I voted 50% , but my reality is about 30%. Sometimes I'm a little out of position, my incoming ball is too low or too high, or I just want to change the pace.

A well placed parallel slice will encourage a high-cross court return right into my FH strike zone.

Hello friends,

I use a topspin and flat 1hbh and I had the will to convert to 2hbh for a long time. For the last 4-5 months, I have tried to get used to 2hbh even by using it during the matches if possible. Now I feel much closer to being able to play two-handed backhand than any other time in the past. However, my 1hbh is still better and I have a way to go for 2hbh.

I talked to a coach a few days ago; he said that hitting one handed backhands mainly as sliced shots may be proper for me. He said deep 1hbh slice shots -if hit well- may be very accurate and hard to return as they go close to surface; that this would be better for me as a man in his forties.

So, now I have difficulty in deciding whether I would go on trying to convert to 2hbh or develop deep sliced 1hbh as my essential backhand shot.

Your comments, experiences are very important for me. Thanks...

Is there a reason for the two to be mutually exclusive? I'm saying this mainly because if you watch players like Dolgopolov and Nadal, they both incorporate deep 1hbh slice with their 2hbh drive.

In my opinion, any student who plays with a 2hbh should develop a solid slice regardless, so that the player can have more variety in his game. Nothing changes up the point more than a great slice.

My aim is to have strong left wing as a right handed. Therefore, I want to have this facility by the most feasible way. Combination of deep 1hbh slice and 2hbh may be the ultimate, but developing the first one and converting to the other at the same time is too difficult.

Since I am a one-hander for years and many positive things have been said for slice backhand in this topic, adding slice to my 1hbh and developing the topspin and flat backhand shot may be the first and easier option for me, while converting to 2hbh may be the second.

Thanks a lot...

I wanted to give some information about my current situation. I played with a player in the club whom I could beat only once in all those passing years. Well, he won again and the result did not change; except one thing: I feel much closer to win. I lost, because I am still not good enough in backhand slice and not fit enough to catch short or wide balls.

By the other words, for the first time I felt that 1hbh slice is an important tool for a club player and helps to have consistent shots. For my backhand side, almost the only problem was that I made unforced errors of slice. I am pretty sure that my 1hbh will be much stronger in time as I practice.

Since my backhand was better during the match, I had the chance to test my fitness level especially in short balls of the opponent. It looks, having more consistent shots on backhand will demand having a better fitness level which I didn't feel the need of so much before. (My backhand was inconsistent enough to be the reason of loss against better players) The exercise bike in the attic must have waited for these days.

I am practising 1hbh slice on the wall. Although practising on court is the best, I think slicing against the wall is not awkward.

Thanks again to all friends for your contribution; your advice for practicing 1hbh slice will be appreciated...
