Clemson Tiger tennis

Also I'm still wondering whether they will overturn the Clemson vs FSU result from a year ago, I remember being guaranteed that the result would be reversed.

Odd line-up to me leaving Harrington, Madden and Kennedy on the singles side line.

They may be taking PC lightly, it is a double-header today with Gardner-Webb later. Although PC isn't any worse than G-Webb. I don't think all 3 should have sat out this one.

Yea. Taking them lightly was my guess and they figured they could play lower guys in the line-up to get them playing time and still win There could be other reasons like resting some who have minor injuries. Who knows........

classic live scoring gaffe. Bueno actually won at #1 not lost. I think that the person doing live stats should actually slightly understand tennis, but that's never been a requirement anywhere in the country.

Typical. The scoring for the Wagland v Salisbury match from yesterday showed Wagland the winner until it was finally changed about 15 minutes ago.

ended up with the 6-1 win. Lett lost at 6 so he doesn't look likely to be in the top 6 again anytime soon. Fernando Sala-Sanchez with the best win of the day and good that Bueno did pull it out in the end.

Harrington and Maden are resting against Gardner-Webb (same LiveStats link as posted earlier). Clemson winning easily.

The NCAA limits how many match days any player can play. Many teams schedule more matches than that, so the coach has to rotate who sits out. It goes by calendar days, not dual matches, so sitting out the first match of a double-header and then playing the second would not accomplish the purpose. By sitting out both matches today, Harrington and Maden are saved for more important matches later. But other players will have to take a turn sitting out. Presumably Clemson has some more matches scheduled against lesser opponents later in the season.

yes much easier time vs Gardner-Webb. And that's true what you said Clark. This season's schedule is a lot softer than last year. There are many more tomato can matches.

I really don't know what to expect in the match tomorrow vs Illinois. Illinois is far more experienced and a more set team for sure. But I'm not really sure how good guys like Brain Page and Alex Jesse are.

Doubles should definitely go to Illinois tomorrow and Hitzlik should bear Harrington at 1. Kopinski should also beat Augusto-Bueno because Kopinski is a pretty good player.DomMaden could beat Gosea at #2. Yannick Maden easily beat Gosea last year in a fall events so maybe Dom can get some tips from his brother. 4-6 is a complete mystery to me. You can't really tell anything about Robert Dudley yet so no telling how he will fair against Bazarnik. When all the dust settles it will probably be a tight Illinois win.

What is important for the Tigers this weekend is to beat one of the two Big Ten teams. If they lose to Illinois then beating a weaker Michigan is a must in the consolations.

Hoping Michigan can beat Ole Miss. If Clemson beats Illinois(35% chance) then I like the matchup with Michigan more than a matchup with Ole Miss.

I guess the Clemson men's tennis twitter decided to take this match off.

And the live scores hasn't updated in forever. It's ok though. It's probably over.

And the biggest beatdown of the day comes outta Oxford as Illinois fusticates Clemson. The 3 I door courts was bad. I knew doubles,1 and 3 were big Illinois advantages today. We maybe could have made if competitive at 4-6 but we will never know. Sucks that those guys didnt get a chance to play at all. The big surprise was Dom Maden being beat so easily.

send me a private message, the score sounds worse than how he actually played

Ole Miss tomorrow will be tough. Better chance in doubles as Ole Miss isn't as strong as Illinois in that department. We MUST get to courts 4-6. It's where Ole Miss is weakest. The 3 court system will again be a disadvantage to Clemson. Harrington will have another tough one this time vs Scholtz. Maden and Augusto must perform better and extend matches.

Sala had triple match point at 5-4 and apparently was called on a 2nd serve foot fault at 40-30 but then cracked an ace on the next point to give Clemson the big win!

Augusto and Maden had great bounce back wins yesterday vs Ole Miss. Each taking care of their ranked opponent easily. Doubles was also quite impressive. The new team at #3 looks good.

Good to see the freshman Sala finish the match (on an ace). That will boost his confidence.

I don't see any excuses in that story. That fact is the No. 2 guy (William Kallberg) was the best competitor on the team last year, but he suffered a serious concussion late in the fall and was out for at least a month. He is still not back to playing shape. Another thing he stated was Ole Miss' inexperience at the bottom. That's a fact. The No. 5 guy played his first dual matches this weekend and the No. 6 guy had not been in that situation before either. Those are not excuses just the facts. And they only one of six tiebreakers on the weekend and not many deciding points either. Those are the facts. What would you have liked him to say.

I understand the injury thing, but hey he was good enough to be listed in the line-up.

And yes we all hate the new format but every player and team has to deal with it, Chadwick chalked up losing to being "unlucky". Then he mentions how they are focused on the SEC so you know they really weren't that invested in this match or this weekend.

Inexperienced at 5 and 6. Gowda was winning when the match was abandoned so obviously he wasn't the issue and at #6 that was Sala's 4th ever college dual match and first in an even remotely pressured situation so he was even less experienced than Wilder.

I know Chadwick is just trying to forget the loss and get his team to move on but still sounds like a lot of excuses. He didn't commend Clemson or Michigan once.

Re: Chadwick

Actually, he did commend Michigan.

“Michigan is a fine indoor team,” head coach Billy Chadwick said. “It comes down to the fact that they played two tiebreakers better than we did in Vinod’s match, and they came away with the victory."

somebody is sore. so he is saying that if they played outdoors, they would have won.

Ole Miss beat them indoors two years ago in the second round of the NCAAs, so doubt that is what he was saying. But there is a huge difference in outdoors and indoors, and some teams are better indoors.

Michigan was very, very scrappy. Lots of fighters on the team.
I was honestly surprised at how close they played Illinois to be honest judging by what I saw on Saturday. They will do some good things with their willingness to keep fighting.

And you would not have thought that after the loss of King. On paper they don't look too strong but it appears they could be almost as good as last year.

I've planned out the spring with the matches I am tentatively going to go to. (Something could come up of course)

Feb 1: Alabama at Texas
Feb 14: Indoor nationals (maybe, this is 50/50)
Feb 28: Florida at Texas A&M
March 7: FSU at Texas
March 26: Oklahoma at Texas
April 16: Texas at Baylor

Will you be at the UIW v St Mary's match on Friday Jan 31st?

I forgot about that one! The ones I listed are the ones I will be traveling too. I will go to nearly every UIW game. So yes I will be there tomorrow. Are you going?
