Milos Raonic recovering from successful hip surgery

Hip surgery? Yikes. At least it's from a definite incident and not degenerative like Hewitt's problems. Fingers crossed for a full recovery for the lad.

What was the incident that caused the need for surgery?

He's very young to be already experiencing problems with his hip.Doesn't bode well for a long career methinks!

As a Canadian who has hoped for years we would get a world class player, I hope he recovers from this injury. But that sounds serious for someone his age. May not bode well for the future.

Same here...what a bummer to wake up to this news

It might be a serious injury but he's still pretty young, he'll probably bounce back and make a full recovery. He seems like a sensible enough guy to me, he'll probably take it easy when he returns.

slipping on the fing grass (grass had bunches of players hitting the decks of all courts at wimby this year)

We don't know how minor and we'll never be told.

Well, the fact that he was on a stationary bike within a day or two and that he's expecting to be back on court in six weeks would seem to indicate it wasn't terribly serious. I agree that it would be nice if they'd release a little more information so there wasn't all this speculation but I prefer to think as positively as them. Besides, his girlfriend just arrived there tonight so I think it's likely he can move fairly well. ;)

Slipping on grass is pretty normal. Happened to Roddick in the final 09. Unfortunately this is more serious and I hope he recovers fully.

He's not Canadian. That's like claiming Sharapova as an "American." Technically, maybe, but come on.

Are you joking?

95% of Canadians are not native to Canada. Almost all of the people in our country that people call "natives" to Canada came from Europe at one time or another. Spending your childhood from 3 years old to now is long enough to deem someone from that country.

The minute you leave your home country to move to a "better place" you have essentially said that your birth country has failed you in some way or another (employment, war, persecution, you name it), and should be far more proud of the opportunities the country you have moved to has given you.

I don't mean to move off track, but the mentality you have shown is exactly what is wrong with my country (maybe yours?). Immigrants who come here for their own benefit, and feel no loyalty to the country that has bettered their life.

There is a BIG difference. Sharapova lives in US but still competes under Russia's flag.
Milos came to Canada with his parents as a 3 y old child and is a canadian citizen Period.
I am also canadian although came to Canada at 33y, but I am a canadian citizen.

Maybe this is a life-threatening injury that will never allow Mr. Milos to walk again, let alone play tennis. Let's keep our fingers crossed (for the recovery, of course). It's always refreshing to have a new kid on the block, especially now that we've had the same people for the past 4-5 years+.

Raonic is going to play a dangerous Japanese player, who recently in DC beat Devvarman:

Y. SUGITA
S. DEVVARMAN
6-3 6-4 7-5

So, caveat.

I don't see Milos having much trouble. He should get through that match and has a pretty good shot at taking out Nadal in the second round.

we all know what happened to Guga after hip surgery. This sugery is usually a Career ender.

I don't think Milos had major hip surgery though. Plus he is a lot younger than Guga was when he had to have his surgery. I think he will recover just fine.

are you serious? i bet raonic is not rly in form and lacks match practise now. remember he lost to weintraub in davis cup in straights

id be impressed if raonic wins that easily ...

Ok I guess given your ability to predict I say it's pretty clear now that either Milos will lose in 1st round (most likely) or he will be totally destroyed in the 2nd by Nadal.

I am serious. The reason being is because of Nadal's ros. Milos can serve bomb after bomb on this fast hardcourt, and since Nadal has served so badly,it would not be shocking if there was an upset here.

I agree. No need to get excited and jump to conclusions just yet. Milosh did lose to both Dudi Sela and Amir Weintraub, guys that are hovering in the 100 and 500 ranges. We shall see tonight how well Milosh handles three setters.

Match is on 11PM EST I believe

He'll probably destroy the Japanese player.
Then he'll lose to Nadal.
But I like Raonic. He's got great potential.

It was as I expected, tough:

M. Raonic 6 6 7
Y. Sugita 7 3 6

but good to have a victory under one's belt.

He also played in doubles:

Fin. P. Andujar
M. Raonic 5 7 6

A. Murray
J. Murray 7 6 10

A bit too much for the beginning.

Raonic doesn't expect to win this tourney..what he wants is match play and if Nadal beats him he will have 3 matches under his belt.

Clarky, do you spend your whole waking life running around to different threads trying to find places where you can prove how stupid you are when it comes to Nadal? Milos won't take out Nadal. His serve will give Rafa a bit of trouble as it does every other opponent but that's about it. Rafa in straights. And I'm a big fan of Raonic.

A Rafy win in straights seems like the most logical answer. Raonic could maybe, maybe sneak out a set but this is a Rafa win regardless. Nadal would need to be playing bad, I mean Montreal-Cincinnati bad for Raonic to score an upset.

Thats good to hear Milos recovering. He needs to add some muscle so he can play some real tennis.

Just kidding but it would help his movement, power etc. to get into the top 20 soon.

If you knew anything about Nadal you would know that he struggles big time with big servers due to his lousy court positioning on the return. Like it or not Milos is going to trouble him just based on that alone. Not to mention his own serve is in the gutter right now. Nadal himself has said multiple times that he hates playing big servers, and that they give him no rhythm. I guess you know more about Nadal than Nadal himself.
