Jack Sock racquet

Is Jack Sock still using an AeroStorm, with the new 2013 AeroPro paint job or has he switched to something else? Is Babolat coming out with a replacement for the AeroStorm line? Thoughts?

I just strung yesterday, 4 aero storm tours with the new aero pro drive paint job. So could be that he is using the same frame.

Does he use lux Alu, strung in the 40lbs?

he tried out the alu power when we recommended it to him in cincinnatti. He was stringing at 38. Not sure if he is still using it, although from the photo,, it does seem to be alu power. The tension fluctuates between 38-40.

So... Drak, you're stringing down under??? Awesome!

No. I'm currently stringing at a futures in Florida. I strung for him last year at the same futures, Delray ATP, and at Cincy with Priority One.

You can generate more spin at lower tension when using poly.
+1. And (the equivalent of) millions of dollars of instruction and practice time. People who've never been to an ATP event and stood at the practice courts can't imagine the work they put on their shots.

I just checked my strings on my 90s and they're 33.7 pounds..
My balls go flying.
I have no idea how the tension fell from 51 to 33.7 in less than two weeks..

Wow if he was using the Aeropro or the Aerostorm no wonder he needed elbow surgery. For a young professional especially one with a two handed backhand having elbow problems is extremely rare that tells me his racquet really must of played a huge part. I saw him play last night and he was still wearing an elbow brace and appeared to be using the Aeropro Drive. This poor guy is getting awful advice on tennis racquets.

lulwut? Aerostorm is a super comfortable and solid feeling racquet. It was one of the best racquets Babolat made.

You're using 2 week old poly which has lost a big portion of it's elasticity therefore your snapback is way less than a freshly strung stick at 38lbs. Plus you don't swing nearly as fast as a pro who can put plenty of spin on the ball to maintain control. Your shots, compared to a pro, are about as flat as a pancake. Some casual players think they put a lot of spin on the ball. They don't.

+1. The AS is just terrific. 40LBS??? WTF, is really low. But I want to try it:razz:. I thought he is using the standard, not the tour. In the pics looks like the regular one.

its a dense string pattern 16x20. 40lbs about perfect for this stick. Futures players I practice with are stringing even under 40lbs. Depending what type of poly and if its a full bed or hybrid.

Devilito. How much of difference is there between a 16X19 and a 16x20 stringbed? Because I have never heard someone call a 16X19 a dense string pattern. Does one more cross string really make that big of difference?

16x18 is dense in the PS85. The string pattern is not as important as the string spacing. IMO, 'relatively speaking' the Aero Storm Tour is a dense string pattern. If you want specific numbers and measurements, I have none. Plus I've hit with it and RPM blast at 40lbs feels amazing in it and provides plenty of control as long as you have a fast swing and can control the ball with spin. If you hit flat like a pancake then there might be issues.

Nope, I will take your word for it. Thanks for the reply.

Man, now I'm itching to find this frame and try it out. Is it easy to generate pop on serves with it like it is with the pure and aeropro drives?

What are you using now Sid? Just a random aside, but you have to try out the POG Longbody from TW. IMO it is the GOAT racquet, it's a 100 sq players racquet that is extended too! The feel is crazy, with a head size that is still the same as a PD or APD. There is a big difference on the serve as well, I can see why Chang used an extended frame in the 90's.

I'm using the Head YT Prestige Pro. Really solid racquet from all areas.

I have heard a lot of good things about the POG. I just never tried it because I have never used an extended racket, I don't know if I would be able to adjust. I have very fast swings on forehand and serve. Was it a seamless transition for you going from a traditional racket to that one?

It's only an extra inch, wasn't too big of a difference. The Prestige is a solid racquet, I was used to the Pure Drive when I was trying it out so it was a bit of a different feel, but to me the POG is even more of a player's racquet than the Prestige. The extended racquet gives you more "tip speed", which can help give you more spin and pace as well as the obvious serving benefits. I think it's worth trying out, demo it from TW and just go out with a ball machine or a really solid hitting partner for a couple hours to get used to the extra inch. GOATs Safin and Nalbandian used this racquet for a while, so it's def worth trying out :)

Yo Josh.....
Aren't you now using an IGYoutecRadMid?
I have a Prince03SharkOS extended (1/2") that serves maybe another 3 mph faster than anything I've used to hit with you.
It's almost PDR like in flat first serve, but I haven't dialed in my 2nd serves with it yet, having used it 5 times in the past 4 months.

I am using that these days, I used to use a Pure Drive a while ago, when I was trying out a few other racquets (including the Prestige). Demoing the POG extended this week, pretty sick :) Might make the jump, it has made a difference on my serve consistency and my groundstroke topspin.

OH GREAT!
Just what I need to face, a more powerful serve and a more powerful forehand ..
Isn't SW gonna be kinda high for your fast swings?

It took some getting used to, I'm a decently strong young guy though, I can adjust for it.

great racquet. ONly downside I found was in the return game. Too slow to maneuver, but loved it in all other aspects of the game.
