Is anyone liking the AI or DR 100's over the 98's because of power, sweet spot or both (or other reasons)???
I just haven't tried any of the 100's but I've been playing with the xi/dr 98's for a while am I missing out on anything???
At some point I will either go to the vcore duel G 97 or take a run at the 100 sq inch DR.. I know the duel is another animal I have the older version and use it mainly for practicing with or for fun but I mainly play with the xi/dr 98 for all matches.

I liked the dr 98 but I like duel G 97 330 even more. 97 is a very solid player's stick. Dr100 on the other hand, feels like a tweener and is too stiff for my liking...
I have a friend who likes dr100 a lot, his previous frame is a apd+ though...
Anyway, it really depends on what type of racquet you prefer.

Appreciate the insight. I mainly gravitated to 98ish but it's not exclusive. I just have to try a DR100. I have a pure strike 98 and 100, the 100 imho is horrible compared to the 98 in stock form way too light.. I know the DR 100 is not that far off but a little lighter.
Although the Duel G 97 is intriguing I've heard a few times from people that it's a pretty sweet racquet and upgrade from the former version which sounds more up my alley.
What strings or setup do you have in your Duel G? I've only used full poly in the Vcore single G, lol... the balls is definitely heavy for the opponent, some days if my arm isn't 'fresh' it's not easy wielding that thing for very long.

I have played the Ai 100 for two years, good racquet, but wanted more feel, touch, and low powered. Demoed both Duel G's. the 330 was and awesome stick, but after an hour of play it got a little heavy for me. The 310 was better but needed to be weighted up a bit. Ordered 2 310's customized to my specs by TW. They did an awesome job. I'm a happy camper!

Yeah you should definitely give it a try as long as you can demo.
As for me, I use tour bite 50/47lbs. The stick is hefty enough to mute the harsh feeling from full poly.
As long as you can wield it you'll be fine. But maybe better option is to get the 310g version and customize especially if you want a leather grip.
I've heard some pro players who use the duel G 97 skip the very top cross and make it a 16x19. Definitely helps reduce string bed stiffness but I haven't tried for myself yet.

what is the best place to source a replacement of their standard overgrip? which is quite thin

Assuming you mean replacement grip rather than overgrip, then anywhere that sells the Hi Soft Grap in black.

http://www.yonex.com/products/tennis/grip-tape/ac420ex-hi-soft-grap/

The black ones, once trimmed down are exactly the same weight as the stock grip ~12g (based on a sample of over 10) and the same approximate thickness. The white ones are 2-3g heavier for some reason (though useful if you want to add weight to the handle). Not sure about the other colors. White Abroz grips are also similar to the white Hi Soft Grap.

I use these, they are quite cheap, but, what they allow you to do is stretch them so that the grip size is just a bit smaller than normal Yonex grip size. I find Yonex grips/handles to be a tad large for me ordinarily.

Yeah, the bare Yonex handle size is bigger than those from the other manufacturers. They use thinner stock grips to maintain the same overall grip size. It's a pain in the ass as you can't use mainstream grips without changing the weight or overall grip size slightly.

Wilson Feather Thin is another alternative if you're looking for something slightly thinner and lighter than the stock grip.

Yonex are high quality racquets actually engineered and manufactured in Japan -- not "engineered" in, say, France and then outsourced to China. Good consistency. I've played the Vcore Si and now the SV. Great, firmer rackets. Good spin. Also the EZone DR 98 is one of the best out there, though different in terms of feel. Much more flex and plush feeling, but also great power. Gotta demo a few. I'd start with the Ezone and if it's too soft feeling, go VCore. I don't notice much difference with the Isometric head shape, tho it does feel very maneuverable. When I go back and hit a Babolat the head feels like a big round paddle in my hand.

Cool tip, I hadn't heard of that but it makes sense... I like the Solinco offering I think hyper G is my next purchase probably and some more Revolution which probably is not as good but I'm loving those lower powered strings in lower/medium powered racquets strung in around 50lbs.

Yeah, especially something like the Babs PAT but I do like that racquet but it looks and feels like a big paddle, I still gravitate to the xi/dr 98 with future hopes of demo'ing the Duel G 330 soon. Ezone line is great. Vcore G duel I like but I need to try the duel G for sure.. I probably will demo both the RF A and the Duel G together... I'm sure I'll like the Yonex usually they are more friendly just outside the sweet spot especially on serves than Babs or Wilson but we'll see.. I liked the RF A when I tried it but I only hit with it for like 30 minutes.

I wish Yonex went back to the thin beam extended length frames!

I just returned from S.Korea and had the chance to drop into a local tennis store. While their prices were comparable to the US so I didn't get a new stick, loved some of the old school frames they had. I managed to get one at an amazing deal and I settled on the MP tour -5 , just purely for fun. My regular stick is the Volkl V sense 8 315, recently swicthed over from the Bab APDC due to elbow issues. I am a versatile player who has a OHBH and play at 4.0 singles and 4.5 dubs in CA

What I could find on the boards about it was back in 1995. It weight exactly 310 at the shop, has 27.5 ' , 20mm beam and 98' head with 16x20 pattern

Strung it up at mid range with a multi and within a few mins of hitting and play a few games it was absolutely amazing. I've demoed and hit with just about all the top new frames out there from every maker. Something missing from the line up is an extended length thin beam frame that is extremely maneuverable and less than 12 oz strung. The only other racket I have tried that was close from the Prince original graphite but I found that to be too underpowered and flexible. I can't measure the flex here but I suspect it is low 60s since it is not like a noodle. The extended length was barely noticeable on my OHBH which is rare as well as volleys and the feel is absolutely amazingly plush. I suspect it is due to the thin beam. The extended length really helped me on serve as well. The only reason I would not use it regularly is due to the small sweet spot. I started killing it in the first set and as time wore on I suffered. Even with a multi anything slightly outside the sweet spot goes completely dead and goes straight into the bottom on the net, not even close. I would love to them revive the extended version in the new material and this issue will likely be solved

Truer words have not been spoken.
I purchased on a whim the Babolat PAT. Did not demo it as I can't from where I live. I have been using the Ai 100 and 98 for a few years now and wow. The difference in feel and stiffness was jarring. I could not stand it.
I have since sold it and have gone back to my AI 98. Great frame. Looking forward to the 2017 update.

I don't want to start a new thread, so I will ask here. My last question was related to this situation: The other day I broke the strings of my Ti Radical MP and I had to pick up my Tour G 310. The change was noticeable, I could generate much more HRS, especially in my forehand, and the result was a quicker, spinny?, better ball. This is obviously because of the lower weight compared to the modified Rad. But, if there is something that I don't like about the Tour G is that it lacks stability and I also feel the head a little big, to wide at 3&9.
So, will the 95 D suit between these two? I mean, 10 grams heavier but maneuver like the Tour G (because of the balance and SW), more stable due to the added weight (obviously) and the narrower head. Plus, it's cheaper than the current models.
Am I right? Or should I go for the Duel G and add some lead and be used to the head?
P.S.: My Rad has lead at 12, 3&9 and in the handle and it has a leather grip. I can't remember the balance but I think I can measure it if it's important to know.
I like how leather grip feels, so I would put one in the 95 D.
Oh, and I need to buy a new racquet because I need 2 at least.
Thanks!

Well not exactly thin but 22mm isn't that bad...
http://www.yonexusa.com/sports/tennis/products/tennis/racquets/vcore-sv-series/vcore-sv-98-1/

There are 3 other extended models coming, but they have much thicker beams.

Yes it looks interesting but the SV line has not been known for comfort as well and an extended frame in this line might just a killer for my elbow on the the OHBH. Similar to my experience with the Bab APD + , phenomenal stick but was killing my arm

Over the past almost 16 years, I have tried Wilson, Head, Prince, and Babolat racquets. I always have wondered what's special about Yonex frames? I always wanted to try one and maybe consider a switch. Thoughts?
Larger sweetspot, feel more solid at lighter weight, excellent paint quality(wun really chip unless i dunno what u did to the racket)
One of the best Quality control racket brand(near to the weight stated).
Tried a Yonex racket and went for the switch, its worth it =D
If weight is a issue do some customisation to it and u get a super solid racket

Wonder if there is much of a real SW variance or that's just what the models measured that TW has so far.
Brittany wrote that there is no presale and the racquets are to be available in a week or two which leads me to believe these will be the final specs. For me the DR98+ is the winner of the bunch - the softest, decent sw with just enough HL balance...

Yep same. I will be grabbing one. The Blue P/J is awesome too. Just held one (regular length) in Miami.

I bought two matched and weighted DR100s. Love em! The only drawback is that I lost a little maneuverability compared to my previous stick black n gold BLX Blade 98. There are too many pros with my setup. Yes, it is a little stiffer, but that is to be expected. i liked the feel of the DR98, but the 100 won everywhere else.

I saw that. Very good sign, as Chris has good taste in frames. Of course I have 2 angells and 2 Yonexes in my bag. I don't really need another racquet, but I have been really itching to commit to an XL frame for at least 90 days just to see how it goes, and the DR98 seems like a no brainer there.

I always bail on the XLs a little too soon, and the benefits are really good for me as a player under 6 feet who has a 2 hander.

I had thought that SV98+ will probably be the most maneuverable of all Yonex pluses considering how fast feeling the standard length version is, but from TW page description looks like DR98+ is the one. I would love to see comparisons between APD+ and DR98+. Loved APD+ for what little time I had, but my elbow said no mas!

100 more power/bigger sweet spot?? yeah I get the 98's typically are more precise, but I play doubles I don't need to hit lines I just put it where they aren't (try to at least :)).

Yup and yup! It's perfect for dubs!!!
only reason I ask, is I fell victim to a good 'deal' from TW and got the Pure Strike 100 with some Propulse 2 (I think that's the edition) for a cheap price and I had already been eyeing the 100 for dubs because I like the 98 so much even knowing the 100 was out of my specs (too light) I thought I'd give it a try I used so much lead in the handle and hoop to get it to usable it ridiculous although it's not a bad frame the stability still isn't the best with that 100 sq inch hoop to me.. so I've been nervous but curious on the ai100 and the DR100.,, not that they are the same manufacture or frame at all just those thin beams @ 100. I should try the DR100 I like the xi98 which is stiffer I believe (at least it feels that way) compared to the DR98.. DR 100 if somewhat tween-ish and solid I'd probably like it a lot. Thanks for the input!

You will like Yonex, I switched years ago and haven't looked back. They make a frame for every style of play.
