Cavs have a nice young nucleus for building long-term success...glad they are getting over the superstar-departure hangover so soon. They just took the Clips down a notch w/o Kylie having to carry them.

The Cavs do have some young talent.

But I dont what to think of the Clippers. Chris Paul is obviously really good. But Blake is maybe the most one dimensiol player I have ever seen. Half the time he looks lost on defense and has no idea about the concept of spacing on either end of floor. He can power dunk with the best of them. But what else is he good at?

4-0 Spurs 1st time in history I think. Made beating a pretty solid pacers team look easy. They play offense so well as a team. They make the extra pass to hit the open man underneath. Shot the three well play team defense. Really fun to watch the game played so well on a team level.

I am so glad we are following the Spurs blueprint. Its the best way to sustain long term success with a small market team.

And now everyone gets to see what Jacque Vaughn did for SA : Mainly help design their gorgeous offense that we now run as well.

~The Knickerbockers~ <-- now THAT's keepin' it "classy" ;-)

Knicks-104 - Miami Heat 84
Knicks 100 - Phila 76'ers 84
Knicks 110 - @Phila 76'ers 88

OW!!! Double-digit Beatdown City.

Melo & the Senior Citizens playing "team D" (inc. Melo no less!), moving the ball on offense and shooting lights out out from '3'

That's all Folks!!!

The Brooklyn Jay-Z's (the NYC JV) spit the bit big time vs. the Minnesota Albino Wolves minus Love & Rubio, blowing a 22 point lead at home and losing big going away....

Is Melo motivated to put in an entire seaons worth of work. One of his issues last season was under Dantoni the system had him taking too many midrange jumpers. Mid Range Jumpers are the least effective shots to take. you step back 2 or 3 more feet you can extra point for a shot that aint that much tougher to make.

Knicks are looking pretty good so far. I might have to go watch them play in Philly whenthey come to town.

Nets will be mediocre I think. but at least they won the opener :)

Think I may have to go check out the Nets this friday when they come to town. I can not wait for the drunken chorus of boos that will rain down upon them all game.

Melo is always beasting after playing for Team USA. Whether it's the extra work/play in the summer or just motivation post "dream team" success it seems to be working :) Good for the Knicks, about time for them to make some noise again.

LA loses again. I'm back and forth on Brown. I want to defend the guy bc of the beating he's getting from archair experts like the ones on here, but the offense they're running just isn't efficient. Running through Dwight when he's not 100% physically isn't working. Neither is Kobe but he still has the attack dog in him and should be P&Ring with Dwight all game as primary ball handler.

Oh and LA's bench is apparently 29th of 30 in the NBA so please stop it with how 'great' their bench is. Devin Ebanks, Jordan HIll, Darius Morris, and old man Jamison w/ no backup PG due to Nash's injury does not a great bench make.

I don't think running the offense through Dwight is a good strategy, period. Dwight Howard is not offensively polished to demand a double team in my opinion. Yes, if he gets good positioning and he's deep in the paint, he'll just maul the next person over and dunk, but how often does that happen?

Also, Howard is not a good passer so even IF he gets doubled, I'm not worried about him kicking the ball out to the right player for the open shot/cutter.

Mike Brown, stop playing Kobe 40+ minutes this early in the season. The competitor is going to keep going (and he can), but it's the coach's job to restrict the player and plan for the games ahead.

And look at Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett ballin'! Rondo is throwing dimes left and right, and the aged Garnett is still posting up double doubles!

To critique Brown you have to be a coach, player, analyst now? I played b-ball all my life and even if i didn't i would tell you that Brown sucks. Lakers are 1-14 in their last 15 games and last place in the West. His "new" brilliant idea is to play MWP as a backup SG LOL. Is this serious life? Meeks (number one spot up shooter in the whole NBA) can't backup Kobe now?

Dwight is not a threat on Pick and Rolls because the defender does not have to repect the jump shot. If you dont respect the jump shot, it makes the roll part kinda hard for the offense.

You can use Duncan on the high screen becasue he is money on those jumpers from the top of the key.

Whats killin LA right now is the free throw shooting. And I dont think its going to get better.

Nash leaves Pheonix and the greatest training staff in the world and instantly fractures his leg. those guys in Pheonix must have a secret they wont let anyone else in on :)

Whas he done in the playoffs? He's terrible once teams can scheme for him.

in a 7 gamer if the lakers think they can beat anyone with Howard in P&R game the wont get past the 2d round.

Brown is a bad coach. SVG completely owned him when we beat cleveland in the playoffs. He never used LBJ as well as he could have, and now he is running a Princeton offense - the SAME offense that Brian Hill ran when we had Dwight as a rookie. It failed miserably. It will fail again.

The Magic may suck now, but at least we run a motion offense. It is so much tougher to defend and focuses on ball movement instead of isos or throwing the ball down low and praying for something good to happen.

Howard is the best C in the game, but he would be dominant if his ego was not so huge. He is not a guy you run an offense through. Everyone kisses his butt so he stays on their team so they all force feed it, and end up losing.

He made it to the finals being the only star. Now he has Kobe, Pau and Steve... good luck leaving one of them wide open ;)

The year he made it to the finals though Jameer was an all-star, Rashard was an all star and Hedo won MIP.

I get what you are saying, I agree. I just don't think the lakers have the best coach to utilize those players.

I said pick and roll, not pick and pop. Let Dwight set the pick, and then run to the paint since he's the most athletic big man in the NBA. It works for Marcin Gortat in PHX, and he's not a jump shooter either. Maybe a bit simplistic, but it's certainly better than having Dwight post up while Kobe just stands in the corner 20 ft away from the ball.

He's not a threat on pick and roll:confused: He made his career on it, same with Nash. They're two best guys in the NBA using it... but Lakers roll with princton... at least for now

Exactly. I know I'm not a basketball genius, but the pick and roll is an effective strategy regardless of whether the big man can shoot or not. Kobe can still beat pretty much anyone off the dribble in the NBA, and if they collapse on Kobe it leaves Dwight to run to the paint and throw it down.

Whas he done in the playoffs? He's terrible once teams can scheme for him.

Not saying it should be their main offense, but they should certainly be working it in more than they are right now. Hell why not have it as their main offense? Pick and rolls w/ Howard and P&R/Pick and Pop with Gasol would be a hell of a lot better than what they're doing right now. Also, most of the offenses in the NBA are predicated on pick plays. So no, it's not farfetched to say that LA should be working it in more and make the D make the decision instead of the slow it down dump it in to Dwight so that the D can key on him and force him into tough shots.

If Howard is the one setting the picks all that has to happen is you back off Dwight dont let him come barging into the lane. You stop the ball handler let him pass to Dwight then Hack dwight and put him on the line or let him brick the jumper.

It works in regular season becuase teams dont see it and scheme as precise, plus you get to play the sorry teams. They could run picks through Pau and set a back screen for Dwight to cut from.

The only benefit the lakers would get from picks with howard ist he mismtach if the D switches. But then they just hack him and put him on the line. I dont the lakers have enough Spot up shooters like those ORL teams had when Turk averaged 20-6-6 for 2008 and Rashard was deadeye.

The lakers need to give Howard the ball to keep him happy, but he should realisticly be the 4th option when all those guys are healty. Maybe 3rd option if nash decides to be strictly assist man.

Not saying it should be their primary option, but it should be part of their offense and not non existant like it is now. If teams want to key on Dwight, then run double screens w/ Dwight/Pau. It's not rocket science. Make the D make decisions, which the Princeton offense/giving it to Dwight in the post doesn't do. Most times when Dwight is doubled in the post, like you said they don't have good enough shooters and Dwight isn't good enough of a passer to make the D regret it.

Nash if he does come back healthy definitely is good enough to make those decisions and run that offense. It's an insult to say he wouldn't be. He just ran that last year in PHX and made Marcin Gortat a legitimate offensive force. And of course Gortat <<<<<<<< Dwight.

Chicago Bulls are passing the ball beautifully!

OKC: throw the ball into Kevin Durant and everybody get out of the way. Or keep it with the black hole that is Russell Westbrook and get out of the way.

Come on Russell Westbrook, it's only the 3rd quarter and you're 5/19!

And there's no reason why a player like Kirk Hinrich is blowing by Russell Westbrook. A healthy Derrick Rose? Yes, all day every day, but Kirk Hinrich?! Come on man.

I knew Brown was on the hot seat, but 5 games in he's canned? Folks are quite impatient in La-la land...haha I had a feeling he would be gone this year, but having egos like Kobe and Dwight was too much from the beginning.

Brown's offense wasn't getting much for points, but their lack of a bench, poor 3-pt shooting, and lack of cohesion on offense and defense also contributed. Love or hate Brown, but I don't like the decision to can him. Who's going to step in and come up with solutions on the fly? These egomaniacs need to nut up, play, and stop acting like princesses.

Like I said- Brown sucks. The Princeton offense was doomed from the start.

I guarantee Dwight and Kobe's camps got together and forced this. That is why Kobe lied and said how much he loves Brown. These stars think they can fool the public because they have no respect for anyone but themselves.

Agree totally. The only people on earth who lie more than politicians are pro athletes. I dont even know why reporters ask them questions anymore because they lie right to therir faces and the reporters just walk away. Has any athlete in any sport been a part of 2 coaches getting fired in only a 5 game span like Howard has now?

Wait, weren't you guys all just bashing Brown left and right? Now instead of applauding LA you're bashing Kobe and Dwight like they're the first stars to get a coach fired in the history of sports?

Mike Browns fired 5 games into the season. Man, Dwights getting guys fired left and right. I think D"Antoni may be the guy they bring in.

Would be fun seeing them play his high speed offense :) judging by how poor the Lakers have been getting back and defending though, i'm not sure it would improve them all that much.

I wonder if Mike Brown will ever be a guest analyst for TNT Inside the NBA. Especially after the crew went nuts on him after the first game, and really brought his offensive scheme into question.

D'Antoni will have Steve Nash at his disposal. That will benefit them immensely. I think the Lakers will buy into his system should he decide to change it much more than they did that of Mike Brown.

I think they will too, that and playing more with each other will help, they've looked a bit unsure of what each other will do at times which is understandable.

I'm not sure they will have what it takes defensively though, the Thunder and Spurs, possibly even the Clippers will take advantage of that in the playoffs.

Haha, I remember the TNT crew clowning on Mike Brown on their fast breaks:

"They had 6 fast break points. You know how hard it is to only get 6 fast break points? That is hard to do."

There's a saying that goes:

If a game is won/lost within 3 points, it was the players' game.

If a game is won/lost outside of 10+ points, it was the coaches' game.

Well, Warriors get to test the coachless Laker's tonight. Small helter skelter ball vs big slow guys inside, so it depends on W's outside shooting vs Laker's big's down low.
I think OKC and Chicago might exploit the big slow guys, but not the Warriors without Rush.

Mike D'Antoni will coach the Lakers... and go.

Memphis Grizzles sort of owned the Miami Heat. How come no one ever talks about them? In my opinion, I think they have the best front court with Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol. And Rudy Gay, such an underrated superstar. They've been my favorite team to watch in the playoffs, I just hope they can go deep soon and do some damage!

Landing a superstar changes that...we've had our 15 minutes of fame in Orlando twice and national attention was paid us on our attempts for the O'Brien Trophy. Ditto for Salt Lake when Malone/Stockton crested. Currently, OKC gets attention due to Durant.

Memphis will get attention without the one pure superstar if they can consistently make the playoffs and go deep, in not all the way.

Memphis has to prove it self in the playoffs. Get past the second round and stay healthy. Until then people wont pay attention.

Brown should have never been hired, so Kudos to the Lakers for acting quick. Alot of teams would sit and wait 25-30 games. The lakers knew they had a favorable schedule and didnt want brown to get a little 4 or 5 game win streak. So they canned him.

I think the Lakers were wise to bring in Mike D as opposed to PJ. Only because of Steve Nash. In the triangle PG are disposable. Nash would be miserable playing in that system. Making the trade to get him pointless. Mike will atleast run an offense the players will like to run. The whole team will get plenty of shots and nash will sorta be a player coach in getting the rest of the guys up to speed.

Im very interested in the MikeD Lakers. MikeD has a horrible track record in the playoffs, but he never had a roster like this.

Once again though, he coaches a very up tempo style. That is difficult to execute with older players and a thin bench. I know they got him because his relationship with Nash and they needed a quick fix. But let's see if the Lakers can run his offense and sustain that pace all year.

Not more chatter on the Lakers situation? I'm not a big fan of D'Antoni, you have to play D at some point to win a title, period. Not sure if Dwight and Kobe can do it on their own on D. This is a lost season for LA, just gotta hope Dwight doesn't screw them over and leave them at the altar.

Speaking of, Bynum injured - again. Shows why teams weren't willing to take the risk on him as the franchise player.

And Westbrook still is a chucker - 25 shots to 22 for Durant in barely beating Detroit. The West is a mess, outside of San Antonio.
