    Pro's Pro Strings!?

i went with the thinner gauge for more liveliness and bite. for me, the 18x20 tends to feel boardy with 16g in the mid 50s. i usually get 17g (like a BO 1.24) and i hardly ever break it, so i cut it out at the 6-8hr mark. So far i'm at 4-5hr mark on this round of stringing and still feels ok...

    Pro's Pro Strings!?

bought a reel of the Eruption(1.18) from Big T Tennis (as always, best place to get PP in CA). The pic on the reel is round, as others have received. However, the strings are definitely shaped (i can feel it on my fingernails). it's not a real issue to me as long as the string is shaped. I...

Live by the Blade...Die by the Blade...

i haven't used a multi since 10+yrs, so can't really comment on multi. but the HG does give higher launch angle and nice clearance over the net, but then comes down and stays in with the extra spin. The only trouble is when i play doubles, i get poached more. So i just have to flatten my...

Live by the Blade...Die by the Blade...

ain't no 'hype'. Blade w/ Hyper-G is legit. strung it at 45#. the spin is crazy. i can hit out with good mechanics without fear of flying out. My buddies can attest. for me, this Blade 18x20 with hyper-g at low 40s is a true weapon. I'll drop to 42# on my next stringing.

i'll be my first Hyper G ("hype"). i'll have to up the #s a few. TB on my list. Otherwise PPBO is always my fallback.

Live by the Blade...Die by the Blade...

demoed my buddy's 2015 blade 18x20 strung with PP Blackout(5-sided) at 52/49 for 3 days. i was hitting heavier weighted shots more so than with my Bab APDs and PDs. it's just like what everyone says about control, just point and shoot. Snagged myself one sweet 2015 blade 18x20 strung with...

    Backhand Tips

here's a great vid from Top Tennis Traning. you're pretty much doing their suggested steps 1 and 2, but you're missing step 3. your body weight needs to transfer from the back leg to the front, and make sure you rotate that back leg to open up the hips.

Owners of Alpha Pioneer DC Plus

wow! hugh difference in build quality and function vs the x2. i did replace those puny washers with 1" wide ones. i strung 2 rackets already, but took me slightly longer(50min) than my usual 35-40min on the x2. but the stringbed is definitely more consistent w/ fixed clamps vs floating. i...

Owners of Alpha Pioneer DC Plus

yesterday, i took the plunge and bought the APDC+ from NewTechTennis. i will immediately replace the washers with much bigger once from home depot. (for you cyclists out there, i sold my 2004 campy eurus wheelset to buy this). this will replace my gamma x2 that i've had for 2yrs. sometime...

    Pro's Pro Strings!?

Blackout is $39. Strat8 is $49. (i cringed when i bought the Strat8, but had to try) they're very close, but this is just my perception: BO is 5-sided and has sharper edges, versus Strat8 with 8-side which is almost round. The spin is just better on BO. Plus BO has more of a crisper feel...

    Pro's Pro Strings!?

i've bought reels of Blackout, Blackforce, Strategem 8, Lethal 5+8, Spinox, and Ichiban. Blackout still tops them all.

Low, low tensions. 30lbs feels great. 20lbs pretty good, too

i use ELT if my elbow is hurting, usually after a used racket change from 3B@y. my usual tension is 54-57#. i recently got the 2014 Graphene Radical, but played around too much with weight(leather, lead, blu tac, tension), and oh did my inside elbow feel it! I have my own stringer, so i...

How to make a Radical Pro more stable with volleys (RF97 style!)

good read. after demoing my buddy's racket, picked up a slightly used GRP(coming soon). i did notice the flutter on volleys, so will do the lead at 3+9 and possible leather grip. i currently use the 2013 Speed Pro w/ 4g lead at 3+9 and just overgrip, total wt is 12.2oz 6pt HL. I will match...

    Hybrid Setup for College player

i've had 2 reels of the 5's, and 1 of the 8's. get the 5. the 8's is just a little too roundish, and lose the edges.

    WHY CAN'T I CREATE TOPSPIN?!?!?!?!?!?

This is one of the best vids for putting together all the ingredients that everyone is telling you. intosport has all the other basic tennis strokes, with really good instructions. for other topspin vids just YouTube "topspin forehand". you will get lots of other quality vids. my...

    Deiton Baughman

McDonald and Giron were also there in Sac and they both won their matches. good players, good attitudes, no foul mouths.

    Deiton Baughman

i was there for this match. everyone groaned when tiafoe shanked on one of his match points, even louder groans on his netted drop shot. ugh. he walked off that court pretty disappointed. Another experience gained(though neg). As for Tim, soon after the match(<10min), he got a bucket(box)...

Add Silicone in tha handle of the racquet

i use play dough. but it dries out in time, then rattles inside (very annoying). just insert a couple of cotton balls first, then put the play dough.

Wilson Steam 99 - Silicone in handle?

i've had mine for almost a year now. and have convinced 3 of my friends to get it too. since they are discontinued, they are so cheap that you can get a new from the '_ b -a y " for just above $100, or used from $50-75. So, no real loss. as for how it plays, it definitely doesn't feel like...

    Pro's Pro Strings!?

i've never tried the actual 4G, but i really like my spinox and so do 3-4 of my friends that i string for. good bite on the ball. on my racket, i go back and forth with normal tension~54-57# to ELT~35-40# depending on whatever PP strings i rotate. Right now i have spinox at 37# on my...

    Pro's Pro Strings!?

Strategem 8 a few months ago, tried a sample packet and liked it very much. then i got distracted by trying the econo gut (from cali) experiment. snapped on my stringer at 58#. tried it at 48# crossed with Lethal 8 at 52#. felt so mushy like 5day old bananas. last year i tried the indi...

    cheap nat gut?

GG yey, CG Meh.. tried GG last year when the prices were still good, and it played great on a gut/poly hybrid. i did use silicone spray a few hrs before each play. so lasted me a good 15-20hrs (and i'm a string breaker). did hybrid again on the second half set. then i tried cali gut...

    Pro's Pro Strings!?

ate up a reel of BO and L5. never used TB. just got reel of Spinox, and a single package of Strategem 8. My experience(in best order): spin: S8, SPNX, BO, L5 feel(crisp>muted): S8, BO, L5, SPNX stiffness: S8, SPNX, BO, L5 control: BO, SPNX, S8, L5 durability: SPNX, S8, L5, BO best(for me)...

Info about the Wilson steam 99

the lead will fix the instability on off centered shots. i placed 4 strips of 6" x 1/4" lead at 12 oclock, 2x 4" 1/4" at 3/9, and i countered with Playdough inside buttcap(i didn't want to commit to silicone yet). lots of heft, plow and stability. serves are like bombs!! i used to have...

Info about the Wilson steam 99

Pro's Pro strings from Big T. just google it. i usually hybrid a shaped poly for mains, and either smooth soft poly or a synthetic for the cross. My favorite is Blackout. if in full bed, tension at 52-54#. if hybrid with syn, try 52/56#

Info about the Wilson steam 99

if you have short quick strokes, then this racket is good. it's only 11.3oz strung. it's quick and whippy, like the APDs and such. but the 99 has more flex, despite the rating. it took me a while to get my timing, i was shanking. but once i did, then my groundies were pretty consistent...
