I have a 2019 Speed Pro which I like a lot but I am intrigued by the heavier stock swingweight of the 2020 version. Has anyone played both and can compare? I am more curious about the feel. Is the 2020 version as "crisp" as the 2019 version?
I have played both. The 2020 is definitely more solid feeling of a racket than the 2019. If you can comfortably adjust to the added swing weight, it’s a quality racket. Volleying is a dream with both versions in my opinion. The 2019 has a lot more whip on ground strokes and racket head speed whereas the 2020 has much more plow through. I didn’t find the 2020 particularly forgiving, if I was swinging late then it was getting framed or I lost a bit of control with it. Serving was about equal with each racket, I didn’t know much of a difference. Both rackets had very nice touch on drop shots. I preferred the 2019 version because it matches my ground stokes better and overall style of play. I play a counter punching style, use a lot of my opponents pace against them and play pretty aggressively when on the defense.
Thank you for that comparison. I have lead on my 2019 version at 12, 3 and 9 that prob brings it to about 330 in swingweight. I was wondering how the increase in graphene affected the overall feel. I used to play a Gravity Pro and I didnt like the increased graphene usage there.I have played both. The 2020 is definitely more solid feeling of a racket than the 2019. For me, the 2020 Speed Pro, is an awesome counterpunching racquet! I can play closer to the baseline than other racquets I have used in the past and can easier defend thanks to that high swingweight and thicker beam. However, it’s quite low powered and for me, doesn’t provide much free points on serves, but on returns, it’s another story!
Did you customise your 2019 in any way?
Oh. How come the switch?I did not - if anything, I’d maybe put a little at 12 o clock to help add some pop on serves. I sold the 2019, making the ProStaff v13 97 my go-to racket.

I thought the 19 version was plush. Was I wrong?
I wanted to like the Gravity Pro but it felt too muted for my liking. I preferred the crispness of the Speed Pro over it.I used them both in the same hitting session a week or so ago and I'd heard the 2020 version felt nicer but I ended up preferring the 2019 one. The 2020 one did feel a little more solid, but I found it was just a bit less comfortabe to hit groundstrokes with than the 2019 one. There was minimal difference between the two though I found but enough of a difference for me to prefer one over the other I guess.
Neither felt as nice as the Gravity Pro to me personally.

the 2019 felt like the most plush frame I had ever touched.
and I'm playing with a clash 98!
there was just something about that 2019 speed pro! only hit with it for about 6 hours.
I loved my groundies with it, from the second I touched it.
didn't have much juice on my serve, with it, which was a downer.
I demod the 2020 version, obviously higher SW, but I did not have the same ability to swing out, as I did with the 2019... this is with a modern swing.
wasn't as maneuverable, which is a given.
@pico
I, too, tried the gravity line, and they are great sticks, but something was lacking. I could def swing out with them, so they are players racquets with zero power!
Completely agree with preferring the 2018/19 version to the 360+ update. To me, I hit with the new ProStaff and I felt like I could swing like I could with the older Speed Pro but have just a little more stability like I could with the update so I moved to that. The 360 Speed Pro though is an excellent racket.
Ditto
The PS97 is my backup to the clash 98. For when I want something a little more crisp, or playing with lower caliber player and I want leas power than the clash 98. I can swing out, and it’s stable!
Both my PS97 and Clash 98 (both) have an OG, no other mods. Both 11.7 and 31 1/4 balance!
cheers

Just for the record I still consider you our Speed Pro expert.
Hopefully you will give the all-black a test drive just to share your thoughts. I can say it is nice in the hand!
Like I mentioned in another thread... If you want more SW at the same weight, you could remove the original grip and add two over grips, then add about 1g of lead at 12. This is a very small change that will affect the balance and feel significantly.Played the Gravity Pro for a while and tried the Speed Pro 360... Gravity Pro won out for me. GPro as others said was easier for me to hit with power and spin in part due to the plow and ability to swing out and not worry about hitting the back fence. The low swing weight on the Speed 360 felt anemic to me especially on serve. Just had to redline the swing speed all the time to get power or close to the same spin I’m used to.
At least that was my thought until the 360+ Speed Pro. With the heavier swingweight it’s a lot closer to the Gravity Pro while still being a touch lighter in static weight. Frame feels softer to me than the 360 version, but still more crisp than the Gravity Pro while still being very comfortable. Took me a bit, but after about 6-8 hours of play time I finally started to see the extra power in the Speed Pro. I don’t find it quite as forgiving as the Gravity Pro, but I get more power with pretty much the same amount of spin. I’m hitting bigger serves and my second serve is definitely improved over the Gravity Pro for pace and spin combined.
Right now the Speed Pro 360+ is my go to frame and my Gravity Pros are just sitting in my bag. If you like a 330SW racquet I think the newest Speed Pro is a keeper.

Good points.I have both versions but still prefer the 2018 version - good power, feel, plush and fast to swing. I like the open 18x20 pattern as it gives control and still has alot of spin potential. For me the change in swingweight of the new version was just too much for me and my shoulder. I liked the plowthrough (awesome backhand slice) but I found if I was a bit late that I was slapping at the ball. I think the new version has a bit more feel as well but it's slight. They play pretty similarly and if you can handle the swingweight, I'd say go for the new version. I had both strung at 47 lbs with Velocity 16.
Saw the new limited black Speed Pro in the shop today. Looks nice, but in my honest opinion didn’t really do that much for me. The current white looks better in person than in the pics. In the hand you see the matte and glossy white parts of the paint job and it’s a nice subtle design to me. They did the same on the black, but kind of wish they would if made it all glossy black. I prefer the 360 all black limited version as it was had the exposed graphite and gold lettering which seemed ‘cooler’ and more ‘limited’. I like the all black Speed 360+, but it’s not a ‘gotta have’ IMO. For a ‘limited’ version it just seemed a little boring. If I were needing more frames I might buy the black for something different, but I was a little underwhelmed. Guess I’m just used to the stormtrooper white.
Different strokes for different folks, but IMO the 2019 Black pj is far better looking than the white to me. It’s just too much white. It may sound vain, but that’s one if the reasons I never used the Project one seven Pure Strike.
I agree with you, the 2020 pj is too plain. The 2019 black was sharp.
normally I’m on the same page as you.
but, how can either of them be “too” anything compared to the other? They are a simple salt and pepper reverse.
I feel they both are meh and too glossy. Head needs to get a new crew to handle the PJ detail. The gravity and speed line are terrible. The prestige is bad too!
