I've been trying to find the type of instructor I want lately but it doesn't seem to be working out. I've had 5 lessons in the last 3 weeks from 3 different instructors but they are all kind of the same. They are good and I'm learning some things and getting a good work out but I'm looking for someone who can help me improve the technical aspects of my strokes.
The lessons I've been taking from the 3 different guys are pretty much the same: volleys, drills, some groundstroke rallies and then serves but they all pretty much are centered on how to set up a point and strategy. That's great and all and I'll probably still take those kinds of lessons but I"ve been hitting the ball poorly lately and not one of these guys have tried to correct my strokes even once. And during the lessons I"m always asking questions like 'how do i improve that shot because i always put that shot in the net' or 'how's my follow through on that shot because I don't feel i'm doing it right' or 'i cant seem to hit down the line on that last shot. are my feet positioned wrong?' or 'Do i have the correct contact point on my open stance forehand'? etc etc. and all i get in response are 'You're thinking too much' or 'just hit it' or 'don't worry about that.'
Today I asked my instructor why is it that when i use a western grip i get a lot more power than when i use my regular sw grip and does that mean im doing something wrong with my sw because it should have more power than a W grip ... is my swing wrong for a SW grip? not pronating correctly? etc He just said 'Don't use a western'. I repeated the same question 3 times and he just wouldnt give me any data besides 'A Western grip has too much spin'. It was frustrating.
So the point of this thread is does anyone know of an instructor in San Diego that will teach me how to actually improve my ball striking? Are there any MTM instructors in San Diego? I want someone who will look at the mechanics of my swing and wrist movement and pronation and shoulder rotation and footwork etc and tell me what to change or what I'm doing wrong ot a better way to do this and that and feed me balls etc.
Anyone? Help me please!
Thanks.
