We've had several threads with allegories made between tennis players and wrestlers so I want to take the discussion to this section and explore the fandom here. Personally, I started watching pro wrestling in the early 90's when WcW was in its zenith. My favourite wrestlers are Scott Hall, Malenko, Benoit, Jericho and The Undertaker.

What do you think about the younger generation? What do you miss?

Boy have several seats. We've discussed wrestling in GPPD before you came, and they'll be more after we're all gone. It's never bothered anyone and isn't half as bad as the constant trolling and mudslinging. You have a great day.

Well for your favorites, Scott Hall is immensely underrated. He has the best punch of all time. Always snaps and looks devastating :twisted: I was watching a classic Malenko match from WCW yesterday. He's easily one of the 10 best technical wrestlers of all time..... Undertaker goes without saying.

Original Four Horsemen were a m e n a c e. Who would you pit them against in a battle of the ages for the best 4v4 of all time?

For me, there is nothing better than mid-80s rasslin. I am from the south, so I grew up on the WCW/Turner/Crockett promotions. They toured regularly where I lived so I got to see them in person many times.

I loved the original Four Horsemen feuds (Flair, Blanchard, Ole and Arn Anderson). Ric Flair was my favorite. I miss all those story lines from back then. You had dusty Rhodes, magnum ta, the road warriors, midnight express, rock n roll express, the russians and the Garvins.

The NWO period in the late 90s was good too, but for me nothing stacks up against the 80s.

Some of my favorites are Ricky the Dragon Steamboat, Jimmy Superfly Snuka, Kevin von Erich, Bret the Hitman Hart, and Chris Benoit (Too bad Benoit's career ended the way it did).

For tag teams, I sort of liked Strikeforce but my favorite was probably the Road Warriors.

yea, i watched around the late 80's and remember most of what you're talking about.

does anyone remember the weird chick wrestling that used to come on at the time :confused:

the one female wrestler that comes to mind now is the very large Hawaiian girl; that was crazy...

My favorite moment was by far the Hogan Heel Turn. I was huge into wrestling at that time. Almost considered training to become one.

Made a video in high school where we acted a scene from McBeth pro wrestling style. if you go on youtube it should be there. Just search for hollywood9826. Probably a couple videos of me hitting softballs and the wrestling video we did infront of my buddies shed.

The Rock, Undertaker, Kane, Triple H, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, RVD, Batista, Booker T (too many)...after John Cena (he was the Prototype before he was John Cena AND before that he was the Cyborg) I totally stopped watching, too old for this.:)

I liked the Bushwhackers, Macho Man Randy Savage, Junk Yard Dog, Rowdy Roddy Piper, and Jesse "The Body" Ventura.

I stopped watching sometime after the Hitman Montreal incident.

I tuned in once in a while after that, but the best days are gone.

I loved watching the promo between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels for I think there second Wrestlemania in a row. It had the Placebo song "running up that hill" as the music....

Weirdest Wrestlers and managers: Doink. Saw in person before he made first t.v appearance. He was walking around the audience like a robot. Pretty cool clown.

The Mummy. An actual mummy that was brought from "the pyramids of Egypt". In Ohio Valleyey Wrestling, which included Jerry "The King" Lawler, Bill "Superstar" Dundee, Tojo Yayomoto. The mummy came out all stiffed legged with arms outstretched. Great.

Paul Bearer was a great manager. The mouth of the south.

Favorite wrestling bimbo:Scary Sherry. Saw a live match where the Ultimate Warrior ripped her dress off while she was trying to climb out of a cage. Cool.:)

The Rock and Roll Express, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson...I hated those wankers and even pulled for the Andersons and Russians against them. Wouldn't you know it, I was bartending in college and in walk the R and R Express...nicest guys ever and much bigger than I thought. I go 6'4" and 230# or so and felt small. Ricky Morton was rocking that towhead mullet like nobody's business.

I think so. I remember Bobby Eaton having a couple of different partners. I went to my first pro wrasslin' match as a young kid, probably 7 or 8. My Dad was talking to his buddy, a town policeman working the event, after the matches ended and I can remember seeing Paul Jones (old school) and the heels and faces leaving in the same vehicles after the match. My Dad just said "See son, I told you this s**t was fake". :) I haven't watched a minute of pro wrasslin' since I was in junior high, so not up on the new stuff.

HBK and Taker were my fav's....I grew up during the Attitude Era, so great.

The last wrestling match I got into was the HHH vs Taker match a few years ago at WrestleMania when it was dubbed End of an Era...felt like the last bit of my childhood dying

Just heard that fake comment from my grandson. That only the UFC was real. Turned 12 last week

Oh man......staying up late to watch "Saturday Night's Main Event"....hahaha

Jake the Snake, The Rockers, great stuff.

Kinda lost a little interest when I got my hands on a VHS tape of Royce Gracie @ UFC 1....

But the 90's Attitude Era was great with The Rock, Stone Cold. Had a g/f whose family loved WWF and had a box decoder so I was over to watch all the PPVs for free :oops:

But loved ECW.....Sabu, RVD, Taz, the Eliminators....Joey Styles "OH MY GOD!!""

Saw a few live events at the Elk's lodge on Queens Blvd.....place smelled like weed all the time, lol....

Grew out of it as I became more aware of the predetermined results, plus became more involved in MMA (UFC, Pride)...

But great memories....

Haha! Excellent! Did it register, back in the day, that Ultimate Warrior wasn't well mentally? Or did everyone think it's part of the gimmick?

I haven't watched any wrestling for months now. Not much time left over with the job and my son occupying me most of the time. Is there someone you think I should check out? That 'Swiss' guy has nice moves. Reminds me of Chris Masters somewhat.

Bray Wyatt for sure. Bray vs Daniel Bryan at the 2014 Royal Rumble is a great example. It's probably on youtube. I have the WWE network though, it's got every WCW, WWE and ECW ppv in history on demand and also classic raw, smackdown eps etc, for 9.99 a month.

Ahhh, sounds nice. Will be cool to introduce my kid to wrestling one day. He'll be like "Dad, don't you know that's fake?" lol

Best debut for me was Razor Ramone's.

Will have to think about the retirement. Probably Roddy Piper's.

Thought it was just part of the act. Lost interest in wrestling a few years after he "retired". Seeing those videos he posted within the past couple of years,on YouTube was kinda of sad. Not sure what all was going on with Ultimate Warrior, but seemed extremely paranoid and anxious. Angry.

Looked like he still lifted heavily till the day he died. Looked all puffed up from steroids.

Side effects were ignored I bet. Still bothers me how the industry swept the problem under the carpet.

I was quite young when I saw Masked Kane's debut in 1997. Lets just say I was starstrucked and scared at the same time. After a while though, I ended up loving Kane and the Brothers of Destruction were the main act I wanted to see all the time.

Ric Flairs retirement was nice. Its right up there for me...

I've been a fan since the late 80s, so I've seen quite a bit.

Best Debut, The Undertaker at Survivor Series 1990, although I didn't see it until months later. Chris Jericho is up there because I saw that (almost live) Raw used to be shown here on Friday, no internet at home to spoil me, even though it was obvious Jericho was y2j. The big red hasbeen ''get off mv tv'' Machine, Kane is memorable. Hard to choose just one.

My favorite feud is Bret Hart vs Steve Austin ( my GOAT) Bret might have hated where the WWF was going with the attitude era, but he played such a big part in getting Austin to the top. I loved this. Sad how it all turned out for him, but at least he did come back in the end.

I've never been a Flair fan, but this retirement was epic. I'm going to go with HBK for one simple reason, he retired at the top and never came back to have a match, so he retired and actually stayed retired.

Yeah, I was amazed when I heard a Kate Bush track for a WWE hype video. Nice cover by Placebo.

The match didn't disappoint either, although I thought their first match at Wrestlemania 25 was a little better.

LOL. We use to call my cousin Ted Dibiase, looked just like him. Remember his bodyguard Virgil, who also did a bit of wrestling.

Other wrestlers: The Zambouy Express, Honkeytonk Man, uhh, what was the fat white guy with the green tongues name...couldn't speak.lol. Anybody remember "The Genius", who originally was Leaping Lanny I believe. The Iron Shiek and Sergeant Slaughter had some interesting battles. Hulk Hogan barking out that his "guns" would take out any Scud missile. Brutus the barber Beefcake, Jake the Snake. Good times. :)
