I realize I am late to the party, but I am an enthusiastic new member of the users club here. I found one hanging on the used rack at my local pro shop. I think they priced it so cheap because it looked a little beat up, but it had a really nice string job that caught my eye. First hit = Wow! I have never felt so comfortable so quickly with a frame and love this thing. My previous pet frames were a microgel prestige pro and an IG prestige MP. The pro one adds just enough power and is slightly lighter and feels just as stable as the Prestiges, which is amazing. Super fun stick.

Colowhisper, do you play the 16*19 or the 18*20 version? I find the 16*19 version to be a bit too powerful, and the 18*20 one maybe more comparable to the Prestige MP.

16x19, I haven't tried the 18x20. But I am starting to need a little more power and a little less weight to keep up with the younger bucks, so it feels just right to me. I've tried lots of sticks but never found that Prestige MP solidness in powerful frame before.

Nice man, congratz! Cosmetic wise: it looks awesome! Could you make a comparison to your old stick?

and are you planning on customizing it?

Hee Zouphie ;-)

I have only had one training session with it so far... so I cannot make a very elaborate comparison. The things I can compare are;

serves - my dear jesus this thing serves like a beast. I was always happy with the kick produced by my weighted graphene speed pro, but the open pattern together with the slightly heavier tip of the donnay pro one 16x19 give the ball quite a bit more pop. Very nice for a lefty.

volleys - So much more feel. The stability of the racket changed the way I see volleys playing doubles... I used to punch the crap out of the ball to score at the net, now I just caress it in the right direction and everything happens for me. I was very pleasantly surprised by the volley quality of this frame.

As for groundstrokes, I think I still have to get used to the frame a little. I had more than enough feel for directional control and could hit some very sharp angles, but I also had some forehands sailing long, or with a good deal of topspin down into the net... Some things require some getting used to I guess.

So far a very nice playtest; doubles wise, I might be in love

I haven't yet done any customization;
racket is strung with solinco tour bite 1.20 at 55 lbs in the mains and 53 in the cross.
weighing in at 340g with dampener and overgrip

and looking bad ***

Oh yea, I can also add that I don't care much for the grip shape, I liked my head shape much better tbh.

Gonna figure out how to change that... anyone know if the pallets are interchangable?

Have you removed your grip and seen the pallets yet? They are made of a cool looking braided material and marked patent pending. I think one reason these sticks feel so solid is the pallet, changing it to a foam may ruin that special feel.

I have now removed the grips and replaced them, thickening the "knob" which was too small for my liking... not that I like big knobs... well you get the gesture.

I noticed the cool braided material, wonder what it is, don't dare to take it off. The grip does feel a little better now, especially since I increased the thickness at the end, and decreased the thickness of the rest of the grip by installing a babolat skin feel grip.

we'll see how it hits on friday :)

Strung my 16*19 P1 with alu rough main/gosen og sheep cross @57 and took it directly to the court. Damn it, it felt like a board, less spin, less power, less feel, smaller sweetspot. All compared to the cheep syn gut it came with. Any idea about how to lower the tension in a short time?

About to take the leap on a new Donnay Pro One (18 x 20) and wanted to know if anyone took advantage of the customization option that Donnay offers?

The biggest customization I have made is a leather grip so I am pretty new to this (I almost feel that I am missing out if I don't customize it in some way lol).

Did you get your raquet customized or customize it yourself? If so to what Weight/Balance & why (effect).

Love the look of the new 2014's in silver (liked the black too).

Lastly, any recomendation on one of the Donnay string options? I might as well get a set as its the same price as my stringer charges me ;-)

P.S. They are selling the weight customization kit on the 18 x 20 page (below), I thought it didnt fit the Pro One's?

57 is darn high for ALU. Once upon a time I needed to loosen strings. I put a towel on the floor then laid my racquet over it. Then I stepped on the stings gently. Worked pretty well.

Yesterday... tennis practice

In a rally with one of the better players of my club. Good rally. I have initiative. Give him a good short cross court lefty ball... he runs... barely gets it back with a weak lob-like backhand. Open court. High ball... I do my character move... Get down on my knees, and pummel an overhead into the open corner. 200 kph+ blistering winner... sweaty hands... everyone is watching, racket slips... hits the floor with a sickening crunch. Full Safin-style crack right through the upper hoop.

I go to bed crying in the evening.

Bought two new ones of the fleabay

Sundevil1 has kindly provided me with two replacements for the Donnay pro one I destroyed. (I'll provide some photos soon, so everyone can see the "xenecore")

They are now travelling thousands of miles to my home, I hope they enjoy the ride, and I hope I don't kill them like I did with their older brother...

Has anyone had problems with the grommets being too short and cutting into the frame? It seems like the grommets are very short (compared to all of my other rackets). Click the image 3 times to get a closer look of one of the "short" grommets, maybe just not pushed through but they all seem pretty small).

Picture Link: http://postimg.org/image/ni0wj8gg9/ec9791d2/

These were ordered directly from Donnay & I am worried that the strings are going to cut into the frames.

I will post up some pictures soon but wanted to throw this out there as it seems to be happening in different spots on both new sticks (the grommets barely make it through some of the holes leaving the string to press directly against the frame).

I believe this will saw into the frame after some hitting.

Is there any replacement grommets or anything else I can do to beef up the grommets that are in there now?

Thanks for any help/input.

Cheers TG

I haven't had that issue with my Pro Ones I recently received from Donnay. I did have to heat up the bumper guard quite a bit to get it to fit into the grommet holes properly before I strung the racquet. You may want to get some tubing to protect the grommet holes from the strings. TW sells it.

Some teflon tube is not going to fit, the grommets are quite tight.
It's okay though, I've restrung my pro ones around 30 times now, and they don't show any wear or tear yet.

Hi Guys, thanks for responding & the tips. I've now got two P1's and having problems with both. Took one in to a tennis shop & mentioned to the manager that the grommets need to be pushed through only to find they were not inserted in the same spot... Again.... Argh!

Here is what happens if you don't do anything about it (picture link below). It becomes a poly saw into the frame, beware. I'll try some thin tubing next time if I can find it. Love the frame... Not the grommets ;-(

Zoom in closely to see the frame tears bottom left & right. I hope they fix the grommets soon. This is on the Donnay Pro One 18 x 20 (2014) btw.

Yeah, I see now how bad the issue is. Have you contacted Donnay and explained/shown them the pics?

Yes, I sent in pictures as well as a video explaining the problem to one of the managers. They did send out another racket right away but it still had the grommet barely showing in the same two sections. I really hope they beef them up and make some changes soon.

Yes, so that their techs could take a look at it. They did ship me a new racket the very next day after I sent the pictures. Customer service was very good. Just hoping they listen & do something with the grommets.
I love my 18x20 Donnay Pro Ones.

BUMP.

I have now fully transitioned from my Wilson Pro Staff 90 racquets (BLX 90 being my favorite iteration) to the Donnay Pro One 97 16x19.

Originally I tried getting into the Pro Staff BLX 95 with added lead weight, and it went decently well, but never turned out to be much of an improvement over the Pro Staff 90 in terms of defense-to-offense shots, easier power, and forgiveness...

So I happened across this thread somehow and got curious about the Pro One 97. I bought one from the classifieds and started playing with it occasionally. Well I am now loving this racquet and have never played better tennis than with this stick.

My modifications: added lead tape to 12 o'clock on the inside hoop, added a bunch more lead tape to the handle, as well as adding the 10gram butt-cap weight with more lead on that. I also just use 3 over-grips on top of each other. They now weigh 12.3 grams and are more headlight than stock.

The result can be seen below:

These are on sale snd I am really intrigued by the specs on both string patterns. I was wondering if anyone is using the 16/19 or the 18/20 can compare either to PB 10 MID, Organix Mid or IG Rafical Pro. Much appreciated.

Ive been demoing the Xenocore Pro One 97. It is basically what the Radical should have been. HEAD screwed the pooch.

The finish is dark chrome at the bottom then fades to matte black up top. It is dope. Fairly open 16*19 which has plenty of control for me. ~62 RA.

I have discussed this many times with the owner of Donnay, they sent me a test model with longer grommets and it was perfect, but then the new frames came out and it was the same short grommets as before! I felt like screaming because the frames are great but without the grommet fix I just don't want to mess with it.

How does that one play? These are foam filled and my Pro 1's are very arm friendly and powerful. The Angell fan-boy thread has me tempted to try a TC 97 to compare it to the Pro 1. It's tough for me to spend over $200 on an Angell without a demo. I have a demo of the same Donnay you have on the way. Xenecore sent me an email with a tracking number 4 days ago but still it doesn't show its actually been shipped.

Btw, didn't know tennis was allowed on the poop deck!

I'm about to acquire a Donnay X-Dual Pro 97 16X19. Can anyone tell me what the specs are or where to find the specs? Anyone still play with this one? I did some googling and read the first few pages of this thread, but I'm having trouble understanding the Donnay naming or advertising. I couldn't find much. Can Donnay experts help me out?

I thought the X Dual Pro 97's were all 18x20?? A rare find indeed if it's 16x19 and could it be a pro stock?? There were many pro stock Donnays floating around at one point.

Feeling crazy, ordered Pro one 97 16x19 trial offer. Seeing if it can take on my mighty TFight LTD's, TT95, and Angell 100 (I do admit, none of them are the same headsize...but they should all be the same weight/balance) I blame @TinTin 1 's avatar dog. It spoke to me, and then I felt the urge to place an order.

Some advice....email them immediately and ask for a return shipping label. It took me over a month of emailing them until I got them to send me one.

After some two hours of hitting with my new 97 GT I noticed some rattle coming out of the handle. I guess some weights came loose under the palettes. Not a big deal, but still annoying.
Anyone else having this issue?
