Anyone else having a problem with Volkl Organix grommets?

I have a new Organix 10 (325 g) on its first string job, and 2 of the grommets have cracked already.

If memory serves right, none of my previous Volkls had grommet problems like this.

Just wondering whether anyone else is having this issue with the Organix line.

Were they properly seated deep into the frame in the first string job? If not, all grommets stress.

If there are others who have had this issue, then Volkl should/will be made aware.

my x8s grommets cracked rather quickly as well comparing to my old PDRs. I do think Volkl should make it better.

BTW TM, any more news about x9?

They are still working out the bugs for a Feb release. Expect a traditional 9: 16x19, thicker than an X10, weghing between the X10 325 and 295. The XV1 is already out; I got one last night. Read my XV1 thread if interested.

No cracked grommets on my X10 325s. However, I know that my grommets were properly seated prior to their first string jobs. Not sure if it's the grommets or not seating the grommets properly...

All seated deep and proper.

I will see how my other frame fares in the next month or so.

Mine cracked around 4th string job. Way too soon.

One of the grommets has cracked on my second Organix 10 frame.

I fear I will be spending a lot of money and installation time on new grommets with these racquets.

Seems like Volkl is the new Babolat in terms of miserable quality control. A grommet on the PB-8 (315) had to be replaced soon after I got the thing.

Contacted Volkl for you. They have not received one warrantee for grommets in any X-Frame. The comment from them was that these frames' grommets are no different than other frame lines.

If you believe that you have a lemon, contact them, your stringer, or your retailer. You maybe at a disadvantage if you are a home-stringer/non-professional.

Thanks for informing Volkl, but I don't think people usually file warranty claims for cracked grommets

The grommet cracks are developing in 2 racquets purchased from 2 different retailers, so I don't think I got a lemon. We can wait and see if we hear more reports of this problem. In this thread alone, we have 3 posters besides myself who are experiencing this problem.

I already placed an order with TW. As my luck would have it, the shipment for the particular grommets has been delayed.

Some tubing will have to do until the replacement grommets arrive.

No prob....which grommet holes went on you?

On the second racquet, it is H6.

The other racquet, I don't have on me.

That's a tie-off knot hole. If your stringer tied-off there and the grommet split, without a doubt, that's his bad. Tied-off correctly, no tie-off hole grommets break, from any company. But, it's really easy to tie-off badly and split the grommet.

I do a 2-piece, and that particular hole isn't used for a tie-off, although the grommet on the other side is.

H6 and H7 are definitely tie-off holes for two-piece. The bottom tie-off for the last cross installed on the bottom, is on the third cross from the bottom.

If your grommet split at H6 without tying-off a knot and it was seated properly during the first string job, I have no idea why it would break, unless, you torqued the string with your hand as you were installing a main in the direction towards the outside of the frame.

The H7's are being used on both sides for tying off the mains. H6 is being used only on one side for tying the cross.

The one that broke is the H6 that is not being shared.

The grommet is angled even though the main goes down straight. My guess is that the plastic material used is probably too brittle to withstand the force being applied at an angle.

Ever use the other H6 as your starting cross?

No, this is only the second string job for this frame.

Then it was damaged while inserting into the frame holes at the factory, damaged on its way to the racquet manufacturer, damaged in transit, or it was defective coming out of it's mold. You can try warrantee, but they would most likely just install a new $6.00 grommet set for you.

o10 295 grommets are over 6 months old with over 12 restrings and no problems. I replaced the original grommets myself but only because I wanted to put lead under the bumper. I have experienced nothing out of the ordinary with the grommets. Quality seems as good as any other grommets I have used.

I tend to replace grommets every 6 to 12 months as the bumper gaurd and the knot grommets are usually pretty worn by then. I do this for all brands of rackets that I have own and not just for my O10s.

On my O10 325, one H5 grommet tube (which is not even a tie-off hole) is cracked. I have not strung the frame myself yet.

^^ One more report of damage.

So far, 2 posters have reported that the grommets for the 295g version of Organix 10 have no problems at all.

My frustration with Organix 10 (325g) grommets continues.

It has been nearly 2 months since I ordered grommets from TW.

At first, ETA was supposed to be about a week, then a delay, another delay, yet another, and so on.

Interesting. I have noticed some split grommets on my X10 325. I will look into this more closely when I have a chance.

It seems that these are not really made for 2 piece stringing. I string all my racquets 2 piece.

X10 325

i have had mine strung 3 times in the short time i have had mine getting the tension right but use it it as a backup racquet mostly. No problems here.

Missed this thread on the deterioration of Volkl quality, which obviously presaged its financial difficulties and franchise teminaion so you better get your grommets while you can.

Organix 325 - received in July - from TWE. Approximately 45 hours of use and twice restrung … each time – strung at one piece by pro-stringer (He’s stringing all my Volkl sticks in last 6 years – C9, DNX9).

Last week I detected cracks at H6 & H7 … I was hoping not to face that, but …

I followed that thread in the past, and because of the shared here, together with the stick I ordered a spare grommet set. Two times I received sets for 295 (later, TWE discovered a problem in there system) and on the end … set for 325 and now, I have three sets …

At least the bumper guard has to be replaced, but seems to me when compare the 325's and the 295's by size and hole positioning, that I can use this one from 295 also.

What do you think about that, guys? Are these bumpers the same?

I don't know if the 325 bumpers and the 295 bumpers are compatible. Since you have them already, you can try installing them. Remember, heat is your friend.

In the future, if you don't want the hassle of replacing the entire bumper and grommet sets, perhaps changing individual grommets is the best method of combating this problem.

You can buy the grommet grinders like this:
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpage-3MMGG.html

and purchase individual grommets like this:

Hope this helps.

It has been awhile since anyone has commented on this. I demoed the X10 325 last week and it was awesome. Wondering if these grommet issues have persisted, or if it was ever addressed.

Thanks.

I'm curious as well. Was considering demoing the racquet, but might hold off if there are some QC problems.

I've had both my 325 strung twice each and a 295 strung twice as well my a local coach and have not seen any of these cracks people have seen.

Bummer. Thought I would demo the X10 (325) once more before buying and when I took it from the box 8 of the individual grommets were cracked. very sad as I love playing this racquet but would hate to deal with this if there are other options. Is it okay to play with a racquet with these cracked grommets?
