It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to be honest. People say they need guns to fend off a rogue government or military, but if that happens it won't be stopped by a few citizens with firearms they bought from the shop.

I support a right to own guns in principle, but you should at the very least have a license and be made to undergo mental health checks. Most mass shooters are mentally ill and if these checks were performed they would not have access to firearms. In Australia you can own guns if you are a member of a club and have a license and checks. And we have next to no mass shootings.

If the US army comes for me I will be surrendering !!!!
I am not a super hero lol

Reading about much tension between Australia and China over the South China Sea
I don't know why everyone gets their knickers in a twist over China. They make stuff for the West and we give them money in return.
If they tried to harm us, we'd harm them much more in return. Everyone knows all of this and so nothing will happen. No problem.

China’s everyone’s problem. The sheer population... and they’re getting their act together these days.

Saw 89 mph. Do they get much higher? There’s an MLB pitcher who slings ‘em in at 105 occasionally. Testy exchanges in that clip. Do fights ever break out? Have you all heard of Randy Johnson? Like an Ivo Karlovic. On a baseball mound. Fear.

Some players get up into the 1990's, although the modern pitches are pretty slow. The West Indies used to play four 90MPH bowlers in the 1980's-they were rarely defeated & are one of the best sides ever. Modern era Brett Lee & Shoaib Akhtar. Spats, but not fights-closest was probably 1981 with Lillee vs the always feisty Miandad.

And they invest a lot of that money in the West so if they bring America down a lot of their wealth goes down the drain as well.

But don't think they would not do it as in certain circumstances politics trumps economics.

I ultimately agree, as usual :D

We shall see.

To me cricket is as meaningless and boring as baseball.American football is horrid and boring, as well as ice hockey.
Curling is really strange.
Ice hockey boring? Having attended many a NHL game, including the Stanley Cup clinching game for the New York Islanders' first championship, we will have to agree to disagree. When ice hockey is played at that level, it is the most exciting and beautiful team sports man has ever invented.

Seeing it live is key to appreciating its uniqueness...speed, power, grace and outrageously crazy courage are on display just about every game.

Only hockey match I have ever seen is Sweden beating Norway 10-1 or something ages ago.
Never liked that sport, too rough for me.
Its no consensus in whats a good sport, and I think its great its so many to choose from from, everyone can find a sport to love :)

Soccer is a kids sport.

Every other sport is pretty good...

...except rugby, tough as but run in line, get tackled, put it on the ground do it again, run over a line put it on the ground get a few points...bit boring and no real skill involved.

horse racing is the most overrated sport. Because it isn't a sport, it's a gambling industry. If gambling was banned there would be no interest in horse racing.

Aside from that i'd say baseball. Its full of roidheads and its slower than test cricket. As well as what the OP says. The fact no one outside of america follows it suggests its so popular in the states because its rooted in their culture, Not because its a good spectacle. You could call it glorified rounders.

Steroids are a steadily vanishing component to the sport because they've put some teeth into the penalties for getting caught.

Also, it's not just an American sport anymore. There are quite a few top international stars from Japan, Australian and Latin American countries and even a few Europeans.

Hitting a baseball is indeed one of the toughest hand/eye coordination skills in any sport. You're a HOF talent if you can succeed 3 times out of 10 over your career.

That's good to hear, i know there have been players smashing home run records while everyone knows they're on drugs.

How many players from those non American countries? Could they even put a team together that could beat an American team?

I would also list American football because of all the players who end up with screwed up heads from all the hits. This is appauling, Rugby is suffering from that to a lesser event. Plus they have to wear body armour, there's something wrong there.

Ah, okay. I don't watch baseball with the regularity that I used to but there have been some memorable fisticuffs. Not a lot happened in the one I'll share here, but it was somewhat hilarious. Pitcher was 46 years of age at the time. Guy charging the mound was 26. Instantaneous headlock and repeated fist to noggin of the youngster.

Ah, I forgot rugby. Thats incredible boring as well. And not much of a sport, just like baseball, cricket, am football. But I like lots of winter sports that my country is really good at. Sports that are probably really boring for other people.
In general I prefer single sports. Except world cup football and womens handball.
Just watched semifinal Sweden-Netherland. (congrats w bronze @Red Rick ) Soon gonna watch world championship final Norway-France. Only womens sport I really like to watch is womens handball and skiing. Im not that found of womens tennis

When I lived in London I worked for a while in Richmond. Over my office there were pro rugby players living. And sometimes I had to deal with them because of mails and billings. Cant really say Im very impressed with their way of living outside the sports and not really that professional.

Formula 1. The talent pool is as deep as the Saharan desert, equipment provided by insanely rich sponsors determines more than half the success, it's atrocious as a spectator sport. Just **** that ****

Most fighting sports with weird point system. I mean why. Seriously, nothing was more confusing than watching taekwondo at the Olympics. It's a fight sport damnit, just knock each other out already. I'm all for abolishing most fight sports and let MMA be the standard.

Darts. People think it's a sport. That's pure, undiluted overratedness

Football, it's so big you don't really have to be that exceptional to become a pro. Most players are dumber than a brick with Down's Syndrome

Sprinting disciplin in athletics, as well the throwing disciplins. Most of it is just roiding the **** up.

Isn't chess considered a sport as well?
Here they are starting up showing chess in the sports channels using sports commentators.
Some sports should rather be called a game, not sports. Like curling, dart etc

Some people consider chess a sport. I don't. But it's definitely skill game, and deserves recognition as such.

That said, I know people who are promoting e-sports as real sports, and I can't help but cringe when I hear about it.

Chess shouldn't be classified as a sport IMO, on the basis it requires no physical skills to play, only mental skills. I used to play a little myself!

Rugbys generally the worst sport for that :p Our cricket team also have a drinking culture, one thing that irritates me is professionals who drink too much. I can't relate to that, I don't want drink hampering my gains and i'm just a normal guy who works out. I always admire professionals who are properly professional towards their craft.

Yup, Formula one is overrated. I don't think that's a sport, i think it's a technological exhibition of who can produce the fastest car, cos the fastest car always wins regardless of who drives.

Plus the big teams have so much money little teams can't do anything, in 2010 three new teams joined and all of them have since gone bust. The costs are unsustainable unless you're a Ferrari etc.

The steroid era pretty much ended 10 years ago with Barry Bonds' retirement. He is the season and career leader in home runs. Since then, MLB has worked hard to clean up the game with more sophisticated and frequent drug tests and a half-season suspension for first time offenders. That's a lot of cabbage to give up when the average MLB salary is north of $4million.

As far as international players, you could field several 25-man rosters that would compete in MLB with the top teams. Google "World Baseball Classic 2017" for just a limited list of players that competed for their countries this past winter. The sport is also contested in the Summer Olympics.

Anything where you get from point a to point b quicker than your opponents or you outscore your opponents in whatever the scoring method is can be considered a sport. What isn't a sport is where you jump into some water and some ball bag judges you 6.7... no that is bs, that is as much a sport as a beauty pageant is. surfing gymnastics diving etc those kind of events, if they only scoring system is some corrupt ball bag judging your style then that shouldn't be considered a sport.

Golf.

The amount of money you can make relative to the physical exertion you put in makes it completely "overrated".

Baseball is also a pretty strange game where the athletes can make more than NFL, NBA, or NHL guys despite the lack of physical contact.

Baseball? It's probably the toughest sport skillwise to master. Get out of here with that bs. Love to see the arm chair experts try to hit a baseball going at 50 mph much less 95.

A round stick hitting a round ball being thrown with a mixture of speeds and spins will always yield a high degree of difficulty. Add to this the fact that the pitcher releases the ball from a 10-inch high mound at an average release point about 55 feet from home plate.

Success 3 times out of 10 equals a trip to Cooperstown.

Everything !!!!!

Watching a sport for 4 hrs with no hands and the score is 1-1

If you watch a soccer game that lasts for 4 hours, then you're doing something wrong. A standard game is 90 minutes, with usually 10-15 minutes for the half-time break. So, 1 hour and 45 minutes in total.

In a knockout tournament, if the score is level after 90 minutes, then you do an extra 30 minutes of added time (usually after a short break). And if that doesn't settle things, then you have a shootout, which might last 10 minutes at most.

So with the half-time break, the short break after 90 minutes, and the time for a shootout, at the very most, the longest games you see should last maybe 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Sport is sport to me, but I hate how ESPN and others have categorized what are nothing more than competitions as "sports".

Curling is a baffling game with people chasing an appliance with broom sticks. I especially don’t understand the men who play it.

Baseball. You barely run and can have a resting heart rate while playing the game(outfield). Pitchers can be obese and still be an All-Star(David Wells). You make the right hit one out of three times and you can get to the hall of fame. .300 batting average.

Come on Man!

***correction one out of three is really .333 but you get the point
