Penn Championship regular duty. Best bang-for-the-buck.

Penn ATP regular duty. Lightweight for injured players, kids, old folks, and players with bad elbows.

Usually I'll just go for Wilson Championship, but Dunlop Championship or Penn Championship work fine. Gotta go with extra duty felt though. I hardly ever play on clay, so for hard courts it's extra duty felt.

the Robin Soderling ball is quite ok.. atleast for keeping the bounce for a lomg time, but the felt will thin out too quickly, still a good ball.

why does Wilson US open die quicker than it used to ? it used to last 2 sets. now after 1 set, it is like an old ball. but for 1 set, it is the best ball in the market today.

It might be the most comfy ball right out of the can, but durability is really substandard.

Wilson USO's are a mess after one full session while Head ATP's lasts me 4-5 times x 1,5 hrs on plexipave, 8 balls. And they are still nice and easy on the arm.

It seems to me that the latest edition of Slazengers (Wimbledon) are a tad worse (less bouncy) than last year's model, so I'd go with Dunlop clay fort atm, even on hard courts.

US Open if cost is not a factor. I'm currently using Penn ATP and I like them quite a bit but will need to go through at least several more cans to get an overall feel. I would like to try out the Penn Marathon balls but they haven't been available at TW for a while (or they aren't when I've been looking).

I posted in 2016. Since then, the Penn ATP was discontinued and I went back to using US Opens and have for several years.

My last case of US Open balls don't seem to last as long nor retain playability as well as previous cases. With their retail price now at $110, that's a tough choice to make.

I continue to be really impressed with the Dunlop Championship balls. They used to be $70 a case - I think they're now $75 - but they last, feel soft, and have a good, consistent bounce.

Are you using Regular Duty or XD? My last case of Regular Duty was a bit softer though that may be due to using them during the winter. I'm using XD balls these days and they go the distance. The USO is $99.90 at TW and I think that shipping is additional.

I've used both and prefer regular duty, but on our faster set of indoor courts the ball really just bounces through faster than I'd like. It never bothered me before until this last year when I played for two weeks down in the Palm Springs area and got to see what kind of hard courts 90% of age group players compete on. Since then, I've tried to play more on the slower set of our indoor courts (but still faster than in Palm Springs) and now am not used to the fast courts.

I think the regular duty balls just wear down but don't fuzz up so they get slightly faster with play. The XD seem to fluff up a bit so they get a bit slower with play, but the amount of fluff seems to vary some from can to can, and from case to case. That's mostly why I prefer the regular duty.

The USO balls are now $109.99 on Wilson's website. I'd imagine that TW will increase their prices as they get new shipments in.

I ordered in January I think and got them this month. Right now they are shipping this month so it looks like they have them in stock. I have enough to last me the rest of 2022 though I will order another case in the fall so that I have a buffer in case supply chains get clogged again. I am not averse to trying something else, as long as I'm sure that I won't mind playing with a different ball for a while. I have not used Dunlops since the 1990s I think. I have not seen them in stores locally since back then. Penn and Wilson are the most common in the stores here.

The Dunlops had been available for a few years at Walmart for $2.17 a can. When I couldn't find them there any more, I bought my latest case from Tennis Warehouse for $69.95 at that time. I also tried the Babolat Gold, which didn't last as long.

The only cheaper balls at Tennis Warehouse now are the Penn Championship, which haven't been a good ball in my experience. So when I run out, I'll probably order the Dunlops again. I think I have about a full case of USO and a few cans left of the Dunlop Championships.

I’ve been playing the Wilson Championship HD when I provide practice balls, and Wilson USO XD for match play. I bought the championship back in February bc they had them in stock, and the USO this month bc they were in stock. I regret not getting two cases of USO before they went from 99 to 109

There was a time about a year ago I think, where if you bought two cases of USO balls from the Wilson sit, you got an additional 20% off. I bought two then, and kept thinking I should buy more. Shoulda, coulda.......

That would have been sweet. I also ordered triniti balls for my machine and they never shipped. Nothing saying case two would have shown up for me

I will say one thing about the USOs - everyone that I play with are generally delighted when I bring out a can. One of my regulars also brings USOs but most of the others bring Penn or Wilson Championships. I have not seen Dunlops at my local WalMart for a long time. The individual stores vary quite a bit in what they carry. I guess I will reassess when I next order. I'm not inclined to order two cases at a time though as it's just a storage headache to keep around up to three cases.

I can’t believe more don’t use the Dunlop ATP ball, to me it is by far the best ball followed by the Wilson US Open. After that most balls are junk especially Penn. The Dunlop championship are ok for a cheaper ball but the cheap Penn and Wilson balls are terrible. Also I never use regular duty ball unless on clay, regular duty are for clay and women. They don’t fuzz up and look like a cue ball after playing, tennis balls are supposed to fuzz up some.

We played with the Penn Tour ball on hardcourt today. Good bounce, nap was pretty good though it did wear somewhat. Definitely a premium ball but we would have been better off with an XD version. One thing that I didn't like is that the rubber seams weren't trimmed flush to the ball. There were two pieces sticking out. I don't know if it is a real issue or not - it just bugs me. My partner brought the balls as I always bring US Opens.

We went to a high-school today and hit for ten minutes and then the girls' coach came over and told us that they had a meet. He had two shopping carts worth of new balls. I heard him opening up new cans and there were USOPEN case boxes next to a shed. So we drove to the other high-school in the city and ... the girls team at that high-school was practicing. I asked the coach if they were going to use all of the courts (6/10 were in use) and he said yes. So we went to the next town over and used the park courts. I was rather amazed at the number of new tennis balls that high-school teams use for a meet or practice.

This is me as well. The Dunlop atp are fantastic. Fluff up a little so are slower, but keep their bounce, are comfortable, and never have a bad can.
USO are great too and faster, but best bang for buck is absolutely Dunlop ATP to me

I wonder how long they use the balls before opening new cans again.

It's possible that we just caught them on the day when they open new cases of balls and that they use them for a week.

I was a bit surprised at the number of players that they had. Their team sizes had been smaller a couple of years ago. This bodes well for tennis in the future in our area.

I went shopping to look for the Dunlop ATP and it looks like they have Championship, Premium, and no name variants. One of the annoying things about tennis balls is that you can get one can for $10 or a case for a good price. So it makes it a bit harder to try them out unless you're willing to risk trying a case.

Thinking of buying a Dunlop case. What are the differences between ATP, Grand Prix, and ATP Championship? All XD version
