mostly a baseliner, semi-western grip, and I don't really have any problems generating topspin or power. I'm mainly looking for control and tension maintenance, but some pop would be nice too

I tend to see the phrase " then turns into a racket launcher" about so many strings. Is there a multi that doesn't do that? Some of the older racquets I have I do not use often enough to justify restring them each time I take them out of the closet to hit with them. Probably 2 times a year is how often I hit with them. Sometimes even less than that if the weather is bad enough not to use my ball machine. Not wanting to hijack your thread iMpro. I was just wanted to see if any one of the ones you are interested in would work for me as well. I was looking at some of the ones you mentioned also. I am looking for control and tension maintenance more than anything else. I play an all court game though not much of a baseline basher.

I kinda have a feeling that you would start to have problem generating topspin and got long hit most of the time if you had full bed multi. At least that's from my experience. Full bed multi tends to have severe string movement, that will really decrease spin potential by much.

So for what you're looking for I suggest you have yourself a hybrid setup with poly that has good tension maintenance. You can experiment which suits you well between poly as main (usually more control and spin) or multi as main (more pop and comfort). As for the string selection, we're back to guru Mikeler.

Actually there is a multi that doesn't turn into a rocket launcher and I have been trying to get people on this board to give it a shot but it is so underated and nobody really wants to use it. Everyone loves X1 and NRG2 and though they do have good qualities, people just seem to focus too much on the brand name.

The multi I am referring to is Kirschbaum Touch MultiFiber. This is one of my favorites and people seem to just ignore this string for whatever reason. I have used X1, NRG2, Xcel Power, and will get a reel of Kirschbaum Touch Multifiber instead.

That's a pre-packaged hybrid made for older racquets.
Still works in the right application, though.
You may be thinking of the RipControl component that has been reviewed and has as many fans as detractors!

Instead of paying a premium for X1, consider using that money for Babolat Xcel since it holds tension better. Many people like NRG2 but I found it a chore to generate spin with it. Isospeed Control just did not impress me at all. Head Intellitour like its cousin Head RIP Control is a very unique string that is hard to compare with other strings out there.

I know you like the crisp strings while I like the softer ones so that is the only reason I have not tried it yet because I do trust your reviews.

I think Touch Multifiber is the Rodney Dangerfield of multis, just don't get much respect around here

. X1 and NRG2 are pretty crispy strings and Kirschbaum given the price, should be consider by those who want something in the same range.

I think the reason that people are hesitant to try it is that it costs over $14 a set, and Kirschbaum is known almost exclusively for their polyester strings. Technifibre, on the other hand, is known almost exclusively for its multifilament strings.

I'd try you out in Tecnifibre's XR3 and Wilson's NXT *OS* and see which you liked.

An economy choice is, still, Tecnifibre's MultiFeel...

I have recently switched to full multi mysefl and have found the Tourna irradated 17G to be a great full bed multi and a great cross for a poly hybrid. Excellent tenison maintenance and afrily low powered for a multi. I currently use it in 18 x 20 string beds and can get a good 6 weeks out it (playing twice a week). IMO, a very overlooked string that is a overall good value.

If you use multi as mains - aren't they gonna move as much as full bed multi?
I have only tried poly as mains in a hybrid setup (Ultimate Duo: Alu Power and NXT16) and it seemed like it had more pop than full bed of multi.

From my experience full multi is still the worst in that regard. I've tried full-bed Wilson Hollow Core Pro (not a true multi though) then hybrid it with Luxilon Adrenaline (both combinations), and gotta say full-bed had the most movement while multi-main was a little worse then poly-main.

This last Monday I just tried full-bed Prince Premier Softlex, it moved like my Hollow Core did. I cut it right away and installed it in hybrid setup as cross (with Polystar Energy as main). Though there was noticeable movement but much lesser than the full-bed one.

I kinda have a feeling that good-powered poly produce popness quite close to multi but with dampened feeling and more control. However, the better spin-potential of poly makes the ball lands shorter.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Interesting. Right now I use Alu Power mains and they almost don't move at all with NXT 16 crosses in my BLX 90. I did hit with K gut 16 (same frame) and then I switched to the one with Ultimate Duo and I noticed the ball would fly longer using the same force. Maybe because I don't hit with much topspin, but I do read that poly in mains will give less power, I just noticed the opposite.
