Nadal vs some French bub

I didn't realize his clay record was his best either. And he did well at the AO.

Vamos, Rafa. Watch out for the Chardy.

Chardy is the first real test for Nadal. Very dangerous player and very Rosol-like at times. One thing Nadal has got going for him is Chardy's quite weak backhand. A good old lefty FH vs righty BH pounding is in the make. But if Chardy is able to perturb Rafa's gameplan, we might see a surprising result.

I think Nadal shook a bit of rust off last game. I dont see how he'd lose a set against Chardy.

Hmm the first mini test for Nadal. But I still pick him in 3. He's still a lock for the title, his first loss will probably be against Ferrer/Almagro/Wawa in Sao Paulo/Acapulco

Chardy is a far better player than Rosol!

!?

You got to be joking if you can't tell the difference between grass and clay.
The first event Rafa played in 2006 (after his 2005 injury break) was Marseille and he lost in the semi but that was indoor hard. I believe he's gonna make both finals on clay (singles and doubles).
ETA: in 2009, he came back in Canada and lost in quarter to Delpo. Once again, if you think Nadal on hard = Nadal on clay, you haven't been paying attention.

What does any of that have to do with the fact that Chardy is a far better player than Rosol, which is exactly what I said, word for word.

It has to do with your implication that Chardy will give a tougher match to Rafa than Rosol could but once again, this is clay.

I never said Chardy would give Nadal a tougher match than Rosol did at Wimbledon. Go back and look at the posts. All I said was that he is a far better player than Rosol.

And if you actually look at the posts, I didn't even say Chardy will beat Nadal. I said it will be a close match and that I wouldn't be at all surprised if Chardy does beat him.

And for the record, I am well aware of the difference between grass and clay thanks

Chardy's forehand style reminds me of Soderling's. If he makes little unforced errors and stays aggressive and not let nadal stay too long in the rallies, he will beat Nadal.

Chardy could give Nadal some trouble. I'll be surprised if he actually wins, but not as surprised as I would have been, say, last year.

Chardy has the potential to hit Nadal off the court but I don't think he'll be able to sustain that level for an entire match. There will be a couple close sets and he may even take one but I don't see him being able to finish Nadal off by any means.

Chardy can be dangerous with his forehand but he has an average backhand (a very good slice though) so Nadal will exploit that. Nadal in 2.

This is very SLOW clay. Chardy's power won't bother Rafa at all. Who do you think will win if Federer played Rafa today instead of Chardy ?

I don't think it's playing that slow. It doesn't matter anyway because with the way Nadal is moving any 3.0 mug could hit through him.

What ? You are saying Nadal isn't moving well ?? if he lost a step then he is toast. no way he can defend his French open title.

Difference is Soderling actually had a great backhand as well and wasn't prone to blasting 20 UEs in a row at times.

Better watch out, I hear Chardy just got bumped up to 3.5.

I hope he does. Rosol has barely won anything outside of Davis Cup (and that with Berdych's help) since that one match haters love when he had luck and Rafa's bad knees on his side.

Exactly!

Chardy is twice the player rosol is!

Chardy pummeling forehands...into the net with the lucky forehand managing to reach the service line. :)

I see that Rafa has been watching videos of me serving. Three doubles in one game.

Wasnt there some idiot that said Nadal would lose in double bagels to anyone ranked 30 an dup?

No there is some idiot fan that didn't understand what I said, I said if he plays like the first match he would be double beagle, he is playing much better. I said last match already that that was the nadal I was expecting to see. This nadal shouldn't have problems winning, but he is still 80% and as I said at 80% this tournaments are a walk in the park for nadal, so try to get your fanaticism aside and read what people say.
