I have the utmost respect for Fed but how much longer can he play at this level, where the game is changing around him?
I'd say until 2014 he will be a top ten player. After that he might start to dip.
I think it comes down to motivation.
When Fed is really motivated, he will do everything in his power preparation wise to be ready for a match and a tournament. I think once Fed regained #1 you saw a little waning of his motivation.
It's hard to say how motivated Fed will be next year...I could see him trying to really pick his spots interms of peaking next year(even more then normal) and imo with his chances of winning grand slams dwindling I could see Fed going "all in" for another push at Wimbeldon.
To be honest what I could see next year is Fed winning 3 or 4 tournaments rather then 6. Still winning one slam if he moves heaven and earth to win Wimbly and ending up in the hi 50's for match wins. The days of winning 70 plus matches probably ended this season.
Still a stellar potential 2013 for the Fed though. Ending the year in 2nd or 3rd.
I agree, i just dont see him being able to keep up with joker and Nadal and even Murray now who is stepping up his game.
He can keep up with Nadal who hasn't even played in nearly 6 months. Nadal is further past his prime than Fed is,and is no threat to Fed right now. It's the other two he needs to worry about, but as long as he still has the passion and desire to play then let him. I think it's going to take Fed actually retiring for a lot of people to realize just how much he's going to be missed. That's why it annoys me when people say he should retire after every match he loses. One day he will actually quit, and they'll regret it.

...and Nadal?
Where have you been? Nadal is not in the equation anymore.
Despite winning Wimbledon, I just don't see how Federer can win another major. I never expected him to win Wimbledon, and tbh some things really fell into place and Murray underperformed in the final, Djokovic was unimpressive in the semifinals, etc...but it's tennis and the unpredictable happens, so Fed always has that going for him. But in terms of projecting major results, how is he going to beat Djokovic or Nadal or Murray at any of the hardcourt majors, or Djokovic or Nadal at the French Open? I don't see it ever happening, which leaves Wimbledon, and I don't feel comfortable making a call on that one in the spring.
I can see Federer up two sets and three match points at the OZ Open against Djokovic in the final, and then failing to convert on any of them and getting crushed from there on out. That sounds like vintage Fed...

he will be back next season
Yeah, he will be back...and he will be good enuf to take over top 3 by some miracle after being away for 7 months.

Also a very good point, he is very committed, i think he wont lose Wimbledon unless for an injury that's his court nobody will take that from him. But i do believe he will pick and choose where he wants to put in 100%

Federer is a very good HC player.
How is he going to beat Djokovic and Murray? Murray is definitely beatable. As is Djokovic, if Federer has a good day.
.
In a best of 3, sure. In a best of 5, anywhere else than grass, that's very questionable.
He is done actually i can start to see fed getting out of top 10 and fading thereafter and retired after 2013 us open. I would be surprised if he wins any masters 1000 or 500 for that matter in '13 (highly unlikely) and upcoming AO dont even start with that he will be rosoled.
Federer didn't have to beat Nadal to win the FO. He may not have to beat Djokovic either if he's gonna have to win a Hardcourt Slam. Not saying he will, but it's definitely possible. And it's not like Federer didn't have matchpoints against Djokovic at US Open 2011 & 2010.

But Fed is getting older and I definitely think he will have to beat Djoko, Murray, Berd, Nadal in slams next year. He was very lucky in 2009 at RG. He's not gonna have that luck often especially now that Djoko and maybe Murray have become more consistent.
Which non-top 10 player is going to beat Fed next year? To drop out of the top 10 you have to start losing against guys like Simon, Dolgopolov, Monaco etc. Highly unlikely.
I think Fed will play 2 more years.
I think he can keep up for another year. But playing many tournaments got him into this form, whereas playing many tournaments in the end also got him back out of form a little bit. A lot also depends on how many fast surfaces there are around. Without the roof, basically all four Slams were a bit too slow for him. Roger needs a bit of pace to work with to be able to beat the top guys.
Anyway, I think next year will be fine. Maybe even win a Slam. After that it'll get tougher and tougher. I think with his serve and forehand on a good day, as well as improved volleying skills, he'll still be a threat, but not as much as he is now. I see an Agassi like career if he wants to play like that. Some early exits, but also 1 or two Slam semis/finals or even a win very late in his career. The guy is so extremely talented. He'll become streakier and streakier, but when he gets redhot there will always be few players that can keep up.
I'll be optimistic: He'll win a Slam in 2013, make 1 slam final in 2014. And then in 2015 and 16 he'll win a final Slam to finish at 19, as well as another olympic appearance (and hopefully a medal in 1 of three disciplines) in Rio
Yeah but in 2014 it will be more tough for him and the competition is getting better and better and the courts getting slower and slower , we did see his frustration when he lost to Nole in WTF this year inspite of him being attacking for most part. So i think that frustration will get the worst of him going further. 2012 was a good year for him he won a slam and 3 or 4 masters 1000, but dont expect him to repeat the same in '13 , it would be pretty darn tough.
I think you're being too optimistic. I like that

I am optimistic. esp. in the slam predicition. I think he'll become streakier and his fans will have to swallow some bad tournaments in the coming years. But he won't use his flashes of brilliance, plus a very reliable service game.
Yeah, true. I wonder when his first pre-quarters loss at a Slam (in 10 years?) will be. Can't be too far away, surely. Maybe an year.
A lot in that sense depends on the draw as well. I mean, last couple of years he could have lost to Simon at the AO11, Benneteau at Wimbledon12 (surely!), and even if Goffin goes 2-0 up at RG, who knows.
I think he can lose to anyone, but if I had to bet without knowing the draw, I'd still pick Fed to make all 4 QF. But sure, on a bad day there are guys ranked 12-16 and below he can lose to. Gasquet on clay, Haas on clay or grass, Karlovic or Isner on any surface in which they take away his racquet and sneak a couple of tiebreaks.
Also, if he PLAYS all the Slams next year, he'll equal Wayne Fereira's 56 straight Slam appearances.
I think he'll definitely play every Slam till Wimbledon 2014. I wouldn't be too surprised if he retires anytime after that, but I would be if he retires any sooner.
Imagine being at the match Fed retires at . That would be crazy epic and sad at the same time.
If it's a final he wins, it would be epic
I can hardly watch a match Fed loses, let alone his last.
