It's not the Surface at Wimbledon

“The court preparation has been to exactly the same meticulous standard as in previous years and it is well known that grass surfaces tend to be more lush at the start of an event. The factual evidence, which is independently checked, is that the courts are almost identical to last year, as dry and firm as they should be, and we expect them to continue to play to their usual high quality.”

The probem with the "surface" at Wimbledon is not that it varies from year to year, but that the outside (non-show) courts get beat up by qualies so on week one, play like week two. The show courts look all green and pretty (and slippery) the first week and lead to either injuries or holding back from full-on play to prevent injury.

Its funny, a couple of years ago Nadals forehand would have been over Darcis head, the courts dried in the back so much it looked like cracked concrete. Last year all that changed and look at who is and is not winning, My thought was because of the Olympics last year they didnt prep as much or roll as much, but this year the balls syil not coming up. Maybe they got their head iut of their arse, and realized this surface is supposed to play different, and is a brief moment in scheduling. Its about time they listened to TT threads...

Qualies is played at the Bank of England sports ground, not at the AELTC.

OK, maybe it isn't because of qualies, maybe it is the AELTC members playing league doubles, but the aerial shots of the grounds shows the outside courts looking like the second week, in the first week.

Its the conditions most likely, not the preparation of the courts. Wet cool conditions=fast and slick playing surface.

Wimbledon's official stance on court speed is that they never changed it.

They denied it initially and later admitted more soil packing but still claim
court speed is same throughout the history of Wimbledon.

Who believes it now?

My guess is that Wimbledon started tweaking from last year.

It's so obvious this year that it makes no sense to deny the evidence

People are playing S&V!!! And they're winning!!!

We lost Nadal, Federer, Sharapova, Ivanovic, and Wozniacki.

I can't imagine how this could be a good thing for the tournament.

This year's Wimbledon is even more boring than usual. The British and their traditions! Long live grass corts, and the queen!

Just to be clear; this is not the case. All of the courts are in pristine condition from day 1 of the championships. I've been to Wimbledon about 4 times on the first Monday and I have seen it for myself.

There are not important losses, even for the WTA.

All Sharapova was gonna do was lose to Williams(if she even made it that far, from 2007-2012 she made it past the 4R ONCE), Ivanovic is a mental midget(hasn't achieved anything of note since 2008, 5 years ago) and Wozniacki(who also never made it past 4R here) has been a constant disappointment despite being hyped to no end.

sorry again, but members or guests are not allowed to play on the championship courts for the 6 weeks before the Championships start, more than enough time to prepare the courts. I was there in late April/early May and the outside courts and show courts showed no difference in condition and looked as smooth as snooker tables!
