High School Tennis

Not trying to hi-jack your thread OP... I'm just very curious as to what everyone thinks the NTRP level would be for these players.

3.5 maybe 4.0
Really? I think it's problematic to put adult NTRPs on kids... they're typically much quicker, more movement yet with inexplicable errors. imo these kids easily have 4.5 type strokes and rallies... and 3.0 moments of concentration.

These guys are easily 4.0 and likely lower 4.5. They would give a 4.0 team in my area that went to regionals a pretty good run for there money.

Gage Brymer is 5.5 according to the guidelines based on his ranking. The Marina #1 is at least a strong 4.5 to 5.0. The other guys look like 4.5s.

I think it's been discussed here before. The range at the HS level is huge. Totally depends on the area, the school etc etc.

I've seen the top local HS boys (in my area) practicing on courts next to me a number of times. They would be 4.5's minimum. The best would be 5.0's easy.

My guess is that these #1 and #2 players are not the best players at their schools (SoCal beach community HSs). The best players at those locations don't play HS tennis.

Top high school players can easily be 4.5-5.0 level, in men's competition.
In womens, you can find 6.0 level high school women's players.

The Youtube video descriptions say Marina is a Blue Chip player. That should answer the NTRP questions.

Not really. Just got a scholarship to UCLA, won the 18's Easter Bowl, and is Number 2 national in the 18's.

Per USTA

6.0 to 7.0
You have had intensive training for national tournament competition at the junior and collegiate levels and have obtained a sectional and/or national ranking.

Not the Brymer vid....the windy match with the Marina/Los Al kids

do you really think they are better than a 4.0? 4.5?

The guy who made the round of 32 at the Easter Bowl?

Gage is closer to a 7.0 then a 5.0.

The guy that made it to the round of 32 at Easter Bowl is probably a 6.0.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL! These kids are all 5.0+. Brymer is a 6.0, maybe even a 6.5. (wiping away tears of laughter) Some of these comments are beyond belief. No adult club player could compete with nationally ranked juniors, let alone blue chips. (still wiping away tears of laughter)

Gage Brymer looks like a real talent. Definitely 5.5+, I'd say 6.0.

The other guy isn't quite as good but would be a solid D1 player, probably 5.5.

I hope the people saying 4.5 are kidding. Gage hits consistently with way more pace and spin than 5.0s.

Okay, first of all, blue chips do not play at the 5.0 level. They play at the 6.0 level, and someone like Gage is probably a 6.5. He would do quite well at futures. The kids in the first vid, while not blue chips, are still 5.0+. They hit the ball very well, and remember, it's very windy out there. Yes, I realize they're not playing 6.0 tennis, but they still would wipe the floor with any club players out there.

Um, no. The players who beat Richard Pham have world rankings anywhere from 500 to 1500. These guys are far from "club players." And they didn't whip him; he played them pretty close. Find his results and Google the guys who beat him. Club tennis and tournament tennis are two different worlds. I don't care what you see on video; the tournament guys are on a whole different level.

Oh my...this is what happens when I get curious. I have to come to Gavna's defense on this one...The first video: "Marina (2) vs Los Al (1) singles", is certainly not 5.0 level play for Florida, California, or Texas. Some parts of the US yes, other parts no. Despite the fact the a hurricane was giving birth to a tornado while they were playing, I still don't believe that they are 5.0. Whats strange is that most of the posters are claiming 5.0+, even 6.0!

In my opinion, this is a strong 5.5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrhYnuZFn3M. I would be very curious to see what you think of this video Gavna. Does this represent a 5.5 or perhaps 6.0 in your area?

Anyway yea. These guys look exactly what they are...highschool players. If we are being honest I dont think they are better than 4.5. Actually when i saw them miss some of the shots they did and after seeing certain technique my original impression was 4.0.

Hey but if playing a tournament makes you automatically 5.5 or 6.0. Then theres not arguing with that logic right?

We are being honest. I've seen Gage play, I'm a 5.0 player, and he is insanely good. He didn't just "play" a tournament, he won the 18's Easter Bowl.

He just received a scholarship to arguably the Number1 team in the country (Ucla). He's a 4.5?

Again i'm NOT talking about Gage - but no he's not a 7.0 yet.......6.0 currently -

7.0 are players at the ATP level.......he's not there yet.

My 3.5 to 4.0 comment is for the guys playing in the OTHER vid....windy day - chubby kid in Red vs the skinny one in lt blue - one of those made it at Easter Bowl????
There are 2 los al vids

you claim that the kids in the first vid (Marina 2 v Los Al 1) are blue chip - and play at 5.0 level......hahahahaha in what universe.

and I never said Club players.......a top 20 open adult player in Texas, Florida and California (most are mid to late 20's in age) - some who play futures would kill these guys (except someone like brymer)

Top 20 open is kinda 5 star-blue chip imo

Not the parents. Parents dont watch high school haha

I guess it was seen as a ******y move

I guess. That seems like a stupid reason to not call it and the coaches should look at their players a little more closely especially when the players are calling their teammates names.
