So I just joined the USTA and found a tournament coming up in september. I want to know if i am ready enough for this tourny. It's a L7 and I'm a 4.0-4.5 player. Will i be ok or am I setting myself up for a brutal defeat. Also im in the boys 16s.

Hey, just head in there without expecting to lose and you'll do just fine. Whether you win a match or not, because its your first time, It'll all be a good learning experience.

I'm not so familiar with the tournament tiers, so I'd just look around the USTA site and see if you can find how good the competition will be.

Even if you get beaten badly, you should still play more tournaments. you will learn mental game and eventually win some matches.

Dont focus on winning. Rather focus on gaining the experience and handling the pressure on the court, After your first tournament, your next should feel much more comfortable. Also, get to know other players there and try to get their phone #s and stuff so you can schedule times to hit with them or something. friends will definetly help your tennis experience.

alright cool. I'm actually really excited for it. Though also a bit nervous. But i love tennis and will definitly keep playing even if i get destroyed.

I'm 35 and did my first tourny last weekend. it was great fun! I lost but I know now that I want more tourny exp. I've already enrolled in the next two in the coming months. I know that i'll get here eventually but what I found to be the best part was being surrounded by so many people that love this game as much as I do! Plus, sticking around to watch the Mens open and some doubles matches was great too!

Good luck!

yeah the tournament is the first weekend in september. I really hope to meet some people that can become new hitting partners. Due to my high school team's level is on the low side this upcoming year.

At my first tournament I won two matches and lost because of a bad day. If you put your mind together you'll be fine.Go kick some butts!

it really is a nice one, and i lost my first tournament for many reasons, but the biggest one was going for low percentage shots.

edit: and it´s not passing the ball 10-15 times to the other side...prepare for a lot of pushing and 3 min points if it´s necessary

That's exactly how I felt when I played my first tournament, I got destroyed:sad: ...but that's not the point.

one of my friends who played tourneys in the Washington State/Seattle area said that they usually have loser's brackets, so youre guaranteed at least two matches if you go to the tournament. is that the way it works? If not, if you pay $30 and lose 1st round would that be like paying $30 for 1 match?

I've never played a tournament before, but I would definitely like to start. I live in the Orlando area. Do the tournaments usually just take place all day, so you go in the morning and play until you lose? I don't really know what type of questions to ask here because I have no knowledge of the subject. Could someone please fill me in on the details? I would appreciate it so much. Also how rankings and points fit into the equation.
Thanks so much.
