What's a good classic racquet to use in high school?

I'm not a huge fan of the racquets that we have today because idk. I always felt the old racquets gave me a good feeling due to being influenced by my late uncle haha. I'm only a sophomore high school student playing in jv and I'm strong enough to use wooden racquets but I need to get ready for varsity soon. What Racquet do you guys recommend?
Here's a list of racquets that have caught my eye I've compiled:
POG 110
Dunlop Max 200g
Arthur Ashe Competition Model 1
Prince Precision Mono
Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 Graphite Kevlar
Jack Kramer Pro Staff Wilson

Most of those racquets have 85 square inch heads which make hitting the sweetspot difficult. It also makes the POG 110 a stranger on the list.

Do you want a smaller racquet?

I agree w/ VSBabolat but might consider the POG 90 aka midplus (which is really a 93) if you wanted smaller racquets. If you wanted larger racquets like the POG 110 (which is really 107), I'd go with the POG or look into buying used from the auction site or even this site the Wilson Sting Largehead which is in the 110 or 107 range.

All of these racquets have relative heft and are low powered compared to today's frames. You should also keep in mind the Head Radical line as they are low powered and play like older racquets and can be purchased new/used at good prices too.

the old rackets are not gonna work. get a modern one.

old rackets are for old farts who play weekend doubles.

Old farts and for 8 of the ATP Top 10, who all play with paintjobs of racquets designed in the 80s or 90s.

I love the premise behind your question. It shows an appreciation for the game and some of it's history. But honestly, aren't you probably reaching a part of your life where you want to win as much as you can? I'm not saying you can't do it with an old players racquet, but wouldn't it make more sense to get the best racquet possible for your game? Odds are its not an old school 85 sq.in frame.

But if you're dead set on playing with something old, I've got a 13 year old Wilson Pro Staff Classic 6.1 with 4-5/8 grip in great shape I'll just give you. I didn't use it much befor switching to the N/K6.1 for the next decade because they made some noticeable improvements to them.

I'd compromise a find a Volkl Tour 10 in mid with a mid+ for those days...well, you know, THOSE days. :) Actually, for THOSE days, a Tour 9 would be perfect. Very solid with a little vibration protection.

I don't think he realised Sampras, Agassi and come to think of it Murray (and arguably Federer) basically use/used old rackets. And are well known for being rubbish at singles and not hitting the ball very hard:?

If you're willing to give it a good home, hit with it ocassionally (and it needs a grip) I'll send it to you free of charge. Just send me your address and I'll drop it in the mail when I can.

What is your swing speed/style? If it is long and aggressive, try the PK Black Ace 90.
I have my HS #1 playing one now instead of his Kfactor. His serve has more pop, his volleys are better and his strokes are no longer flying like they used to. I have him using Big Hitter Silver at 48lbs.

So, my top HS players that have switched from modern sticks and improved are all silly old farts?

Things for the OP to consider:

What weight of racket do you feel you could handle? (some of these older ones can have some heft)

What sort of head size do you prefer?

If I wanted an older style racket to play with and could handle the weight, I would choose the new PS85 or POG Mid or OS from TW.

Nice thread though and nice appreciation of wanting a classic looking racket. Kudos.

Many pro players are using some version of a P.S. 6.1 Classic. Fusker was very kind to give such a nice racket. The one on the list that would work fine for you would be the POG 110. (POG 90/93 would also, but wasn't on the list). It is a bit different playing with an oversize racket, though.

Original ProStaff 6.0 95 might strike a nice balance between old and new...if you can find one.

Thank you sir ! I much appreciate the racquet you gave me. Now I just needa put on a grip, some new grommets and i'm set for the end of season :D. Quick question will a prostaff 6.1 95 grommets work on a prostaff 6.1 classic 95?

Not sure about the grommets. You might want to post in the stringing forum. Hope you like the racquet - when you hit her pure, she's a scalpel.

Just curious how you're liking the racquet. I won't be offended if its not a great stick for you, but hopefully it's given you some enjoyment. I played (and broke) a bunch of PS Classic 6.1 racquets back in the day and am glad this last one has a chance to get some court time

you can play varsity with a Woody, just string it with poly, and go to a smaller grip. get a donnay borg pro. Actually I lengthed my woodies to 27.5 and I get better pop and can fend off most players with it.
Nothing like winning a match with a wooden racket.

It's amazing ! I got new grommets for em and I recently just popped the strings that were on the racquet and placed new ones :). It feels nice for my volleys and my overall play is just better. There are things I didn't know I could do with the racquet. I appreciate it so much that you bestowed upon me your experience with this racquet. Thank you :D.
